It would be very tough for a rookie to come in and beat out two guys who have already been in the offense for a couple years. Clemens had more of a chance in 2006 because the offense and coaching staff was brand new to all of the QBs, so the playing field was more level, and Pennington was fresh off of two major shoulder surgeries. From what they all say, it's a pretty complicated offense to learn, so the veterans here have a decided advantage. Not to say Ainge shouldn't get the chance to compete for it, but I'd be shocked if he won it.
He was, and the great Bellichick didn't give him a chance in camp his first or second year, he got in when Drew Bledsoe got hurt.
We will keep him on the bench for 2 years to learn....hahahaha then he'll go to another team and kill us
http://www.newsday.com/sports/football/jets/ny-spjets045673515may04,0,1030350.story I have high hopes for Ainge - Cutcliffe is the real deal as a QB guru. I'm a Duke alum and more excited for football season than bball season next year thanks to him.
I do not think so. The interesting thing is that I think that the CS actually likes the development of Ratliff as well. Which leaves Clemens, Pennington, Ratliff, Ainge and Tui all fighting for three spots. If Ratliff is coming along and if Ainge flashes, I think that the Jets need to unload Pennington and go with the young guns. A trade tight before training camp or just before the start of the season might yield much better value for him than a draft day trade. The more I look at it, the more I believe that for the future of this team Pennington needs to be traded or cut.
