If the Jets attempt to be playoff pretenders next season and NOT take this golden opportunity to dump salary and age, I'll get my Lightsaber and Darth Helmet out of mothballs and lead the assault on Jets HQ no matter where they hide it. There's no way the Jets should be thinking of anything but rebuilding right now. No UFA's inbound, dump high salaried vets that contribute next to nothing and start over in a new direction. No more business as usual in the FO/CS.
Notice how I didn't write that in my post...I just said the Jets could be "better" than last year. I agree that it is extremely doubtful that we make a Super Bowl run this year. Anything is possible, just not likely. Then again, when we think we are Super Bowl contenders, we usually are horrible, so who knows.
Yes... it takes more than a year to rebuild an offense. Not to mention the defense isn't perfect either. New QB, new RB, new linemen. At least 2 of these positions will feature rookies. New offensive and defensive systems, growing pains among the new, young CS. It's a rebuilding year, guys. Hopefully we won't be as putrid as we were in 2005, but we're likely not going to be competitng for a playoff spot.
4-12 would be not good but not bad because we are rebuilding. 6-10 could be good as long as we improved down the stretch. 8-8 would be fantastic. We would be a good team in 2007 if we go 8-8.
Didnt we rebuild two year ago though  Either way I think well be in the running for a good QB in the draft next year. Brady Quinn will probably be the #1 rated QB, but depending on where we draft if not him than I think wed probably be in line to nab Chad Henne. Would be satisfied with either, really
As long as we win or play win in dec I will be happy. Like miami did this year. They started off weak and played well down the stretch. We need to think about wining in the long term
2 years ago was the 2003 offseason and that was certainly not rebuilding...we brought in a couple of players in a couple of positions and almost went to the AFCC game because of it...
It certainly seemed like rebuilding especially after going 6-10. We let go of Jones, Lewis, Garnes, Robinson, Beasley, Conway, and brought in Barrett, Barton, Kendall, Tongue, McCareins. Im forgetting some but it was still a major overhaul at the time. But its all peanuts compared to the task ahead of us
Well that's my point...what we did in 2003 was the epitome of retooling...we dropped guys and replaced them with better players and made a pretty good team out of it... This offeseason is completely different...WHOLE new front office...will wind having a WHOLE new team...even if we win 7-9 games this upcoming season, what we are doing now has to be considered rebuilding.
You have no idea what you are talking about. The weak armed QB, old RB and shambles of an O-line - and the recent occurrence of a lot of them being asked to take pay cut - are a direct sign of the rebuilding process beginning.
I agree completely... RobA, It is good to know you are a strong fan of the Jets, but you are either bias or just plain stupid. The Jets are clearly in the beginning stages of rebuilding the franchise. No team in NFL history replaces an entire front office and most of the Veteran players and wins it all the next year...it just doesn't happen. Just want to make sure this is clear as well...you don't actually think Jay Fiedler will be on the team next year do you?
On the team: Yes Starting: Depends on who we bring in, a younger guy will probably get the start. But either way, Jay is a excellent backup/average starter, either way we will be fine. If the new starter sucks, he can step in and take over.
