Why can't Haynesworth play 3-4DE in the Jes system?

Haynesworth cares about getting to the QB, and having a high sack total. Taking on blocks in the 3-4 on any part of the line would not by fly to him. He is a stats guy, not a team guy. I don't want his attitude here.

Step 1) Take a moment to dream
    Step 2) Trade Leon for a 3rd
Step 3) Trade a 2nd for Haynesworth to play DE
Step 4) Sign Elvis Dumervil and surrender our 1st and 3rd round picks
Step 5) Have an unbelievably ridiculous defense

    Cromartie, Leonhard, Pool Cromartie
    Dumervil, Harris, Scott, Pace
    Ellis, Jenkins, Haynesworth

    Super sick

To me, this would be the ultimate go-for-it-this-year option. Next year, we'd be totally desperate for O-line depth, but it could be worth it.

Step 5) Cry when your offensive and defensive lines fall apart next season and your costs are too high to resign your young corps players.

I agree that it would make 2011 very difficult, which is why I said "the ultimate go-for-it option".

I agree that it would be difficult to resign our core players in that circumstance. Haynesworth's contract is reasonable, though. I'm guessing Dumervil would need a new deal (and that it would be huge), although I don't know his contract status tbh.

Actually, we'd probably be using our 1st and 2nd rounders on an OLB and a DE/DT anyway. And that's exactly what we'd be getting in this scenario.

Again, Haynesworth's remaining contract is quite reasonable. Dumervil will demand a large contract, but a 1st-rounder would at least get a decent one. And the ceiling of those guys (like Kindle, Hughes, even Brandon Graham) is to be as good as Dumervil is right now.

As I see it, we lose out on the 3rd and pay more money for a sure(r) thing in Dumervil. It might be too hard on the salary cap, although we don't know what that will end up being. But the price in picks isn't too steep, Dumervil is young, and Haynesworth is 28 and should have a few good years left.

The Redskins just paid Haynesworth $20million in the form of a roster bonus so they're going to be looking for a shit-ton more than a 2nd round pick. Dan Snyder didn't pay Bruce Allen to make worse trades than Dan Snyder.

This. We would be giving up a Rickey Williams-esque haul to recoup their $20 million

I only mentioned a 2nd because that's what this article said they are looking for (it was posted on page 1 but I'll repost the relevant part):

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d817854e4&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true

"The Redskins sought a third-round draft pick when they shopped Haynesworth before picking up the option, according to a league source, at a time when another team would have had to pay him the bonus. Now, with Haynesworth's remaining salary more manageable, the Redskins hope to receive a second-round pick for him."

Damn, looks like Snyder set up Bruce Allen to fail. Now he can truly feel like a part of the Redskins organization.
