I give him credit for transforming the disastrous cap situation from a crippling weakness to a strength. Managing the cap situation was a known strength of his, and overall he performed well in that regard, at least.

.....and as far as shipping Revis out for 2 years, Idzik was looking at 2 throw away years with a unknown rookie QB. Why pay a star defensive player $32M while your figuring out the QB position?

If John had 'kept' Revis for the last 2 years, over half the buck Mac just spent would have been safely tucked away in Darelle's bank account.

I have no problem with Rex putting Mark into the game. He was no longer the starter he was competing for the job. What's wrong with going into a game in the 3rd quarter. I do have a problem if Idzik ordered Rex to put Mark in the game. This article doesn't say much other than Mark yelled at Idzik. I totally don't believe that Idzik was trying to tank games so he could have an excuse to fire Rex or as some of you say sabotage Rex. I saw Idzik after games and he seemed genuinely happy after wins. And you can't fake that. I'm not even sure they disliked each other. And couldn't work together. When Rex was criticized for going to Clemson to see his son play just before the season started at a critical time when the team was putting together their final roster Idzik backed him up. One aspect of the story about possible conflict between the two was the lack of spending for free agents esp for a cornerback. Rex who knew he had to win to keep his job wanted to spend a good part of the cap space immediately and Idzik only wanted to spend a part of it because he wanted money to re-sign veterans like Wilk and Harris. Their cap space wasn't 50 mil it was 20 and then less after he acquired Harvin. I think the extra cap space was added after the collective bargaining agreement. Please correct me if I'm wrong. So there could have been disagreement between the two on how much money they would spend in 2014. And this is just speculation. Yet Idzik really did try to sign a cover corner he just didn't get the players he targeted. In my opinion a lot of the anti Idzik talk was leaked out of one source: Rex himself.
