Why can't Darron Lee cover anyone?

This statement is dead wrong. Bullshit actually.
At he end of the Jag game in OT Lee shot a gap and nailed Fournette behind the line of scrimmage near their goal line for a loss. It was a huge play. On third down Lee covered the TE like a blanket on a crossing route to their left sideline to cause the Jags to have punt ...for the W. The QB threw a poor pass but he might've thrown it away. Lee had the TE covered and was position for an INT. Two wins, two well played games, and people want to prove they're right about some negative downer shit that hasn't even played out. Smfh. Somebody tell me where there's a LB in the NFL covering RB's like a CB? So that when people start whining about Lee that he isn't Ronnie Lott I know there's a good reason.

It's time for the Jet fan masses to acknowledge the truth about Lee.

He is NOT an ILB, nor will he ever be. He's simply too undersized and miscast in a 3-4 hybrid. The best move the Jets could make right now is to bench him if they insist on running hybrid 3-4.

Bottom line is Lee is a 4-3 OLB. Due to his petite size, he hasn't gained any weight like his scouting report says he needs to, a 4-3 is the only defense where he'd be a full time player.

All of these delusional posters here need to know they are embarrassing themselves when they defend Sharron.

Kid has combined for 13 tackles and like 3 tackles behind the line of scrimmage over the past two games and for the season ranks 2nd on our defense in tackles.

Lee is progressing. Once the game slows down he's going to develop into an impactful NFL LB once he's able to gain more knowledge on the next level.

This kid has athletically gifted abilities in which can't be taught and his speed & quickness is exactly what the game needs at MLB in today's NFL. He's about the same size as some of the best MLB's in today's game so all of this "too small" talk is bullshit & laughable.

He was a freaking rookie last year. He's not even into his 6th game during his sophomore season. Some fans are clueless in regards to player development from college to the pro's and think every MLB should look like Ray Lewis coming out. It's funny.

Yes, the Jets best move is to bench a guy that's playing well in the defense they run.

Who exactly is the one embarrassing themselves here?

Thank God we have you here to explain this. I'm sure Todd Bowles will also appreciate this because your knowledge of NFL defenses clearly outweighs his knowledge.

Are you still saying he had a very good game if Kizer didn’t suck and miss a wide open Duke Johnson that whizzed by Lee for an easy TD? How about when he was slow to react and basically watched Fournette walk into the end zone for a swing pass TD? Lee has finally showed some progress tho so we all look forward to some consistency. Next week will be a big test with Gronk and Dion Lewis out of the backfield.

We're delusional. It takes a cunt to know a cunt.

Here's what we know about Lee: he's playing his heart out to succeed. He's putting everything he has into it. If only Big Mac & Toilet Blows had asked Bich Cimini before the the pick what the negatives were so they would have known along with the sharpies here that read Bich's assessment right after the pick.

I've wondered if he's a poor fit in the 3-4 too, but I don't know if that's actually right. I believe Bowles was the coach when Arizona drafted an even more undersized player, a safety, Deone Buchannon to play ILB in their 3-4 and I believe he's worked out well for them.

I think it's too early to call Lee a bust. The guy was an rSO when he was drafted and it was a surprise he played as much as he did last year. Let's see how he does as the season plays on.

That play that Fournette scored on was a good play by the other team. There was a pick involved also. There also seemed like there was a little confusion about the D call. And guess what, Lee has a better much idea of what's going on with the D than people think. And there was a pick involved in the play.
I suppose it was Lee's fault that the other team got into that scoring position too. So It's up to Lee to shut down the other team's Red Zone TD percentages also. Does the other team get credit for a good play? Or does Lee get blamed for every positive play on the other side of ball? And all that means that when he came up big in OT doesn't mean anything, Gotcha.
Oh, and also Lee should be the only guy in the NFL that should be stopping Duke Johnson...Right, okay. Toilet Blows shoulda put Damarrio Davis on him...obviously. plays like that are only happening everywhere in the NFL.

I am really on the fence with Lee

I think Mainjet and I are pissed he got drafted so high by Macagnan...kid is improving but he's playing like a 4 th or 5th round pick would to avoid getting cut Plus genius Bowles hasn't learned how to use him effectively

If he was taken in the later rounds instead of one or two we all would send him thank you cards

The Fournette TD wasn’t a pick play at all. They crossed in front of him as part of a normal crossing route and he just hesitated and was slow getting out to the flat. Go back and rewatch it again.

