I read this and it was narrated in my mind by the Cub from Shogun Assassin (not the fanfare of trumpets as in Star Wars like you meant it to be), which is one of the best intro monologues in the history of film. Good show, Barcs.
What was interesting about the point differential is how unlucky we were on fumbles. I just thought that was odd that were that "lucky" on differential but that "unlucky" on fumbles.
I hope they miss the playoffs. Curse this franchise for all of eternity, I hate all the people involved, every single one of them.
Fuck yeah, I love that Shogun Assassin intro. Reminds me of good ol' Liquid Swords, which is what inspired me to watch that movie in the first place. Great movie though.
I'm not sure why the Pats are seen as two losses but the Bills and Dolphins are seen as two wins. Rex knows how to play BillyBoy and his team. I think the Dolphins will be about the same as last year; maybe better QB play but their offensive line is still a mess. The Bills will play harder than the Pats, I believe. I just don't buy into CJ2YPC giving much of a boost - except maybe against the Bills who can't stop anybody from running on them. Maybe with the Pats getting Wilfork back will help them, but I just don't see them as much of a threat as the other two teams who you never know how they're going to play. Answer: The Thing was played by James Arness who went on to become Marshall Matt Dillon in "Gunsmoke".
Why does it have to be so cut and dried? It has to be, 'CAN they make the playoffs?' Why not, 'CAN the Jets lead the NFL in consuming half time Gatorade?' That would be so much easier to measure success by.
Seems like a bit of a stretch. So I guess you are a Sanchez fan, not a Jets fan, as your join date points to. No doubt he was treated wrong, but time to move on.
How could any fan NOT think we are making the playoffs at this point in the offseason? Sure I can see that the schedule is hard, we need improvement at QB, secondary, head coaching, etc.... but as a fan I believe all of those will be addressed until proven otherwise.
I think you mean Phillip Rivers. David Rivers was the backup QB in Atlanta for Michael Vick, and he hasn't been in the league for about 8 years.
You're right, I don't know why I was thinking of Eli Rivers. Anyway, my point was that I was hoping for a less QB-intensive schedule in the early going. Hell we don't face the Dolphins, a divisional rival until week #12? While this is waaay too early, just for kicks a pre-pre-season positive/pipedream spin on this season (hoping things somehow fall into place): Oakland: W 24-17 (1-0) @ Green Bay: L 28-10 (1-1) Chicago: W 28-27 (2-1) <--- +3 pts. at home (Cutler must get his ass kicked for this to work). Weather: partly 'sunshine' Detroit: W 27-24 (3-1) <---only because this is a home game (because I don't like our OL vs their DL/LB). Weather: partly 'sunshine' @ San Diego: L 30-14 (3-2) Denver: L 28-13 (3-3) <---2nd blah offensive game, defense wearing down b/c of TOP minutes, some fans & pot-stirring media trolls getting Vickish. @ New England: L 28-10 (3-4) Buffalo: W 27-20 (4-4) <---offense gets a temporary stay from the critics … for now. Kansas City: W 20-17-OT (5-4) <---defense comes up big. Pittsburgh: W 23-17 (6-4) <---Jets (and Smith) recall laying an egg last year and avoid the hangover from previous week's upset road win. BYE (6-4) @ Buffalo: L 27-13 (6-5) <---struggles coming off a bye week continue under Rex. Miami: 31-10 W (7-5) <---Jets save their best for MNF. @ Minnesota: W 24-20 (8-5) <---DL contains AP just enough for TGG to walk out with the W. @ Tennessee: L 20-13 (8-6) <---ugly, get caught looking ahead to N.E. New England: W 28-24 (9-6) @ Miami: W 24-21 (10-6) <---with Mia. already out and Jets looking 'wildcard', the normally 50/50 crowd is 65/35 Jets: +3 at "home"
From what I'm reading it looks like one is spit on for daring to claim the Jets won't make the playoffs. I think many of you are not honoring the opposing view with respect of opinion. And many of you are justifying a playoff berth on the premise that the team has improved and if they went 8-8 last season, they MUST finish with a better record this year. That's actually faulty logic as most (if not all) teams have a semblance of improvement from one year to the next. It's more about matchups than anything. This season, the Jets face 5 of the top 6 passing offenses from last year and they get them all early. This is an unfortunate matchup with a young secondary and a new FA slated to start as communication will be key facing the top QB's in the league so early and often. That's a murderer's row facing Rodgers, Cutler, Stafford, Rivers, Manning, Brady (all in succession) and then nemesis Roethlisberger running a no huddle all before their bye week. The Jets could conceivably dig themselves a hole before mid-season. I'm not holding my breath yet on a playoff berth until I see solid secondary play (and coverage from the ILB's that doesn't rank dead last in the NFL as last season) and some consistency in the passing game which will lead to a well-balanced offense. While these things are attainable, it hasn't happened yet. I promise that I'm just as optimistic as anyone here but I have my concerns and I'm just not ready to boast that we're a playoff team yet. We're getting close to being a perennial contender with the makeup of the team and maybe it all gels this season. As for now, I think they are one year away. Here's to hoping I'm wrong.
