People can complain and people can be negative, as long as they are rational about it. The problem is a lot of posters are irrational about their complaining and negativity. I'm not that positive of a poster. I try to look on the bright side, and I hope for the best always, but I don't see us having a very good year. The Jets are pretty bad. Does that mean the season is over? No. Does that mean we can't surprise everyone and win a Super Bowl? No. Do I eexpect anything like that? Certainly not, but it's also possible. The problem is when people assume that just because on paper we aren't very good, the season will inevitably be a disaster. There's a legitimate possibility that will happen, but until the real games start playing, it's impossible to tell. Trashing players and coaches because of preseason is senseless. A typical negative response to that would be, "Well, praising them because of preseason would also, by what you're saying, be senseless." Yes and no. There are more positive things to take from individual players in preseason than negative ones. I don't take anything from coaching gameplans from preseason, and I don't see how people can say Schottenheimer is over his head just because of preseason games.

But complaining about complaining will get nothing done. It's very frustrating when people talk irrationally about the Jets, but complaining about it, as frustrating as it is, will not change a thing.

There seem to be many of the opinion that the Jets are a bad football team. Based on what? Preseason can't be used as a measuring stick...especially when a new regime needs these games to evaluate the players and decide who stays/goes.

Many here thought last year when Chad went down, that his career was finished.

Guess what people...heeeeeeeessss back! And he looks like the old Chad, whixh I am more than pleased to see.

If he stays healthy, I'm very confident this team can win some games...and not just 4-5. He's the key. If he goes down.......well it's different story.

I didn't see this as a rah rah thread at all. I like posting here. I'm a pretty easy going guy, and looking forward to the season. When every thread is hijacked by folks claiming gloom and doom with nothing on the side of substantiating facts, or even continuing the discussion of the original post, it makes the experience of being here far less enjoyable.

Example, let's say we weren't all hiding behind our keyboards and were all at the same bar. me and 4-5 get to talking about the Jets. We're all pretty even keel guys, but are also realists, and understand that ANYTHING can happen in the NFL. During our conversation we're trying to remain optomistic (this IS supposed to be fun right?) but are also bouncing questions and concerns off each other. 2-3 beers and some good Jets talk, good times. We decide to go back to the bar again.

3 new guys start showing up at the bar we've come to really like. My friends I still get together to talk Jets and have a good time. Meanwhile, the 3 new guys stand around our table and spew nothing but ubsubstantiated negativity. They claim to be Jets fans but can't seem to find anything good to say about the organization. This goes on for a couple of weeks, and since the staff of the bar refuses to stop the harassment, and since none of us are interested in getting locked up for smashing in some trolls faces, we stop going to that bar.

I don't want to stop going to that bar. There's a difference between constantly being negative (but realistic) and being nothing more than a troll. Everyone knows the 3-4 folks I'm talking about, and something really should be done to ensure at least offer constructive opinions (even if negative) if they want to continue posting here.

    1. New defensive scheme
    2. New offensive scheme
    3. Rookie HC
    4. Rookie GM
    5. Rookie OC
    6. Rookie DC
    7. Many rookie Assts on both sides of the ball

These are things that I worry about this season that don't even have to do with our on-field personnel. Yes, Donnie Henderson's defense showed us that a team can overcome a rookie DC with a new scheme, but both sides of the ball? With a ton of new personnel?

I am optimistic about the long-term success of the Jets with these new guys (although I am hesitant to support Lil Schott yet), but these things are realities.

Theres gonna be assholes who are negative and theres gonna be fans who see the light of winning no matter what. Thats what makes a fan message board what it is.

nicely said...but in the bar yo have to actually hear the obnoxious guy talking. this is a message board, just scroll a little bit. I agree that the 3 or 4 ridiculous negative posters serve no purpose here at all

Alot of Jet fans are awful. It's true. Alot of awful fans. Now that doesn't mean their aren't some EXCELLENT JET FANS, their are but there are also way to many Jet fans who are clueless. I mean geez, just read some of the threads focusing on conditional sixth and seventh round picks, like that means anything. Or people acting like Deion Branch should be holding a clipboard. Meanwhile the guys a Super Bowl MVP. Meanwhile those same people act like Jerricho Cotchery is some star. It's very depressing.

Ladies and Gentlemen...as an oldster, long time game attender and newbie here....I have to tell you that the culture of negativity has flourished for a long time with Jets fans and their chats and boards.

Is this surprising...? Actually no....spend some time on some other teams boards....try the Bucs...then try the Lions. I feel that we are not alone in the dark views of our teams. Someone blamed it on more knowledgable fans...I like that...and thats a good thing. More knowledgable fans equal better debate and we all need that. But I agree that we shouldnt tag this as a rah rah thread. Actually i am still stunned at the preseason vitriol and misplaced judgement...but again that is chat and BB's

I have seen enough to realize that Jetfans have a darkside view...the SOJ syndrome, if you will. And it has been justified for a long period...but from the Parcells era on this has been a different team and if you cannot recognize that then you havent been looking hard enough. and NOW a new era begins....and I'm just glad to love football for all these years...have directv/nfl ticket...season tix and to be alive when football rules.!
PS all i need is a tailgate party
