Cutler threw 28 td's but is widely criticized for having a terrible year, mostly because of his 18 int's and poor decision making. It's more than just td #'s that make you a successful qb.
yeah that's true but that would also mean we're finally putting points up on the board and that's all this defense ever asked. at least 21 PPG for once would win us a lot of games. Our defense will for sure hold their own.
Geno won't even get the chance. Yes he is that bad. I actually have faith in the new staff and Geno will be riding the bench and learning how to read defenses till he's out of the league.
Fitzpatrick is ass... Petty isn't ready... It's Geno's job to lose.. hopefully you enjoy the Year Of The Geno
Gee... NOOOOOOO Yeah. You should learn to read between the lines. P.S. I expect Geno to start this year by the way - I just expect him to suck unlike you.
Because he is the Qb of a shitty team The Qb get all the credits when things are good and get all the blame when things are bad; deservingly or not
I love the fact people still think he has an upside. The kid REGRESSED. You're upside goes out the window when you start going backward. The only thing that can save him, and I don't think it will bc I don't think he wins the job, is a better coaching staff and better weapons. It may get him some inflated stats if he plays, making it an actual discussion of who should start. Oh and all you holier than tho, I'll never boo fans. When you pay thousands of dollars a year to watch your team, and you have some schmuck that throws 3 PICKS IN 3 PASS ATTEMPTS leading your team, you have every right to boo. High school backups have more poise and intelligence than that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Geno is strait SHIT as a QB. You can keep thinking that way but Geno will be gone sooner rather than later. He will be real lucky if any other team would even want him. Go to Buffalo please Geno.
It's Geno's job to lose solely because Fitzpatrick is recovering from a broken leg and Geno is the incumbent. You can't replace your starter with someone who is injured. There's no doubt in my mind that Fitz will win the competition in camp as long as it's a fair competition.
SMith's defenders like to focus on his year total stats and then also add in a nominally better end to the season, particularly the Miami game. But in 2013 Smih also ended the season better than before. How was that a predictor of how he would do in 14 with the season on the line? Not much, because when the Jets still had a chance to make a run, he sucked. He put the team in a hole that killed the season (sure the Cb position was a huge problem, too, but Smith certainly did his part). After having killed the season, with the pressure off and the other team lining up golf foursomes for their off season, THEN he plays well. It means nothing. Nothing. His second year he came back and killed the season. He has no upside.
I honestly see none. All I see is that now the excuses of no weapons and no defense are out the window. He's gonna get a shot in camp. And he should, since he is the incumbent, but if it's a fair competition, I don't think he has a snowballs chance in hell of beating fitz. Fitz probably knows that offense better than geno at this very moment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He'll get his shot in camp. He'll have to earn it this year, though. Instead of being handed the job by Idzik, he'll have to prove he is the best man for the job.
You guys are setting yourself up to be severely, severely disappointed......Fitzpatrick isn't a game manager by any means and he turns the ball over just as much as Geno Smith! Do you realize the three years Fitzpatrick worked under Chan Gailey (2010-2012) before he threw 54 INTS in 45 games?? That's five more interceptions in that same stretch than Mark Sanchez had, in LESS games. Mark Sanchez was practically serving INTs up on a platter! Fitzpatrick lead the league in interceptions under Gailey! Do you realize Fitzpatrick has 89 starts in this league and in only 28 of the 89, he actually finished the football game without an interception!?!? That means in 69% of Fitzpatrick's starts, he's thrown at least 1 INT. That's Geno Smith territory. Smith has thrown at least 1 INT in 76% of his starts... slightly worse. There's this misconception that because he's smart, that means he's a great game manager. But he throws a lot of interceptions and is a terrible game manager because he can't make the throws. His limitations are physical, but does it really matter? If he can't protect the football physically, its actually scarier than players who can't protect it mentally. You can put a muzzle on a guy that makes poor decisions but you can't even run your offense properly with a guy that can't make it work physically. I'd rather see Geno Smith the starter in 2015 by looking at what we have. Call me crazy but whatever. A deep threat like Devin Smith is pointless to have if your QB doesn't have the arm to get him the ball. With Fitzpatrick every game will be the same. We'd run the ball and see irratic short passes to Decker and Marshall all game and defenses daring him to take chances. If the game is close in the 4th quarter he will have to take those chances and he will throw interceptions and most the time we will lose.
I look at the TD to Int ratio over the past 4-5 years as what I'm clinging to. I think on a percentage basis Geno is just going to be worse. _
I think Fitzpatrick gives us a better chance to win. But I finally finished watching Geno's 2013 & 2014 tapes (he was better in 2013 and there were a lot more excuses; horrible playcalling, smothered receivers, etc.) His play before the benching in 2014 was absolutely horrendous, I almost didn't bring myself to finish the season. He was playing like a robot, a really bad one. After he came back it looked like he was playing a little more freely and as a result he was stepping up more, feeling the pocket better, going through progressions more and throwing with better anticipation. He actually looked pretty good against MIN, TEN, NE and obviously MIA. However, I just can't put too much stock into it because I think he really benefited from the decreased pressure of being out of the playoff hunt, just like he did in 2013. He needs to play more relaxed when the pressure is still on. I need Loose Geno to show up when the games still matter. However, there is this theory floating around that Geno is like Petty, and shouldn't have started his first year or maybe 2 anyway. If you look at it that way, these last 2 years shouldn't have even happened and he should have a clean slate this year. Year 2-3 is usually the jump for QBs anyway. I don't totally buy that because I think there are some football instincts and intelligence that he's just flat out lacking, but I can somewhat see where the argument stems from. Maybe with the extra year of exposure to the game speed and NFL defenses, along with going back to a spread system, something can click for him. I think it's slightly too early to give up on him, but I'm not going to put all of my eggs into that basket. That's why this is what I'd do: We have a Week 5 bye, which is incredibly convenient. If the preseason competition is close, I'd start Geno just because I don't want to completely rule out him improving this year. However, if he doesn't show that in the first 4 games, and we hit the bye at 1-3, then it's the last time he ever starts for this team. You really can't wreck a season in 4 games, and seeing as the first 4 are CLE/@IND/PHI/MIA, I think 2-2 is the expected record anyway. The risk/reward of playing Geno in those 4 makes sense to do it. After the Bye, the schedule lightens, WAS/@NE/@OAK/JAX. If Fitz takes over a 1-3 team and manages games like I think he can, he could probably go 3-1 there and get us to 4-4, and we're set up to make a run if we're good enough.
I hope the leash is shorter then that for Geno Smith. We will nearly be out of playoff contention before the bye ... 2 bad consecutive games and he should get benched. If he plays anything like he did in BUF, the experiment is over.