The other team gets credit of course but at some point he has to improve in coverage and he is terrible at it so far. He has shown improvements in hitting the open gap and blowing up plays in the backfield but don’t sit there and act like he is all of a sudden good in coverage. He’s a work in progress still. Duke Johnson is nothing special either so quit talking him up like he’s a prime Marshall Faulk out of the backfield

He had to go behind them. there was not enough field or angle to get to Fournette. I doubt even if there was no hesitation. Because if he reacted right away he certainly would have been picked. But the play was designed to mix up the coverage and you don't know what the call was, or why there was actually hesitation. Doesn't matter whether Johnson is Faulk, and I didn't come close to saying that. But Johnson is good and he's proving that. That not just against Lee. So stop trying downplay what Johnson is when the dude can do what he can do. And it's obvious he's murder in that role.

What everyone in this thread is missing, including the posters siding with me, is that Darron Lee was playing the CLEVELAND BROWNS. The Browns are by far and away the very worst team in the NFL. The Jets played like shit on Sunday. The brownies trumped them by playing like colossal shit.

Darron Lee had an OK game against the worst team in the league. Certainly not great, he made TWO nice plays against an inept team for the first time in his year and a half career. He still got torched in coverage and got steam rolled defending the run.

Posters are forgetting he'll be facing the Patsies this weekend. Ill almost guarantee you right now he slumps back to week 2 incompetence against the Patsies?

But the objective facts are even if he sets the field on fire this weekend with his dazzling play, I won't have to admit anything? Two nice plays and one good game does NOT mean I am wrong. It ONLY means he had two nice plays and one good game.

Hell, Vladimir Ducasse looked like a hof LG playing against Vince Wilfork 4 years into his career. Little did everyone know that Wilfork had a partially torn Achilles and went on season ending IR the following week.

Darron Lee is a carbon copy of what happened to Jonathan Vilma in a 3-4 eleven years ago. A guy that's simply too small to play in a 3-4. BTW, it's not just me claiming he's miscast. Mike Westhoff says the same.

And YES, I very much would take Westhoffs word for it before I would trust anything Toilet Bowles has to say.

lee has had a couple of really good games and a couple of decent games this season. he hasn't been consistent but to pretend he's played like ass all year is ignorant

hes had plenty of struggles, but I think he's one year away from being an average-good linebacker. Jets need a big linebacker to work with him and I personally don't think that should be DD.

DD is killing it though. we are missing the big LBers in the middle for sure. more the reason to switch to a base 4-3. we don't have OLBers either. move wilk inside with mclendon as he looks slower. play ealy and williams outside. lee in the middle and jenkins and davis as OLBs could even keep davis in the middle if we wanted and move lee outside.

Good post. The reasons why this pick was so easy to criticize is obvious.....

His scouting report is very clearly..... He will need to gain weight to be effective in the NFL or something to that effect? have you seen him put on even a pound? I certainly haven't.

Now, if Mac had taken Minnie Mouse in the 5th or 6th round, then placed him on the practice squad with the express purpose of putting weight on his frame? I'd be applauding the pick. We all know he's very fast.

But the real test is can he put on weight and keep his quickness? Right now, playing him at Safety weight (He's only about 215 pounds. All you have to do is look at him to know that) gets him in way over his head? He's miscast in a 3-4 because he's too small. Therefore, he gets annihilated when he gets engaged by a lead Guard. Posters should stop getting pissed with me. This isn't some kind of attack I am trying to formulate? Just look at the tape? He gets launched on his A$$. That's merely me pointing out PHYSICS.

Secondly, and to your point, the jets going into last season NEEDED a guy that would hit the ground running. A guy that would start contributing much like Marcus Maye has been able to this season. When they picked a PROJECT that takes TIME to develop, I knew the team was screwed.

This isn't rocket science. If you see a guy that undersized and knowing the needs that the Jets had, it was obvious 2016 would not turn out well. It might as well have been written on a wall.

What's worse is now well into his second season, he still cannot put on any extra weight? So either he cannot put on the weight or the coaching staff simply doesn't care? Either way, the returns are not even close to that of the 20th overall pick.

Even though Lee was the BPA, that does NOT mean he is the BPA for your team. Seeing Sharron play clearly illustrates that............

    Plus a 1000

    Too funny ahahah

I wonder who "sharon" has to defend against this weekend ..I am sure Bellichek is already counting on a few points with Lee just playing

The USA has the most overweight people on the planet and this is a national health concern..but Lee has no concerns there

You would think asking any person to go and just gain weight with some fast food/donuts would be ridiculously easy plus he gets paid millions not to visit the Weight Room? ? That's on Shoddy Toddy

Lee is closer to 230 then to 215.

He's just a guy who needs space and area to display his speed and quickness. He's starting to slowly get that. It's also not an abberation that one of his better games was when the Jets played more 3-4 then usual. That may have been due to the team they have played but one thing is for certain is Lee is going to play, and play a lot. They will continue to move him around as a MLB and will occassionally line up outside as a OLB (that's because Adams can play in the box as a LB). Davis has been a STUD since coming back too, so he needs some props. But the more consistent Lee becomes, he will get better. He's arguably been better since Bowles stuck up for the kid, he's still young and adjusting to the game.
