We've had a playoff caliber defense in the 3 years we've missed the playoffs. If the offense steps up we'll make the playoffs.
I almost made mention of Champ. CMan is going down the Champ path. 7, 8 years ago CMan was not like this.
I call it.. "The Show Me Syndrome". Champ otoh, would not give the Jets any chance at all even for 8-8. I think PO's for this year is premature however, 2015 and beyond is an entirely different story. They should be playoff calibre on both sides of the ball by then. 7 or 8 years is a long time Cakes. Now? I believe what I see when it comes to the Jets. If they make the playoffs, great! I'd be pleasantly surprised. Do I expect them to make the playoffs in 2014? No.
I don't think CMan's comment was a downer. It was realistic. The Jets could be a much better team in 2014 than 2013 and still finish 8-8 or worse. I made the thread because I felt the Jets are a team on the borderline and I wanted to see other people's thoughts.
The team could finish 8-8 again no doubt about it, I think for that to happen, some injuries need to happen and Geno will need to show absolutely no progression. Even so, the Jets have insurance in Michael Vick. 2014 we will be a playoff team, 2015 we start making major noise as long as we continue the path we are on now. I think people are discounting the experience this team gained last year. I think Cman's comment was a downer because he believes we stand no chance to make the playoffs this season. I find that to be bullshit - It's his opinion and I can't discount him on that, but I'm not buying that.
Vaccinations will need to be prepared for the future Jet fans. Matter fact, I am going to say a bold prediction. The offense this season will be the best offense in the Rex Ryan era.
I think the Jets will go 10-6 and make the playoffs. Geno should be better now that he has better targets, and I'm sure he will approach things as a scrambling QB given that that worked for him last year, and given that the coaches will be game planning along those lines. The defense is young and strong- great line, great against the run- and the DB situation will be a lot better. Seems like we will have at least decent CB play, and Pryor should be good or even great. I see 10 wins as realistic, but it'll be interesting to see how things shake out.
A big danger is thinking the team is actually better than it is relative to the teams we play this season. It's not as if the rest of the league sat still and only the Jets improved. I don't see a PO caliber offense although I would like to think this year's version will be better than last year's. By the end of the season, we'll know just how far Geno has progressed and how much of MM's system was implemented and executed well. I'll just wait and see how things shake out and leave the wishful thinking for other folks. Still putting my money on 2015 and beyond. I'm not saying 2014 isn't worth watching. I'm saying don't expect a quantum leap in performance but instead, look for improvement and a solid groundwork plan leading into what should be our "coming out" party in 2015.
I see us closer than 2 years out. Like others have said, our D will be PO caliber. And our Teams will be better with Ford/Saunders returning kicks (vs fair catch kerley) and we already have a pro bowl kicker. Offense has always been the lag. But we do have better players this year. For the first time in years we have a legit threat at TE, add WR Decker to Nelson and Kerley, Hill will at least start out healthy, as will our running game (last year Powell was worn out before the start of the season taking 100% of everything in training camp). Plus add CJ2K to Ivory. And last, Geno HAS to be better than last season and if he hurts his throwing ankle again, all pro Vick steps in (vs Simms last year). Remember we split with NE last year and could have won both with THAT team. So ya, we are close enough to expect the AFCE or WC#1.
I think it'll be really close. 8-9 wins is definitely doable. We could hit 10 if things go right. 7 if things all fall apart with multiple injuries, etc. I think the Jets will just edge in at 9-7.
I disagree w/ that statement at least about the D/ the O stunk the last 2 years but I wouldn't say we had very good Ds in any of the 3 seasons. I think the potential is there to be a big time D this year though and that could be the difference.
After looking at the schedule for the hundredth time. I really do think we can go 9-7, but I see a lot of our "big wins" against NFC teams (bears, lions, maybe packers, Vikings) and not against the afc opponents we need to beat (chiefs, chargers, broncos, etc). I think it's going to cost us the final wc spot. I hope I'm wrong because I think we finish the season strong again, but 4 years of no playoffs may mean a sendoff for Rex. No Rex could put us back a little defensively in '15-16 .......
Nope. I wouldn't be shocked if we made the playoffs, but there is too many question marks for me to predict they will make it at this point and time. So no.
That's really not saying much relative to other teams in the league. This offense SHOULD be better than 2013's if for no other reason, Geno will be in year 2 and he won't be throwing the ball to marginal Wr's. The running game should be better assuming the OLine stabilizes with Colon returning to form. If none of that happens, its gonna be a long year. The entire 2014 season will depend on the development of the offense. This ain't rocket science. It is what it is...
I don't see any teams in the AFC at the moment that are better than a 60% chance or so to make the playoffs in 2014. In that type of environment, where most of the favorites have geriatric QB's I think just about anybody could make the playoffs next year. I wouldn't be shocked by a playoff field that included the Jets, Texans, Steelers, Ravens, Bengals and Chargers with only one playoff team from last year making it again.
