The Fresh Prince didnt want to be shown up by the Prince of Zumunda.... btw, that was a funny movie (both of them)
Banned from the Oscars for 10 years. I think he will recover from that awful punishment, I wish my wife was banned from watching it
The funniest thing about this whole situation is all the comedians worried that comedy has changed forever because now they face consequences for what they say. In 1953 the funniest thing in show business was Sid Caesar dangling Mel Brooks out of a 10th floor window by his legs to get a room full of seasoned comedy writers laughing and jumpstart Your Show of Shows writing which had gotten stale. You don't make comedy writers laugh with jokes. You make them laugh by pushing an old lady down a flight of stairs. Chris Rock was trying to get the pros to laugh with the GI Jane comment. Unfortunately Will Smith is no longer a comedian and the joke went right over his head.
RIP Lenny Bruce @Br4d btw. All of my stories are true. My very close friend and fellow artist Garin Baker used to visit his Dad, Fred Baker, in jail on weekends when he was a kid because his Dad was sentenced to jail on weekends for being a Communist. Anyway, Fred Baker made the famous flick 'Lenny Bruce Without Tears'. I always somehow know a guy who knows a guy.
I know he resigned as a member before being banned from attending, but as a member does that mean he was able to vote for himself for best actor? I read somewhere the ban hardly matters because he can still attend as his wife's guest. The Oscars are a sham for the most part, anyway. Prime recent example was snubbing Toni Collette for a best actress nomination for 'Hereditary' a few years ago. No matter what you think of the film and despite some of its flaws that was the performance of a lifetime. She's great in everything she breathes on. She got hosed as have many others in the past.
