Arizona would be a nice place for him to play but if he wants to win a championship I'm not sure if he gets one with the defense on that team.

We have a much better coaching staff here now, especially on the defensive side of the ball, than we did when Favre was here. I don't think I want Peyton because it means giving up on Sanchez, but I also don't think it would be the same as the Favre year for a few reasons.

Sorry blocker but when you can think of 5 or 6 games the defense lost for the Jets last fall then you would have to say they arent elite.

OAK, NEx2, PHI, DEN ... possibly NYG games. You could debate the DEN and NYG game but elite defenses don't give up game-winning drives in the end or 99yard touchdown plays.

OAK, NEx2 and PHI all destroyed that "elite" defense and theres no debate about that.

I don't care where they finished at the end of the year stats-wise any defense that loses 5 games in a season by themselves essentially isn't elite.

Wayne Hunter starting anywhere on the OLine would be enough to scare off any sane QB let alone one whose coming off a neck injury. Add that to the instability that is the Jets Lockerroom these days and there is zero chance Manning will come to Jersey.

The comments that he doesn't what to upstage his brother are valid, however with Eli winning two SBs now I don't think he can really be upstaged that easily at this point.

Here's My top 5 reasons the Jets would at least be a contender.

O-line- According to profootballfocus.com Seahawks have the 29th rated o-line, Redskins have 27th, Fins 22, Cards 21, 49ers 20, KC 16 (Barry Richardson was the worst starting tackle in football last year). The Jets were rated 12th after being 1st the previous 2 years, also they had 3 pro bowlers. IMO a QB who just missed an entire season with a serious neck injury is very concerned about being protected.

Money- I recognize that the Jets have limited cap space but if you cut Mark you save 12 M, that plus the 15 M they already have would be more then enough to get Manning. That plus the multi-millions he'd make in endorsements. Think about how many endorsements an average QB in Mark had. Eli and Payton would make an insane amount of money in NY.

    Tom Morre

Defense- Jets has the 5th rated D last year. Lets try and not pretend that the Jets D is great.

Rex Ryan- Everyone says that Payton is such a classy guy that he'd never play for a guy like Rex I agree to a degree, however I think Rex plans to tone it down next year Payton or not, also Rex would let Payton have a major controlling stock of the offense.

If Payton wants to be protected, play for a super bowl contending team, make a ton of money and have control of his offense so he can call audibles, He'll be a Jet. Personally I don't think he'll be a Jet next season, I really think he'll either retire today or he'll be a Chief. Just my thoughts

Where is the Titans? I bet he stays in the division and takes Tenn to the next level.

junc, it was 3rd in '10, and 5th last year. What do you classify as elite, only first?

Idk if Peyton would come here, but it would be alluring to him that we have a top defense, something he RARELY had in Indy.

This is poor reasoning focusing on cherry picking individual plays. In '09 we finished 1st in D, yet the D blew 5 games in the last minute of the game contributing to 5 of our 7 losses.

Pitt finished 1st in the NFL in D last year but gave up an 80+ yd TD to Tebow in the playoffs. Are we gonna cherry pick that play and say Pitt didn't have an elite D that year? Look at the entire body of work. The Jets had a very solid D last year ranking in the top 5 in plethora of categories.

I'm thinking more and more for the Texans. Warm weather, Arian Foster, Andre Johnson, a great D, a place to stick it to the Colts x2 a year. It seems perfect if they want him.

The Texans and Cardinals are logical spots for Manning to land.

The Texans? Don't they have that Matt Schaub guy? And didn't they just spend a bit of money on their star RB? And don't they have a top 3 DE to re-sign? Totally agree about the Cardinals though. With that young defense, adding a proven QB on offense could really put them back in contention.

Schaub will be 31 when the season starts and only has 1 year left on his contract.

    Really?

Do elite defenses allow a Tim Tebow to go 95-yards on a 4th quarter game winning drive, allow the Phins to score on a 21-play, 11:00 minute drive or allow the Giants to score a TD on a 3rd and 10 from their own 1-yard line?

The Jets defense last year was no where near elite.

It wasn't elite, but it was a great defense. They finished in the top 5 in a ton of def categories. Stop cherry picking plays, it only makes you look like a fool.

Is Pittsburgh's D not elite cause they let Tebow throw an 80 yard bomb against them?

Also something very funny about a Pats fan making fun of another teams defense.....

It wasn't elite, but it was pretty damn close to elite.

Easy. The argument would be: I don't think he will bring a SB to the Jets and the rest our team will get even worse as we miss winning another SB. Once Manning leaves us, we then have more holes than we do now and the same amount of SB wins.

I think most Jets fans would love to win a SB (Some seem to enjoy the fact that we miss) but do the chances go up immediately? In Vegas they might, but we won't see until the first game of the season. We have no idea how a QB who has not played in a year will play and this will probably be the only move we make if we get him. I would be fine with or without him, but getting him does not make us a SB contender immediately.

No to Manning unless he is Mark's backup.

Payton would piss all over that Piss poor D up in NE.

The Jets D has ranked in the top 5 of the NFL every year Rex has been HC. Get your head out of your a$$. I'd say ranking in the top 15% of the NFL for 3 years in a row is pretty good, yea your right terrible D. They might not be an all time great D but right here right now they are great.

Please go write on a Pats site and leave us alone, or at least post with some sort of knowledge, actually never mind just leave it'd work out better.
