While turnarounds do take place with lightning speed at times, so does the tumble back down to mediocrity with overspending and lack of development. I think the Jets are building a team here in a more deliberate manner with long-term sustained winning in mind. Staying away from flashy overpaid FA's out of their prime, taking guys with high-character (less the Goodson fail) and not spending all the money at once which leads to shrinking windows of opportunity. Keep in mind that Brady is approaching 40 and the division future looks bright with how this team is constructed.
Carrot FrankenThing as I recall. One of the great 50's SciFi movies right down to the arrogant professor with the foreign accent and his beautiful blond daughter. Ok, not sure about the daughter on this one, I think the love interest was an air force operator stationed at the pole.
I agree with this new guy Chad9 that too many here seem to see last season's 8-8 as a floor in assessing prospects for this season. In particular the point differential stat from last season makes such an assumption problematic. And of course the Jets are facing some high powered passing attacks when their secondary is a huge question mark. I do project Pryor to be a big help there, but Milliner has to show much in taking over the #1 cb slot, with #2 still up in the air. Not to mention questions remaining about Smith, OG's, and who will start at #2 wideout. I do have optimism about Coples upgrading the pass rush, though, and expect the DL will be at least as good as last year, and probably better.
Then there's the offseason preparation that teams can plan for. Now that the Jets have shown they can't be run on, expect teams to gameplan and simply abandon the running game and pick not only on the secondary if it's not ready but on those ILB's who have proven they can't cover their own shadow. I have to believe Davis has the ability to cover and maybe last season his head was spinning a bit. I'll be watching that position closely. Harris is a lumbering liability there and I personally don't think his run-stuffing ability is needed with the front line play, but that's just me. I thought he should've been replaced. Hopefully Pryor can help here but to what extent? But you bring up other uncertain positions. Winters was abysmal at LG last year and we now see Aboushi getting 1st team reps there and chatter tha Colon will start there (as he should have last season). This lends more credence towards next year being a more confident team for playoff contention. To me, this is an extended rebuilding year with potential of doing more. But just potential. This isn't a proven winner yet. Still a ton of questions to be answered.
We'll have to see how the team shapes up. Geno could be terrible, or look somewhat decent, or something in between. If the Jets are able to fix the secondary with these moves they made, and keep the run defense strong, then I think that a strong run game can keep us in just about every game. I trust Rex to fix the secondary, and I feel good about the RBs. So for me, it just depends on the QB play we get; if Geno is okay, and if he's not, if Rex benches him quickly enough.
Yes..... We will make the playoffs..... I'll say we go 10-6 or 11-5. And those who think we can't compete with the Patriots, we should have beat them both games we played them last year..... And save all the they have Revis now shit..... It's not hard to throw the ball away from him . 1 good CB doesn't add much to a team.
they have one all time great corner and 1 vastly overrated corner. Browner will get torched opposite revis.
And assuming Decker is taken away by Revis, exactly who on the Jets is torching Browner? I think the key to beating the Patriots this year will be utilizing our Tight Ends in the middle of the field, using the screen game, and pounding the football down their throats.
we have weapons this year for the first time in many years. It may not be the WRs, it may be the TEs which we have 2 guys capable of catching passes, it may be the RBs, it may be Kerley in the slot. taking away Decker will not cripple our offense.
It won't cripple our offense, but once he is out of the picture, there is a tremendous drop off in talent in terms of available passing options. Kerley would be our next best bet.
Kerley is very good, he's just not a #1 option like he has been for us the past 2 years. Decker gets taken away we can still run it, we have capable TEs, kerley is a good slot guy, CJ catching passes out of the backfield. We have options for the first time since 2011 and this is our best group since 2010.
Just to put things in perspective, a year ago we were hoping that Clyde Gates would make the team, relying on Hill and hoping Holmes would get healthy. Now we got 12 guys battling for 6 spots with Gates likely on the outside looking in and even Hill potentially at risk.
It wouldn't surprise me if he didn't make the team... I think the 6 receivers will look like this at the end of the day... Decker, Kerley, Nelson, Saunders, Evans and Ford.
I think there is a better chance of him starting than being cut. I think we will keep 7 WRs this year at least at the beginning.
If we keep 7 then he is deff on the team... Should be interesting.. I am hoping he has an amazing preseason and grows into that #2 guy we think he can.. If not we always got Shaq waiting in the wings.
I like what I am hearing about the young guys, I am excited to see them play. I hope Hill can stay healthy and finally show us why we drafted him so high but who knows? I am more excited for this season than I have been since the lockout ended.
