I really thought going into today that Miami was going to be the worst team in the league, but I think I'm wrong on that call. They are at least good enough to compete for the NFC West division title. Worst team in the league probably belongs to the Bungals right now. Thank God we're playing the West and the Bungals this year.
I definitely agree. This wasn't the 1-15 Dolphins we faced today. I think this team will have a 7-9, 8-8 season this year. Their defense looked pretty good and Penny has definitely improvd their offense. We won the game. I think we shot ourslves in the foot quite often, but let's all move on. We're 1-0.
"Whining"? In the "tougher games", if we don't go for the throat, a QB on that playoff bound team will have more weapons and will probably be a better QB and would probably have made us pay for that shitty play calling we had in the 4th. I have no complaints on the FO or any players, or whatever (?), I just think that the philosophy we exhibited should be modified quickly. It's always better to be in a position to kneel than to hope our D can hold on. Christ, that's what we were doing BEFORE we got better.
A lot of you folks are like politicians...you forget what you said 2 or 3 days ago. Go back and look at the threads from late last week. Most people were talking about how the Jets were going to blow out the Fins and how great the Jets are now. That this would be a walkover. Now you can chalk some of that up to pre-game excitement and the start of new season. BUT The Jets were ONE play away from losing to a young team with suspect receivers, a rehabbing (physical and drug) running game, an O-line with maybe 10 years of combined experience and a cast off, noodle armed QB. Two days ago everyone was saying how they sucked and would be lucky to win a game. Now they're the rebuilding Fins who someone actually said a few posts ago could go 8-8 or 7-9. Sorry, kids, I know a "W" is a "W" but this was not impressive.
Winning: Everything else is just pain! Thank you for saying what I have been thinking... I am afraid a lot of these "Jets fans" never went through that 1-15 season with the rest of us. Like Bill Parcells once said: "You never know when that next win is going to come." We won! THE JETS WON!
The spread on the game was 3 and almost all the top handicappers were picking Miami. There are only two things that disapoint me. The penalties in key spots, a 1st down negated by a holding. A False start on 3rd and 2 forcing us into a 3rd and 7 on the last possesion. These are mental mistakes and can be corrected but they certainly are disapointing. The other thing is I think we left some points on the field. I thought the way we moved the ball with ease throughout the 1st 3 quarters should have led to more points. It's only week 1 and we had alot of guys play extremely well and make plays, ie; Stucky and Favre on 4th and 13 as well as Pace and Ellis.
I'm really happy about the game. It was pretty oblivious that we shut down O after we scored 20 because we allllllllllllllllllll know that Chad couldn't score two touch downs in the 4th quarter. Honestly my one grip would be I thought we were respecting Chad alittle too much. Come on we all know that you don't have to play your DB's with in 3 yards of the line against Chad, or Zone or even blitz the guy. Those things give him a chance to make a play. But we still won, so who cares........ beat the Pats!!!!:finssuck:
Misspell Usually I don't like to point out misspells, but "oblivious" is the opposite of "obvious." Hope you don't know that...
What gets my goat is that people are criticized for being whiners for pointing out concerns or issues they had. What are we supposed to do just have a "Only Positive" board after every win? Were people calling for Mangini's head? No they were just pointing out that they thought the playcalling at the end of the game left much to be desired. The fact is that the Dolphins came within one play of beating the Jets. You can say that the Jets knew that noodle arm Penny couldn't possibly lead them back, but in my mind that isn't the way I would want my team to play. Whatever can be said of Pennington he almost lead three scoring drives in the last quarter. Only a couple of excellent plays by Lowery saved the Jets skin. Just as a sidenote I thought that the Dolphins should have ran it on third when they were at the Jets two yard line earlier in the quarter. I myself don't want every Jet victory (hopefully there are many) coming down to the wire. I would rather have a coach try to put the game away on offense rather than hope that the defense can stop the other team. So the fact that people critique different facets of the game (even in a win) is not a negative. Otherwise, this board would be pretty dull.
