Rock bottom is missing the playoffs 11 years in a row. It doesn’t really matter how they looked while they were doing it.
I’m trying to imagine posting on TGG in 2045 when the Jets still have only one SB to their name. I give you all the credit in the world for still caring enough to post on a message board after all these years.
I understand. If you'll recall I was saying all offseason that helping Sam develop was still the top priority and the WR corps had to be seriously upgraded. JD slipped in my estimation following the draft because he only took one WR. I can understand why he spread the love, and respect it on one hand, but OTOH am not happy that he didn't make WR more of a priority. If he doesn't seriously address the WR and RB positions in the draft next year then I'm done with him and the Jets. By "seriously" I mean either signing a FA WR (if there are good ones available) and drafting a WR in the 1st round, or drafting two WRs early (Either 1st and 2nd round, 1st and 3rd round, or at worst 2nd and 3rd round, and that only if Perriman has a great season & they re-sign him, Mims gets healthy and has a great season, and both Vyncint and J. Smith prove to be quality depth). The likelihood of all those players having good seasons is slim and none, so he'd better use some serious draft capital on the WR position. I also expect him to take a RB in the 2nd or 3rd round. I don't think Bell or Gore will be back, and I don't think Perine is a starting-caliber RB. I'd love to see Edge addressed as well, but if it comes down to Edge vs WR, then I'm with Herndon fan, address the WR and offense first, get the Edge in 2022. The only exception to that would be if there is a generational talent at Edge available and the best WR prospect isn't close to that level. As of right now, there will be no generational talents at Edge in the 2021 NFL draft, so he'd better focus in on WR, RB, and maybe OL (in that order).
I wanted Yannick Ngakoue and am puzzled that Douglas showed no interest. We had the cap space and the draft capital, and it's not like Ngakoue is 28. The only reasons I can think of for him not showing any interest are if there are some character issues with Ngakoue that we aren't aware of (perhaps his not being happy and demanding a trade and Douglas didn't want to deal with that again), there was something about his play they didn't like, Douglas thought it would be a bad optic to not extend Jamal, and then turn around and trade for Ngakoue and give him a big contract, or Douglas was dead set against adding a big contract to the cap right now. He knows he may need to extend Sam, there again a ton of FAs next offseason, and he knows that the cap is going to be lower. We would have all complained if he traded a high draft pick for him, signed him to a big extension, and then he either got injured and couldn't play next year, or Douglas had to pass on re-signing Maye and other starters because of the limited cap space. Don't forget that he's a rookie GM. He's being cautious. I'd rather him make mistakes out of being overly cautious, than have him make a big mistake like Mac by throwing around huge FA $ and being stuck in the same situation we were with Trumaine Johnson or perhaps with Mosley now.
As a franchise we have not even made it back to the SB since the 68-69 season. This thread title makes 0 sense. We've BEEN hit rock bottom and A LONG TIME AGO too.
