Because they came in bunches doesn't take away the fact that they're interceptions that the QB, Sanchez in this case, threw. Why not just start analyzing closer and figure out how many were tipped balls and how many INT's were the result of the WR running the wrong route too? Those are his stats and he owns them. I will say that he has played very well in the playoffs. Maybe that's why he's so aggravating to watch at times, because he clearly can play well at crucial times, but he's insanely inconsistent.
he played well in the majority of his games that year, a few horrendous game shouldn't overshadow that but unless you watched him play every week you wouldn't understand. This isn't to say he was very good, he was good for a ROOKIE.
I have no problem with Rex and Sanchez. Tanny is good with the cap but his personnel decisions have been below average, he has stripped the team of all offensive playmakers, and hasn't done anything to create depth.
It's mostly because NY fans are emotional overreactive clowns. It's really only the negative darksider clown fans that really want them all gone. These are the people that don't say a word when we win, but when we lose they blow everything out of proportion and the sky is falling. The type who dismiss the entire season while we're in first place. Rex is very close to being the best coach the Jets have ever had as far as wins go. He's already the best we've ever had in playoff wins (and %). Sanchez shares that stat as well (out of all Jets QBs), and he's actually got the #6 best QB rating of all time in the post season. The problems on the team go way beyond Rex and Sanchez. If anyone takes blame, it's Tanny alone because he has ensured that Mark has had a revolving door of receivers since he came into the league and the oline has deteriorated a lot in the past couple years. That is not conducisve to a developing QB. Rex & Sanchez have done well considering what they've had to deal with. Of course I think Sanchez still needs to improve a good amount, but stats don't really tell his story. Tanny put us in a spot this year where if our rookies don't develop and break out we are in trouble. The talks should all focus on him, because Rex has done nothing but win games and has got us into 2 deep playoff runs. If we were 2-6 and 0-2 in the division I could see where some of these people are coming from, but at this point it's simply ridiculous. I don't know if there's too many hormones in the water or water, but NY fans are way too emotional and irrational.
Yeah, Tannenbaum has been very questionable lately. And his actions can cause the other 2 (Ryan/Sanchez) to have problems.
Sanchez isn't accurate and seems to be play scared. Although he could have more talent on this team before I would run him out of town. Still he hasn't been good at all. Tanny has been bad these last 2 seasons, hasn't improved this team. He might be a goner. Rex, Is safe IMO, and for those who want him gone, your dumb.
During preseason, Boomer and Carton did an interview with Tanny. He gave similar type of answers that were either evasive or no real substance reasons for the decisions being made. Q: Why did you do X, because it has these negative consequences (x, y, z...)? A: We think its a great opportunity to improve our team. No reason why given just a smug look. Like I know what I'm doing and it's beneath me to have to explain my decisions to the public. The general impression I was left with is these guys in the front office are so insulated from reality that they actually think they're geniuses as the team falls apart in front of them.
Maybe it's Sanchez causing Tannenbaum to look bad? Santonio was 7th in the NFL in receiving yards the year before he came here. In 2010, his first year with the Jets, he set his career lows in both receiving yards and yards per catch. In 2011, his second year with the Jets, he reset his career lows in both receiving yards and yards per catch. In 2010, Sanchez's top 3 receivers were all former 1,000 yard receivers in their mid-20s, plus Keller as his tight end, with both LT and Greene at RB. He had incredible offensive weapons and still ranked 27th out of 31 qualified QBs in passer rating. Of course the talent level has fallen off since then. There are a bunch of teams around the league without a single receiver that has ever had 1000 yards receiving. Sanchez was gifted incredible weapons and stunk, and since those weapons diminished, he has looked even worse. You need an unsustainable amount of offensive talent to make Sanchez look good.
