the browns fired mike lombardi after only one season, and hired pettine as the new hc. seems to have worked out for them.

we can also think outside the box and can idzik based on how badly the team has degraded under his management.

All you need to know about the intelligence of Jets fans is reading the constant drivel "Woody is Cheap" and "Idzik is a bean counter" mantra. You can punch people in the mouth with toilet paper and they'd still spout bullshit.

Hoyer has looked like garbage in his last 3 games. He has weapons in Crowell, Hawkins, Gordon, Austin and a pretty good line as well. I'll take a pass on Hoyer.

    Bump!

So, after last night's debacle what do we think now??? What a tragic mess this is...I don't see the Jets winning another game this season. I only PRAY that Oakland can pull two out so we can be in the competition for the top pick. What a disgraceful disaster.

I'm sure woody will keep idzik to see how part 2 of his plan works out. Part 1 being too turn the cap situation 180 degrees and amass a war chest. Part 2 is to bring in a new coach and spend money to get him what he wants.

The only way I see something different going down is if someone like jon gruden or cowher comes available

No, no... You're talking sense, man. It follows that Woody will have none of it. A good article about this in the NY Times today.

I think JI will be the driving force behind the next step for the jets, his coach, his staff, his way. Woody hired him for a reason, it wasnt to crunch numbers it was to make a good team in the long term. he'll let him see the fruits of his cap work,no matter what the billboards say.

and wow, did not expect an NYCFC crest on here. root for BWP and RBNY myself.

Idzik can go back to his 9 to 5 - job booking airplanes and hotels in Seattle, because that's what he's good at, and thats just being honest.

Sense?? No competent GM can take 18 draft picks in two years and end up with THIS. You have to be kidding. Did you happen to notice that we can't even field a viable NFL offense? Did you happen to notice rookie receivers all over the NFL (including Jarvis Landry last night) catching passes? Did you happen to notice that neither of his #1 picks can play? He's turned us into a complete joke under his watch. If anyone has earned his way out the door it's this idiot. No way should Woody give him another year to put us in an even deeper hole.

this post says nothing because most of the fans are saying holes that were there players he signed/picked. And you come back with this... gagrle please because most fans that want Idzik gone want Rex gone as well for valid reasons.
Idzik sucks as a gm and several people have giving very good reasons. The OP here gave an example of a gm that was let go after 1 yr and this crap from you.

If you are asking why I didn't think we were 2-9 bad (it is now obviously 2-10), then the answer is simply that we finished 8-8 last year. Is this roster worse overall? I don't think it is. I'd struggle with saying it was any more than marginally better either. The corners are clearly worse, not that they were great last year, safeties are pretty much the same, as are both lines. Our linebackers may be a touch better, with the RBs, TEs and WRs probably quite a bit better as a whole and at QB we added Vick to the mix.

Last year we got a bit lucky in a few games and were flattered by 8-8. The schedule might be a bit tougher this time round. How many wins do you think these factors should take off our record - 2 or 3? 4 perhaps, at a stretch. Do you think we're getting to 4-12?

So what you are saying Idzik sabotaged the season by under spending and putting an infrior product on the field on purpose so he can bring in his own staff. At the expense of paying fans and players.... That is a firing expense in and of itself, f this if you that is ok. if that is the case they turned a hard core life long fan into a distant observer.

If he wanted Rex gone and brought in his own staff he should have not extended him last yr why make us suffer through this bullcrap season.
Read the times article and it sums i up perfectly. he had 20 million under the cap he should have spent because it makes him and those under him appear successful.

From what people are writing lets give the village idiot idzik another yr. For what he has not impressed in his drafting ,his free agent pick ups have been average at best and now with ahigh draft pick he is supposed set the direction of the franchise for the next 5 yrs and in the last two how many starters out of 18 draft picks and 2 free agencies has he gotten....
5 maybe 6 starters. And average fan could do a better job

The 1 thing keeping me from getting completely on board with firing idzic i the fact that 4 years prior to him rex we were still missing on offensive draft picks. 6 years of rex and the best offensive player picked has been kerley. Now mark goes to philly is looking like a qb. Granted the team is pretty loaded, but it makes me think the problem might be more rex than idzic. If he is fired i won't shed a tear. These are the type of seasons that cause house cleanings, but i don't think its a horrible move if he is retained.

Problem is we can't separate what had Idzik's hand on it vs Rex these past few drafts. It's better to clean house bc if we are wrong, Idzik gets a few more years and we may not be competitive for 4-5 years when we realize Idzik is at fault today.

I get that. The problem with cleaning house is the next guy you bring in is either a rookie or a guy that failed in his last chance.
Like i said i won't cry but if he is fired i would grade him an incompleten because we really don't know.

Are you implying that "intelligent jet fans" should recognize that Idzik body of work so far, after 2 years, 18 draft picks and free agency has demonstrated great football insight, presumably beyond his ability to manage the cap? Please. The talent on this team has steadily digressed into shame. I suppose intelligent Jet fans should also blame Rex for the quality of the personnel selected and give Idzik a free pass.
