I think because we saw him next to Greene. Powell looked to play with his heart in it more to me. He seemed more explosive and better at finding holes. If he was put beside somebody else I don't know if the same love affection is there for him. Kind of like a girl with ugly friends. She looks better around ugly friends cause she is instantly compared to the people around her.

With what little $ we are going to have to spend and our desperate need for a better RB corps, Greene will be a casualty of FA, and thus Powell gets to stay on.
The only way I see Greene being signed is if they don't see anyone else in FA who is a significant upgrade and his asking price isn't too high.

They're Jets fans that's why, we love garbage and scoff at the idea of bringing in tried and true NFL caliber players.

Honestly I think we're just so accustomed to crappy backs that Bilal Powell looks like the real deal to us.

This. Unlike Greene, he can cut and doesn't go to ground at the first tackle.

But he still isn't very good.

Honestly folks, I don't know about loving him, but I honestly don't think we have seen the best of the kid yet. With improved blocking by the line , I think Powell might surprise most here who think is is nothing more the JAG.

What are the options? He's a little better than Greene & McKnight has fumble problems. He wins by default.

I don't think Greene will be back. I think his great showing at the end of '09 was a combination of great O-Line play plus he had very fresh legs, Thomas Jones took the majority of the snaps that year and was beat up by the end, and we had a truly awesome O-Line then. Greene doesn't have burst, and he can't make up for a run block gone bad. He definitely is not nearly good enough to play #1 RB on a ground and pound team. Powell on the other hand is better at seeing holes, has better hands, and is better at eluding tackles. that being said, he just doesn't have the physical tools to be a #1 back on a ground and pound team. I like what I've seen from him but he can't be our #1 guy. Let Greene walk, we don't have the $$ to spend on a player that is just blah like him, plus the new GM won't be worried about making Greene look good since he didn't draft him. We should really make a push for Steven Jackson, because I don't think there's any chance we could afford Reggie Bush even if he wanted to come here, which he won't. Rashard Mendenhall is the second best guy on my list, and he won't cost as much after the season he had. I think he could have a good few seasons here.

He only averaged 4 yards a carry because there wasn't a defense in the league who was worried about us beating them in the passing game. The guy has good feet and hands, and I've seen him make enough explosive plays to believe he can be a productive player in a bigger role. In fact, I don't even mind Greene coming back. I'm not so worried about upgrading the running back position. Just get me a goddamn QB who can actually play the position and a healthy Holmes and keller, and watch how much better the entire offense will suddenly look.

Agreed. Running back is the last position I'm worried about on offense.

BP is at a great cap hit and is a serviceable #2 guy... Capable of 10-20 snaps, blocks well, brings power and elusiveness when he carries the ball.

Dont get me wrong he isn't even a 1B guy but a solid #2.

Greene is gone IMO so we need to either trade for a #1 or draft a RB in a weak RB pool or sign one in FA.

Hope we go after one of the pissed off backs (CJ2K, MJD, Mendenhall)

If he can do that while blocking, why is he completely unable to do it while running?

He runs hard, doesn't go down on the first hit, has some speed and looks like he cares.
Jets need more players with his heart

We need whatever Mike Shannahan uses to get production out of the OLine... He has a history a d smarts to be able to insert any back from 1st round pick to 6th round pick Running Backs that all you have to do is insert the back and they go for 1000 yards. If your can get 1000 yards out of Terrell Davis and The Sixth Round back in Washington, he definitely has a formula. Maybe invest in the line.

Not sure why the 3.9 number is getting thrown out. His season average was above for most of the season until it became obvious we couldn't pass the ball.

Anyways, Bilal Powell literally does everything better than Greene, who is a 2 yard up the middle specialist. Many times during the season you saw Greene run for 2 yards 4 times and then Powell would come it, break a tackle and run for 7.

Powell is a jack of trades type but I don't see him as a workhorse. Ideally we get rid of Greene, draft a RB and pair him up with Powell.

It seems every year the top 3 Rbs selected in the draft do great things while we always pick one in the 4th. Let's finally invest in the position and get a top prospect. I miss having a RB that can actually break one.

Because he was not arrested for drug and weapons possession as our new RB Mr Goodson was this morning.