Deep Down this is the same way I feel, but I saw the mob running with torches and pitch forks and I decided to join them
Sanchez did have a very good weapon in Braylon Edwards - Santonio Holmes 'complemented' Braylon very well. Doesn't mean he was worth #1 money. After all, the physical deep threat was Braylon Edwards, and when he was with the Jets, he was worth every penny he got. So what does T-Bomb do? He lets Braylon walk. AND he lets Cotchery walk. Talk about brilliant GM that made his QB look real good. Sanchez might not have helped T-Bomb look like the GM of the year, but it's not even like T-Bomb surrounded Sanchez with protections and weapons either. T-Bomb constantly traded his picks away, resulting in less picks. He lucked out on Slauson - you don't get serviceable backup OG that contributes immediately with 6th round pick. Credit goes to Callahan for that. Other than that, the bust he burned on 2nd round is STILL not starting. Seriously? Burning 2nd round pick on a PROJECT? That's a brilliant job too, eh? And... if you look at the draft he had prior to the arrival of Sanchez, you'd easily see T-Bomb didn't have a fucking idea about how to build a roster anyway, starting with Kendall disaster. Frankly, at this point, I don't even see what the problem was - Kendall was asking for a small raise (that was supposed to have been guaranteed by none other than T-Bomb.) T-Bomb shipped Kendall away - WITHOUT HAVING A REPLACEMENT DRAFTED YET. So he ends up dropping huge money to Faneca. It didn't have to end that way. Maybe Mangini didn't believe in building up at the trench. Maybe Ryan doesn't believe that's the case either. But as the GM of the organization, T-Bomb should know better. -------------------------------------------------------------------- T-Bomb is a failing GM 1. who does not value the draft picks, 2. who does not know how to assemble scouting team, 3. puts premium on select few players and 4. relies on FA heavily. Sum them all up - that's a recipe for a total disaster. To make them happen, he mortgages future for the present. A terrible habit he inherited from Parcells, obviously. And now Sanchez is making him look bad?
I won't get in to the other things Tanny does wrong, because I pretty much agree with you. And ultimately, he deserves any criticism he gets because even if it is Sanchez's fault, he just friggin' extended him. But as it relates to 2010, when Sanchez had a plethora of offensive weapons and Tanny let them go, let's talk about that. We were ranked 22nd in passing yards per game, and 26th in passing yards per attempt that year. Sanchez was 27th in passer rating. Even despite all those weapons, the passing game was broken. Why would you keep it together at that point? That's what I'm talking about with Sanchez making Tanny look bad. Tanny put great weapons around him, and they still were a totally ineffective passing offense. Yeah, Tanny has made a lot of mistakes, and we have bled a ton of talent in the passing game over the past two years. But we're talking gradations of sucking. We were bottom 10 in passing even at our peak, and even with a lot of surrounding talent. It was a no-win situation for Tanny. Keep it together and stink, or blow it up and stink even worse. Ultimately, when you're dealing with a bottom-third quality starting quarterback, there's not a lot you can do to build a successful passing game.
I don't agree that Sanchez has regressed. hes played poorly at times,. or beyond poor to be fair. he is 25. we have gone to two afc championship games with him. in my mind he was never going to be Peyton Manning. the jets looking to save money have dismantled the running game and drafted awful over the years. I cant put it all on him at his age. Rex-has to step up. the biggest problem i see is the defense is just not good, and hasn't been that good. We were suppose to have a monster defense and strong running game giving Sanchez allot of time to develop. the defense and running game is non existent that's on rex. Tannenbaum has done a really poor job with draft picks. f/a signing have been ok. i don't think anyone thought Holmes would implode like he did. not re signing Damien woody a couple years ago huge mistake, letting Thomas Jones go over 2 million dollars another killer. picking Holmes over Edwards has hurt. in fairness i did love the sanchez draft day trade, Edwards trade and cromartie. when things don't work out on a whole gm has take huge blame i guess, there has been no excuse for poor draft picks. our defense is terrible, especially d-line. i would remove him before anyone else.
Because the results don't look good right now, and they're the three most accountable individually. Sanchez has never been a particularly bad quarterback. He went from bad in year 1 (and he was bad), to below average to average in year 2. He stayed at the same level about in year 3. I remember a lot of draftniks saying we had to be patient with Sanchez, and putting him on the bench and having him learn from others might be a good course of action for him. That's a big part of the reason I haven't given up on him. He played 1 year in college, he has less time than most quarterbacks to read defenses on the playing field. However, that excuse is starting to wear thin. He has another good excuse in the lack of talent around him. Basically, Br4dway hit the nail on the head. Sanchez is no longer in a position to succeed, and he's not good enough to overcome it. The Jets are 2-2, so it's too early to say fire everyone. I think the Jets have a 4-10 win range, with the 5-8 range being most likely. But you never know until the games are played. I won't say fire them until it's clear the season is lost. It's bleak right now, but not yet lost until the games are lost.
