This is how you become a poverty franchise by missing on first round picks. I know he needs time but you can’t afford that. Give him reps. We had a stable of DE too so really question this. People say because Huff is gone but he could sign for hometown discount. Just wild to draft this guy and decide not to use him.
there is an old saying that "today's luxury is tomorrows need" we see it time and time again. remember when the Q pick was a luxury and we had bigger needs? meanwhile he became a necessity pretty quickly and now will anchor the defense for another 5 years on top of the 3 he already has. many were clamoring for josh allen (DE) as edge was more of a need. allen started off hot then fizzled into a solid player but not a great one. meanwhile Q is the 2nd or 3rd best DT in the NFL. JD has a system. blue chip players with early picks as they are often the difference makers in games (guys like GW, sauce, micah parsons, nick bosa etc) then round out the roster with later picks. he's drafted a 1st round OT, 1st round OG, and 2 4th ronud OTs, and a 2nd round C in the past 4 drafts. he also singed a top FA C and a top FA OG. sure the end result overall has been poor. tomlinson was a bust signing so far but nobody could have seen that. becton missed 2.5 of his 1st 3 years on a freak injury, mitchell had some weird blood clot issue that forced him to miss most of his rookie season when he was supposed to be bulking up. sometimes shit happens, but not taking mcdonald if you feel he's a blue chip player is a mistake
AVT, GW, Sauce, JJ, (not a first) breece, have all been great overall so i mean we aren't whiffing on 1sts often. really just zach and bad luck with becton. last years draft class is one of the best in the past decade of any team
I’m sorry but the fact he can’t force his way on the field is concerning. He’s the 15th overall pick. He’s also an older rookie so we aren’t talking about raw 20 year old here.
Idk, he was getting abused. But my point is your talent has to play. We decided to roll out the exact same OL as last year lmao.
Sure but 2020 he missed on everyone. Literally. Also, he picked Wilson. How can you scout that and miss? It’s not good. it just doesn’t make sense. Maybe he overestimated his stay and ARod but the fact we didn’t go OL or a real backup to a rod is bad.
Exactly. It’s like how did we prepare ourselves for the Super Bowl if that’s what we did with our first round pick (if A rod never got hurt). Awful move by JD. May pay off down the road but it’s a wild theory for the now.
This is my feeling. We were supposedly all in for the run with Rodgers but we're also using our 1st pick for the future? Doesn't make sense.
Covid fucked some shit up in the natural world. In the scouting world too. Btw.....My guy Ashton Davis still Ballin! Didn't you see that fake punt conversion?
The thing is, when that draft happened, there was a consensus it was a great draft. Huge credit to JD for that. I usually like to look at Connor Rodgers board because he provides a reasonable consensus view of the prospects. Here is his 2022 board. GW, Sauce, JJ, Breece, Ruckert are rated as 3 first round talents and 2 second round talents, with 3 of them the best in their positions and one second best. To get that haul is impressive in one draft. Clemons and Max were 7th and 5th round talents. I like Clemons as depth and Max sucks, but what made this draft special is top 5 guys at the top for the draft. Take a look at how the draft stack up now though as compared to consensus. Here is Connor's board. Will and Tipp are rated as two second round talents. Izzy 3d round talent, and Carter Warren 5th. So, its not exactly like the year before. We actually underachieved compared to consensus. According to projections, great pick of Izzy, solid pick on Tipp, and reaching for McD and Warren picks. Let's see how it all works out, but last year consensus said great draft (and it was). This year not so.
Connor is a terrific talent. His NYSE pod with Trevor Sikkema is amazing and I love the work he does with Joe Caporoso on their Badlands pod. Their content is absolutely worth the $5/month ($10 for the higher tier). They are spitting out new pods, articles, and film reviews almost daily. Highly recommend.
i mean the 14th overall that people claimed was stolen from us can't force his way on the field either and the people in front of him aren't good
you people act as if whatever we want is there all the time. 2020 wasn't a good draft but it was the covid year and JDs 1st draft. becton should have been a hit if not for a freak injury and long recovery and nobody could predict that. wilson by all means was a good pick. people like to hindsight shit but everyone here is wrong all the time. I remember when I said we should trade back for lamaar or sit at 6 for allen and people shit on me for that and it was all baker and sam and look how that tuned out. wilson to me looked just like josh allen on film. I loved wilson as a prospect as much as i loved allen. sometimes it happens like that. we all though rosen was a "safe" pick and we were all wrong.
lol it's 1 dudes board. who cares. people had brady rated as a late draft pick and he was the best QB all time arguably. all that matters is how they turn out
Agreed. Thinking we had a good draft on draft day isn't the measure off how good the draft was. Its where they picks are 3 years later. We are just finishing the 2021 evaluation this season. Next season we'll do the 2022, etc.
It is true, but McDonald wasn’t really a first round graded player in general so it seems like a reach. He’s also a 24 year old rookie that looks like he’s going to get redshirted although it’s early. Maybe he becomes a star but meh it really wasn’t a very practical pick given our situation and defensive line depth.
some had him late 1st, some had early 2nd so yeah you can say 15 is a reach but he wasn't going to be there by our next pick. sure it's a curious pick but doesn't mean it was the wrong or bad one. it's way too early to tell that.
