We really do not have to worry about it this upcoming draft since due to our sparkling 9-7 record we will be draft in the top 16 not the lower 16

    Friends,

Arguing for this is like arguing for Herm because he gets you to the playoffs. Having lots of above average players is a recipe for just above mediocrity.

Football is a game dictated by those who offset the balance. Non QB's that require double teams that can handle the chaos on the field are the single most important factors in winning, outside of a Belichek who can neutralize much of that. Look at what happens to the Giants offense when Eli loses his 6'5 security blanket who gets the 8th man out of the box. Or imagine Warner and Faulk behind a mediocre LT.

Back to the thread - you usually only find the game-changing talents that always command the double team in the top couple of spots. It's up to the GMs and scouts to stay away from the bad decisions and draft in the top 10 the guys that Mel Kiper says are 2nd round picks. The real challenge is GMs being scared to face their fans after picking a "4th round projection" over the hyped up workout monsters.

But to the original post - if you don't want top 10 picks, you're missing a chance to put guys on your team who will free up the field for other players.
