This years wr class was weak, lots of players were very close to each other so why not take clearly the best tight end.
We aren't getting your point because it sounds as though it was written by a 5th grader who's first language is not English! Who are you to judge a 'bust' when a player is in his 2nd or 3rd year? Put down the chocolaty beverage and think before you type.
If there is any one constant thing about the Patriots' offseason acquisitions, it's that they are constantly trying to bring in talent at TE, whether it's FAs or draft picks. I think Baker would be signed by New England inside of a couple of weeks.
We traded up last year and ended up with two 1st round players, who are now fixtures in the team. Who is to say that the two selected yesterday won't be the same - have more faith, we could be going places this year.
Because if we didn't the Giants were gonna take him at 31 and then trade Shockey. So by drafting him we not only get a TE wit WR speed but we also force the Giants to hold onto Shockey by taking the guy they wanted. I guess it's payback for the Derrick Ward thing.....
We're not keeping 6 TE/H-Backs.... We have Keller, Baker, Franks, Dearth, Pociask, Kowalewski on board right now. The latter two Mangini seems to want to keep around and develop. Dearth is our long snapper. Keller is a 1st round pick, and Franks was just brought in by this regime. That leaves Baker as the odd man out. Hell, even if we cut Pociask and Kowalewski, it'd still be likely we'd cut one more, as carrying 4 TEs is still a stretch...