Yea lol you're right you got me. I realized I did in fact say that after I posted that. But I didn't mean he was so good in that sense. I just meant it that he was successful enough with this team to win games.
There is a lot of dysfunction with this team. Sanchez off the field, is like a spoiled rich kid. On field, he's treated with kid gloves. Because, I don't see the maturation process that needed to happen in terms of breaking down film, dissecting defenses, and translating that onto the field. Nor do I see him going through his progressions. He doesn't have command of the offense regardless of what kind of talent has been on the field. I bet, Santonio Holmes and the other receivers got frustrated imo because of this and being unable to approach Mark about it or the coaches. Rex Ryan and Mike do everything they can to deflect criticism from Mark. I suspect, that they have already lost the locker room. Players are only going to respect accountability. And right now, they're held to a standard that Mark is not. When the defense gets beatdown and embarrassed to the extent it did against the 49ers, the team is in a freefall and guys have started to be about "punching in and punching out on the timecard."
First let me start of by pointing out that Tannenbaum HAS NOT built any Championship teams. We haven't won ANYTHING. My take on the situation is that I feel the scouting department needs a total overhaul. Bradway has been there far too long and produced far too little in the way of blue chip players and I definitely feel a change there is mandatory. I also think Rex is a poor head coach and despite the fact that he has had more success then any Jets coach, his coaching style, especially with the thugs and malcontents he's brought in( Plax, Holmes & others), is not conducive to a successful environment. There is no accountability on this team, never has been. I keep hearing what a great defensive mind Rex is and personally, I just don't see it. It's not too hard to be great defensive coordinator when you've got Suggs, Lewis, Reed and the like, on your football team. I think the league has caught up to his schemes and he's never adjusted. Sanchez has been screwed over by this FO/CS in each of his years since being drafted. The talent level has dropped off each year on offense and he has not had any stability with his WRs, thus giving him time to build chemistry and familiarity. His offensive line has been terrible and is still to this very moment a revolving door of mediocre talent at RT. Tannenbaum is not a " football guy" and if its true he is in charge of actually picking players to make up this team, rather then just in charge of finding ways to fit guys under the cap, that's a problem. My opinion is that this team is, and will continue to be a disappointment under the current regime. You need character guys in the locker room along with talent and discipline. The team follows the lead of the HC, and from what I've seen, Rex is nothing but a talker. I don't see, and haven't seen, him addressing any of this teams shortcomings both on and off the field.
Here's a problem and it is a big one,,,,you can easily argue that the team Rex took over 4 yrs ago had more talent and depth then this current one ! This team should have gotten better and deeper as each year passes it hasn't ! We can discuss many things, our aging LB , our QB s struggling like a rookie in yr 4 or lack of weapons for Sanchez . There's so many things that you can scratch your head about but the thing that really gets under my skin is the fact that after last season, the way it ended, the embarrassment of those last 3 games, the debacle in Miami losing to the Giants on Xmas eve and then watching the G men go on to win the Superbowl you would think this team would have come out this year with a big chip on its shoulder and something to prove ! That has not happened in fact they look as bad as last seasons end, probably worse rite now. Add the fact that Tanny and company had no problem bringing WFH back and giving him guaranteed money only to cut him was my final straw for Tanny n company ! If this team cannot find a way to play hard and turn this season around starting this week,,,then I cannot see how it is not blown up and started over ! We were sold a new car and rite now our car looks like a lemon !
I think Rex is a fine HC. If not here, somewhere else he will win a SB. Talent level on offense rose from 09-10 then started dropping severely. Offensive line has been average this year. They are very inconsistent. The run game has struggled and they have trouble holding strong for deep routes. We throw a lot of our deep throws out of max protect formations because of this.
Great post. To just focus on Rex. He took over a very talented team. Then we spent nearly everything we could both dollar wise and draft wise to get even more talent. We had a great team. The truth is we should have won the division with that much talent. Having wildcard success with a really great team doesn't make you a super great HC or "one of the best Jets HCs ever". It just means you coached one of the most talented Jets teams ever. Great coaches build great teams out of crappy ones. And as the team slowly gets worse the longer Rex is here the more the truth about his coaching ability is revealed. I am not saying "fire Rex" because I think he should be given the chance to improve. But the idea that he was some savior for the Jets is really over rating Rex. He has so many weakness' as HC its hard to know where to begin. Like Sanchez he has developed too slowly.
