Woody told them to get a star at QB. He thinks that will sell PSL's. They went for Sanchez because of star-quality. Favre was a Woody pick. Mangini hated it. Tanny is a smart guy and a survivor. Rex is a nice guy but is kind of a defensive savant. He really doesn't have any management skills. Isn't amazing that after 20+ yrs. in the game he claims to know little about offensive football. That really is not head coach material. As long as the owner interferes they will have no success. Too bad because I made my son a Jet fan.
They went Sanchez because there wasn't "none of the remaining QBs option". Again what makes you think Tanny is a smart guy and survivor and Rex isn't? I don't think Rex claims to know little about the offensive, he claims that people they hire to be OC probably know more than him about it. Which I'm fine with, since it's probably true.
Actually Rex should get fired because he has a lot of culpability. But I would say it will end up depending on what the team looks like at the end of this year. 1. He doesn't know how to coach the offensive side of the ball. In general isn't a good HC. I think he lost a lot of respect inside and out side of the organization. He likes to run his mouth and then leaves the players holding the bag to back up his talk. 2. Rex, Tanny, and Woody have worked closely together on the personnel decisions. For example, Rex gave his blessing to Tebow trade and was in on the other moves. It's not like Tanny unilaterally makes decisions.
If Tanny and/or Rex was against the Tebow stuff you think you would have heard about it? Mangini kept his mouth shut with Favre and he may get a job elsewhere someday. If you talk out against an owner you will never work again in the NFL. Woody does not know football. He only wants to sell seats. Unfortunately, he thinks he knows something. That is worse.
I see your point, and we will probably never know what really went on behind closed doors. Even if what you say is true, I can't respect someone is the owner's yes man. A Parcels would never go along with anything that didn't make sense on the field. I can see Woody saying get Tebow we couldn't buy this publicity it will sell seats and put us on the front page. Rex would be like well as long as Sanchez is our starting QB, I can work in some wildcat plays here and there, use him on special teams, and feed the press in preseason that we got some secret use that you'll have to wait till the regular season to generate anticipation so people will be dying to buy season tickets. Dumb ole Rex probably didn't take into account what would happen if it backfired. Undermining Sanchez, and when he would inevitably would struggle, everyone would demand him to start Tebow. Guess what we are here, and the whole non-sense about the secret wildcat looks like a joke.
Probably they could have done something with Tebow as a change up if they were committed to it. So far they really have not used him. NFL football has become like we used to play in the park (one mississippi etc.). Some creative offense may have given them a lift. Unfortunately, Rex and Co. need to go to a clinic or watch some of the formations the collages are using. The way the rules are today it is really hard to approach the game from a defensive point of view. The Pats gave up on it years ago and they still win. As far as Tebow, even Rex knows he can't play. Woody was born rich, he thinks the average fan can be manipulated by pr. Sorry not this time.
This is what I hate about Woody, Stars aren't gonna sell seats for the Jets, a winning football team will. This is why Tanny is uncompitent because he is a direct image of his boss, and Woody doesn't do himself any favors most fans don't like him. He treats this team like a 7 year old playing with action figures who crys to his parents to get the newest toy so all his freinds will like him and wanna come over, Thats Woody Johnson in a nutshell
First of all I agree with everyone else here who recognize that the real problem is Woody. Not only does he own the team, but he is not a hands off manager as an owner, either. That means his responsibility is not merely theoretical, meaning he could exert more control if he chose to. His responsibility is much more direct than that, given his involvement in decisions that are bad for the team. And let's be clear, his bad ownership has effects which have not been limited to poor roster decisions and hirings. He began his ownership with a huge and hugely ill advised effort to get a west side stadium deal done. When that went out the window, as it should have, he then had only a MetLife kind of deal left as Plan B, or so it seemed. So now for another generation or two the Jets are still sharing a stadium with the Giants. This also led to a more direct form of competition in the sale of seats, psl's, parking fees and etc... The focus in short was on competition with the Giants in ways that had really nothing to do with a single minded focus on improving the team itself, and everything to do with unrelated issues. I know the Jets are locked into MetLife for the foreseeable future. But it still bothers me that Woody could only seem to go forward depending on a partnership with the Giants. But for all Woody's problems, the problems the team has are not limited to him. I think there is no question Tanny does not deserve to stay, but also agree with those who point out that as long as Woody is the owner and will meddle with team management as he has done in the past, no real football person will want to work for him. And Sanchez is pretty much a goner unless he somehow miraculously turns it around. That leaves Ryan. I dont really know anymore how I feel about retaining him.
summarizing the thread. Our owner stinks, our GM stinks, our HC stinks, our QB stinks. How have we won as much as we have if this was true?
we've been on eof the top teams in the AFC, we've been to the postseason more than we have missed, we've reaced 2 of the last 3 title games. No we haven't reached or won a SB but we've had chances whcih certianly beats most of our franchise history when we never had chances.
I kind of agree with the TC here- Sanchez is certainly not an elite QB but the weapons aren't there at the moment. The offense has too many starters missing and I'm not sure he's the guy to blame. He showed us promise the first two years when he had a more capable receiver core. I was in the likeness that this would be the year where we would be able to determine if Sanchez would keep his job- but with the lack of receivers, his lack of production is tough to fault. Also, Tannenbaum needs to go.
Can any of you guys tell me why if Sanchez SUCKS...he is 4-2 in playoff road games and beat both Peyton Manning and Tom Brady in the road ?? Do any of you self-proclaimed GENIUSES think that MAYBE the talent on the Jets is the reason he hasn't played at a 'franchise QB' or even "OK QB" level ??? That maybe we had MORE then and LESS now ???
Jets never knew how to build a modern day offense. For some reason they can't seem to put together the philosophy and personnel. If your ground and pound, they should have more depth in the trenches. If you want to sling it, then you need players that can win one and one. I don't see any of that with this Jets team. For that Tanny needs to be demoted, and Woody needs to stop putting his hands in the cookie jar. No more "yes" men.
