We're definitely a bubble team. I have a feeling it'll come down to Week 17. I don't think Decker is the miracle player so many people make him out to be but he will help. Lots of rookie receivers and a rookie TE. Anything can happen.
This has been the longest playoff drought since I've been a fan. I say we break the streak this season and get back to the dance. Or so I hope.
I believe we will make the playoffs . The players always seem to put it in overdrive for Rex when he really needs em to, with his job possibly on the line again this year i think the group will make sure rex stays
To early to say right now. An unproven offense and secondary, several new rookies and free agents and a second-year QB. I do believe Rex is the right coach for the Jets. If enough of these questions are answered early, they are probably a bubble team. It would not be good for Rex to miss the playoffs the fourth straight year.
The beginning and end of it sits at the feet of Geno Smith and the revamped WR corps. End of story...period, done...finnito.... We have a playoff caliber defense. Including the secondary. Our secondary does not get burned half as bad as we did if that defense isn't on the field for 56% of the season. Period. We can thank the offense for that. We HAD the running game last year...we HAVE the same running game this year except we actually improved with the addition of a home run hitter like Johnson. If they can manage to only allow that man to have between 5-10 touches a game to keep him fresh then he will add a dimension that Darren Sproles WISHED he could add. No sir...if the QB position and the upgrades at WR pan out to offer up an AVERAGE offense we are in the drivers seat to 10 wins. Write it down.
Oh, on another note about the defense...and the supposed porous secondary...our offense placed our defense in situations that were 30th worse in the league...yds., average points behind...the list goes on. The only two teams worse than the Jets in this respect drafted number 1 and 2 respectively....not 18. THAT tells you how good our defense was in spite of the massive obstacles and holes our offense left them in. Average offense = at LEAST 10 wins with that defense. Of course this is all predicated on the defense showing up at least the same this year...no decline.
QB turns the ball over too much and the offensive line is weak and without depth. 8-8 at best this year.
junc the problem with ranking our d over the last 3 years is our offense killed us time after time putting rex's D back on the field seconds after hitting the bench for the oxygen masks. How demoralizing, exhausting, frustrating, and difficult is must be to make a huge stop only to be back on the field 1 play later. And between Nacho and Geno that happened A LOT. I can't wait to see how dominating our D can be when our offense can hold the ball 5 mins and even score after a huge stop.
Peyton goes down with an injury in week 4 and Brady gets old. Happens all the time to 35+ QB's. Vinny and the Jets in 1999. Aikman and the Cowboys in 1999. Same year and both teams looked like playoff teams for the year in question.
Our O killed us many times and the D killed us many times. we can use the O excuse but there were many times the D wasn't put in a bad spot and they still failed and just b/c a TO happens doesn't mean you have to give up TDs. Our D's have been good but not very good. I think last year was our best D of the last 3 years but they still got pushed around at times.
The same year they won their last division title - 2002. Although they've had a number of 5 game win streaks since then.
Point is, it is rare.. Every time this team gets comfortable and has a great game, they seem to lay an egg the next one..
The last time we won 6 in a row was 1998. 4 was our most in a row in 2002. we actually won 7 in a row if you count the Jax playoff game in the '98 season. In 2010 we almost won 6 in a row but dropped that close game to GB.
