I think it is the opposite. Geno is significantly more talented than Fitz and he finally has some things going in his favor: 1. No Rex, David Lee or Sanjay Lal 2. A move away from the WC offense which Geno is a horrible fit for 3. Real coaching from Gailey that will emphasize his strengths and the strengths of his supporting players 4. A real receiving corps. Night and day different. Our sixth receiver might be better than our second last year very realistically. Healthy Decker, Brandon Marshall, Devin Smith, Amaro with more experience., Solid slot in Kerley and a tremendous battle for the fifth and sixth spots with Evans, Owusu, Enunwa, Devier Posey. This alone will make a huge difference in Geno's performance. In terms of skill our receiving corps last year was in the bottom 5. We could have a Top 15 or better receiving unit this year. 5. Improved OL. We made a lot of moves to improve the OL, especially in pass blocking. Still work to do but better. 6. Defensive scheme and especially secondary talent will generate more turnovers leading to better field position for Geno 7. Targets in the red zone and red zone play schemes will be dramatically improved Not starting Geno would be a gigantic mistake. Starting Fitz gets us no where. Luckily from what Bowles has said tey are not listening to the anti Geno brigade here.
Has that ever been done in the history of the NFL? Woody doesn't have the cojones to do something like that. Make an awesome story, though....
Last time I checked, Gailey didn't fix stupid. Or Kordell wouldn't have been that horrible. I frankly can't care less about Geno starting this year - but he will have to beat Fitzpathetic. And for Geno, that's a monumental task. Last year Fitzpathetic threw below 60% was 2010. Geno has to hit above 60%. Last year Fitzpathetic had a TD/INT ratio worse than 1 was 2009. Geno still have to post a ratio better than 1 yet. [Last year he was squarely at 1, 13/13]
Heh. Johnny one note. As for this hope business about Smith, speakng for myself I need to have some reasonable basis in order to hope for something. I suppose someone could hope to win the lottery without having bought a ticket, for example, but I could not do that. Smith's basic problem is a lack of judgment in games where there's pressure to make the right decision. He fails at reading and anticipating defenses, in figuring out how long to hold the ball, where he is on the field. He's had two seasons to show he gets these basics, and has failed. Why should we expect him to improve now? Can't think of any good reason.
You've got to be one of those people who believe the world is square and not round, if Geno starts this season then it will just be the first nail in Bowles coffin
One problem is Geno had trouble picking things up even in year 2 and now he has to learn a whole new system, how do you think that is going to go? Fitzpatrick already has the head start of working for a few years in Gailey's system. So they both get a boost from all the positives you mentioned but Fitz has the added bonus of knowing the system. I really don't give Geno much chance of being the starter for the season opener.
I think Geno will pick up the system just fine. It will be tailored to him, more comfortable in scheme and simpler in language and execution. Our offense will not be the Buffalo offense but the offense that best fits our talent. Likely similar though. I see almost no way Geno does not start the season.
Bill O'Brien had Fitzpatrick playing the best football of perhaps his entire career. Last season, he wasn't as turnover prone and he was making plays. He had good chemistry with Hopkins. I think Fitzpatrick gives us the best chance to win next season. Not saying he's the long-term answer, but I don't think Geno is. If Fitz can get healthy and play like he did last season, I don't think Geno has a chance. The sad part is Geno has a head freaking start.
Ok - I'll throw a wet blanket right at ya. Fitzpatrick is injured as of right now. Geno is the default starter simply because of this. [LOL]
If Geno starts and we have the usual three and out I am making a double strength LI ice tea and watching Netflix
Yeah I know that. Training Camp is still a while away though - Fitz will be healthy by then per reports. Fitz could still win the competition.
Whatever head start Geno well have sort of gets negated by Fitz already knowing the system and the OC, Geno has to play lights out to win this QB comp imo
Big Geno plays better then Fitz Bowles is stuck with him Now if Geno wins the starting job and still sucks and Bowles doesn't pull him asap then I would see a problem with Bowles judgement on that
Cleaning out my DVR list, I noticed I still have the Jets-Fins game, week 17 of last season .... so I went back and started watching it. Other than his one stupid fumble where he held the ball in one hand at arms length like he was playing basketball, other than that, he played a great game. I was amazed at how he was able to throw for over 300 yards and complete almost all his passes, despite the fact that the only real threat he had on offense was Eric Decker. And speaking of Decker, he torched the Dolphins secondary to the tune of 200+ yards despite the fact that he was the only guy they had to worry about! Now, we have added Brandon Marshall, Devin Smith, Stevan Ridley, and Zac Stacy to our offense .... imagine how much better we will be this year!
Your schtick is getting old. You don't provide any useful thoughts anymore, you simply roll around through threads and bitch about Geno and not having a QB with turd-like "zingers"
Feel free to put me on ignore. I lend PLENTY of goodly insight to this board. My insight on Geno seems to have hurt your feelings and that makes me sad. So put me on ignore. _
