I've never yet heard of a contract restructuring for a retained player that didn't result in an immediate net gain for the player involved. It won't impact at all on future negotiations.

Of course they will remember it. There are two sides to it, Kendall's and the FO. The future players to rework contracts will have to keep this in there mind and make up their own minds whether or not to rework it. These players know its a business. When it comes to money, players do whats in their best interest not what fans want or owners. As well, owners and FO will do whats in thier best interest. Remember too, we are only getting the reporters version of the FO side and Kendall is being quoted by anyone who will listen.

When was the last time a player restructured purely to help the team out with no personal gain?

    Kendall's Agent: One-year option a lie
    By Tom Rock

Spoke with Kendall?s agent, Neil Schwartz, this morning, and he and Pete are pretty steamed about the unnamed source in today?s Newsday article who said that Kendall had the option of signing a one-year deal before the 2006 season and decided to lock in for a four-year package.

?It?s a blatant lie,? Schwartz said. ?The person who made that statement is cowardly for not putting their name on it.?

While hostilities between Kendall and the Jets continue to rise, there seems to be an easy resolution, at least from Kendall?s camp. I asked Schwartz if, after all Pete said yesterday, he would sign a contract if the team met his request for a million dollars more this year.

?It?s always been about the money,? Schwartz said. In other words, after all the snubs, unprofessionalism and unreturned phone calls that Kendall charged the Jets with yesterday, he?d still be willing to play here ? for the right price.

  7. W/ any other player I might give them the benefit of the doubt, as they often get the short end of the stick in terms of contract negotiations and low blows via the media...

But anyone who has seen Kendall in interviews, knows he has a bit of an attitude problem, and can come across as very arrogant. he also had a very similar problem in Zona under Denny Green(who most players love).

Huh? I'd take a conditional pick - 7th turning to a 6th if he starts 16 games. We need to extract this guy from the team, not treat him as an asset.

I don't know anything about the situation, but isn't that his job?
I would think the others players would expect him to speak up if something was violating the CB.

You got it. Pete Kendall is using his connections in the NFL Player Mafia to get himself more money in a maneuver that is pretty bush league and antiquated.

I saw an NFL Films clip last night in a feature about bad language on the field. Kendall, playing for the Cards, was yapping at an official and Jake Plummer forcefully told him three times in a row to "Shut the f@*! up!" It made me think of all the people on this board who would probably want to say the same thing to him!
