He was 3rd for most fumbles in 2011 with 13, only Moore and Gabertt had more at 14. Note that is over 14 games, averaging almost a fumble a game. If Shon Greene fumbled that many times he'd still be on the bench.
he only lost 6 though, and fortunately the other team doesn't get the ball unless they recover the fumble, worrying about fumbles that aren't lost is like worrying about dropped interceptions
It does when you're trying to assess the player's skills. If Tebow loses the ball, he doesn't get credit towards his abilities because somebody else bailed him out. I don't want to see a QB fumble the ball, even if recovered, any more or less than I want to see a QB make almost-interceptions dropped by the defender.
fumbles obviously arent good, but are a really bad measure of QB skill, go look at the nfl all time single season fumble leaders, there are some pretty big names up there. Elway Brady, Rothlisburger, Moon. Problem is QB fumbels are largely a result of Oline play. More sacks=more fumbles
I would venture to guess that a good portion of those fumbles were a result of running the spread option, a very tricky ball-handling maneuver with many fakes. Bottom line, 6ints and 6 lost fumbles has him responsible for just 12 turnovers in 13 games. Without looking it up, I would gamble that is less turnovers than most starting Qb's in the NFL over the same amount of games. For a young QB in his first extended string of starts, it is borderline phenomenal.
Sigh. Shonn Greene usually doesn't take snaps from the shotgun, attempt to avoid a rush, scramble out of the pocket while trying to find receivers down field. That's why if I'm reading the charts correctly, QBs held the top 19 spots on the "most fumbles by a player" list.
Ryan76 chiming in with a salient point. I totally dig this. I have had my fill of "gotta throw"...."need a pocket passer"...."must complete 60% or better"... How 'bout we just ask the QB to move the damn chains? Football is a game of power, strength, leverage. I like me some bloody mouth, snot bubbles after the hit football. Put Tebow in and watch the physicality begin. And while the transformation to physical football is transpiring, there will be enough reps, throws etc. for him to improve as a passer. Sanchez is weak.
You're right, if his name was Shane Falco everyone would root for him. Most people do pull for the underdog, and Tebow is the quintessential underdog, so I don't know why the very mention of his name brings on the outrage. Even when Tebow fans admit he's not perfect we're still called "Tebots", "Tebois" etc. Even actual stats are disregarded. Loved that movie btw - in fact I think the whole team is in "quicksand" lately, and we do need heart. Maybe right now Sanchez will bring heart. Maybe the reason it's a touchy subject is because of QB loyalty. Or maybe it's like when a couple breaks up, you don't trash the ex cuz next week they might get back together and its just awkward and your friend is pissed at you. So it's OK to listen to your friend put down the ex, but NOT OK for you to agree. Know what I mean? In this example Sanchez is like the ex and your friend is every poster who joined before Tebow came. Which includes you, so now I've just confused myself. Yay Capt Morgan!
because running teams dont win super bowls. are you guys retarded? look at the past 10 super bowl winners and see what they did to win... thats right throw the football. The league is set up to throw, its set up to protect qb's and wr's. our ground and pound has won us exactly NOTHING! Would you rather have Brady, Brees, Manning's, Rodgers or name any running back in the league?
Dont be a fool Jetsetter. You sound pretty smart. Because it is presently a "passing league" the defenses are geared to stop the pass. A power rushing game that is so physical, so devastating that the defensive personnel and scheme cannot cope, will demoralize a defense. Why not build an offense that manhandles the line of scrimmage so consistently that passing becomes the exception? Ever play football? Ever play in a game when you and your buds cannot, no matter how hard you try, stop the opposition's ground game? Someone in the NFL is gonna do this. It's not a matter of if. It is a matter of when. Tebow is the perfect guy to lead the charge.
Wow, Badaxe. I like the way you think! I love to see a crafty runner weaving his way between the defense and sprinting to the goal line. That's just as much fun as seeing somebody dive catch a long bomb.
What's wrong with you, don't you know that common sense isn't allowed in a thread about Tebow??? It's no great mystery. The reason is because the majority of Tebow haters hate him most for reasons that have nothing to do with football. They have proven this again....and again....and again, with their bigoted comments about him personally, his faith, his morals, etc. Why else would Kyle Orton, Brady Quinn and now Greg McElroy have seemed so relevant, if not for the fact that the alternative was Tebow as starter? For Orton and Quinn, it certainly wasn't because of their performance, it was because Tebow was the alternative.
Here's the truth: The Jets aren't going anywhere this year. So if you're a real Jets fan and actually want to see them turn into a Functional winning Franchise instead of a Dysfunctional sideshow circus looking to make headlines then we should all be in agreement that this year is a bust. Moving forward for this season, the Jets will be branded as foolish if they do not give Tebow a chance as their starting QB. Sanchez has clearly regressed greatly and is not the answer at QB so get over it all of you Sanchez ballsniffers. Who the hell know with McElroy? But regardless you don't bring in the most talked about backup QB in NFL history and not give him a chance to start a few games to see if he can WIN for us. The bottom line in this business is winning games. Period. If Tebow gives u that chance then he needs to be in there. The only way we'll find out - By actually starting Tebow at QB. Prediction - Tebow starting QB by Week 8. If Tebow sucks so what? We already suck anyway so it doesnt matter if we suck anymore. However from a player evaluation standpoint we need to give him a chance to see if he is the guy. If we have a shitty season and Tebow never starts a game and then he's gone after this year then it's shame on the Jets organization. He needs to be given a shot to see if he can win. Our team sucks so we have nothing to lose if Tebow doesnt pan out.
Rex says that Sanchez is the guy who will get it done..really? A big, fat goose egg? Let Tebow play..it's a shame he didn't play more in the 4th quarter. Tebow is getting jipped.
The problem is the Jets don't have the type of players to do this on offense. They don't have the type of players to go spread out and pass either. They don't have an identity and they don't have the talent to create one. The problems lie much more deeper than the QB position. Yet, the Jets are still 2-2 and could still be in first place in the division after Sunday ends. It is way too early to subject the team to a QB change. I would be more open to it if they are 2-6 and you make the switch in the bye week, but my thinking is no QB change the Jets can get will help them and that the end of they year they might throw all of them out. I'd rather see Sanchez finish it out and be thrown out the door and hopefully keep Rex and continue on. If Tebow start, I'm afraid they might throw out Sanchez, Tebow, Rex, and decide on a full restart which I don't want
Midseason QB changes are brutal on the whole team and the QB, and almost never work. I don't think the Jets show any signs of having prepared for that ( despite all the conspiracy theories). I think Tebow was brought in as a developmental quarterback, so the Jets had somewhere to turn if Sanchez didn't pull out of the funk he was in last year. I don't think 2012 was the year they had in mind.
