I'm not too crazy about Wason or Trubisky, but I'd like it far more than I liked the Hackenberg pick. I do suspect that Trubisky is the Jets guy, and that they will take him at #6. I also think potentially using Sheldon Richardson to trade back into round 1 if Mahomes/Watson fall is another possibility they will consider.
Didn't want the option available, wanted to know who people would prefer and why. I laid out reasons why I feel Trubisky is the best candidate based on the cast of players he had compared to the higher quality of receivers Watson had, plus Clemson's running game which helped him significantly. Watson had 240 receptions by Williams, Leggett, Scott and Gallman; all of whom will hear their name called at the draft way before Trubisky's top receiver, who will be lucky to hear his name called in 6-7 round. Against the same teams last year Trubisky played significantly better than Watson with far less talent around him. Add in his better spiral, accuracy and ability to read defenses and he should be the 1st QB of the board. Watson is closer to RG3, Manziel or Geno Smith than Carr, Mariota or Wentz. Not to say he won't be a bust, bust if you are going to gamble let it be on a QB. The Jets have spent 9 straight 1st round picks on Defense and look how that has worked out. Every pick is a gamble and I say draft a QB every year until you get your guy. Over the last ten years the Jets have had a lot of forrgettable players picked and the list below are all 1st or 2nd rounders, so no one is a sure thing with this team. Vernon Gholston Dustin Keller Mark Sanchez (who is actually one of our better picks) Kyle Wilson Vladimir Ducasse Kenrick Ellis Quinton Coples Stephen Hill Dee Milliner Geno Smith Calvin Pryor Jace Amaro Devin Smith Christian Hackenberg (still hoping) * That is a list of 14 busts in the last 10 years, no team has a worse record in the draft than the Jets and we wonder why the Jets suck. The only thing we are building through the draft is a list or losers.
Groucho Marx once said: "Who are you going to believe, me or your own eyes?" The only time I saw Trubitsky play was against Stanford in the Sun Bowl. The part I saw had him struggling against the 38th ranked NCAA defense. I know he played better toward the end of the game, but had a critical pick at the very end. Watson on the other hand, barely lost to Alabama in 2015, putting up 40 points, against the 3rd ranked defense, and beat them, the top ranked defense, in 2016. Watching both of these guys play in big games, I'll take Watson.
Yeah, but the poll says "who do you want the Jets to draft if they pick a QB at #6?". Emphasis on if. I agree they shouldn't take a QB, but 'neither' shouldn't be an option in this poll.
I don't want a QB at 6 so the poll doesn't apply to me. There should be an option for neither to prove how many Jet fans don't want to invest the sixth pick on a QB, when we drafted one in Rd 2 last year and have an opportunity to possible get a much better prospect (at least 3 are better than any of this year's QBs) in 2018's draft. Waste a pick on a QB that is project and doesn't have top 10 value is crazy
Ok. Gun to your head, the Jets front office are making you choose which QB they'll take at #6. Which one are you taking? (No wonder this team sucks at drafting...)
If the Jets draft Watson at No. 6 I'm going to thoroughly enjoy perusing the gang green forum. There will be long winded threads/replies about what a bad pick it was.
First, who decides the "Value"? From many years of observation, pre-draft "Value" ain't worth much, especially when the Jets assign "value" as shown by the list above by JetsFan. And just because their 2nd round pick last year hasn't shown any ROI, doesn't mean they shouldn't try again. And finally, there is absolutely no guarantee that any of the "Next, Great, QBs" will actually live up to their hype, or even if they do, that the Jets will be in a position to draft one. If they believe that one of the QBs this year can be their FQB, that's all the "value" that's needed to justify taking him. You may disagree that any of them can be a FQB, but it's Macc who makes the call, and whose job is on the line either way.
if the jets make any selection in any round in the draft this will happen. also, expect the same post about any f.a. signed or not signed, any trade made, any trade someone thinks should have been made(ignoring the possibility that such trade was not available) any coaching firing, hiring or any coach not hired(again, ignoring the fact that said coach was actually an option).
Next year's QB is always better than the current one at this time of the year.. Just watch what happens when people actually start watching Rosen, Allen, Lamar Jackson/Darnold in depth. We'll hear the same exact noise we hear this year.
o.p. makes some valid points, and the small sample size is holding mitchy back. gun to my head i would take watson just on the 2 title games. ideally we take howard at 6 and move back into the first and grab whichever one is in free fall.
I will be one of the first to start one. Might even bring back the Geno "Bust" avatar I created the night we drafted Smith. Would have to change the photo though.
To be honest if you draft Trubisky, he's still years away from contributing, just as long as Hackenburg. Why waste a pick on a QB that has as long or maybe longer then the QB you may have nabbed as the "future?" Either way it's 2-3 years before you will see these guys on the field. I actually feel watson is closer to being ready easily over Trubs. Now that doesn't mean he's gonna be the better QB but I feel in terms of development, he's closer to possibly being a starter in the NFL.
I've jumped into the "draft a QB until you get it right" boat. Trubisky will be the pick. That being said I wouldn't be surprised if Cleveland offers a bunch of picks to get him from us. Obviously they are aiming for Garrett at one and hoping Trubisky falls to them at 12. If they don't think he will they may offer a bounty to jump up to get him. That alone is worth taking him. Either we have our QB or can turn it into more picks.
I would sign up for that. Just not Watson at #6. Too many INTs and high balls for me. Would be Geno 2.0.
The problem we have, once again, is that the Jets are the team Cleveland would try to trade in front of, not with. We are the perceived competition.
