Then please explain to me WHY today's two plays were the first two he's ever made a year and 5 games into his career? Why was Demario Davis shooting into his gap to make plays that Lee could not see coming?
NO. He had two plays he actually shot gaps and got two tackles for loss. However, the only way that happens is if Sharron is untouched. If he gets a lead Guard, he gets launched. His pass coverage was as bad as ever.
Yeah, the same Demario Davis who looked like complete shit here 2 years ago. The moral here is that players take time to develop. Even if Lee is only making plays under certain circumstances, it's still better than the zero plays he was making at this time last year. I'm still not thrilled with him either but he has shown some flashes. These guys are not always finished products coming out of school, so just take progress for what it is.
Umm... Maybe you're forgetting that Lee was just a raw rookie last year thrown into the fire alongside of a crap defense with no secondary? Or how he's still learning the game & developing into the position on an NFL level only 5 games into his Sophomore season? Jesus Christ you're acting like the kid is Vernon Gholston & hasn't only played 17 career games (only 9 starts) or combined for 60 tackles and 2 sacks. Sorry if you thought he should be Ray Lewis over night...? With all of this Lee is incompetent talk dating back to his rookie year only just last season you wouldn't even recognize that Lee currently ranks 2nd on our Jets defense in team tackles.
Sorry, but I'm not into Mark Sanchez type timelines. Everybody said Sanchez would be a good QB. YOU JUST NEED TO GIVE HIM TIME TO DEVELOP. Lee is DEVELOPING (That's what you think. I think he's a bust as an ILB) at a snail's pace. It will take him 5 years at this rate to become a decent player. And there's still some things i just don't see going away? He gets torched in coverage and I am yet to see him actually turn his head and look for the football? If you have proof of that, please post it? Like I said, I have never seen it even once? He allows opposing QB's a 139 rating. If a lead guard engages him, it's all over. He gets pushed around like the nerd in school. Often times h gets pancaked. Everyone touts his athleticism, meanwhile I don't think I've ever seen him shed a block. He gets launched on his ass. Jamal Adams is close to the same size and he never gets owned when playing inside the box. It says very clearly on his scouting report that he will need to gain weight, and I don't see that he's gained a pound? He's only around 215 pounds. His draft night listing of 232 is a ridiculous, exaggerated crock of shit. He's the very same size as Jamal Adams. But most of all Defense wins Championships thinks he's given an unfairly being criticized because he was a RAW rookie last year. However, his scouting report doesn't say anything about being raw and providing time to develop. It says he's willing to stand in and take on blocks with a leveraged strike if his gap is threatened. However, on the field he has trouble lining up and he cannot maintain gap integrity to save his life. If he lead guard engages him he most normally gets launched on his ass.
If you can't see the flashes of greatness from Lee then you're dopey. He can shoot through gaps and he can cover, he just can't do it consistently. He's never going to be an LB that powers through the line and levels the QB. He was never going to be that, but that doesn't mean he can't be extremely useful in this league. He's not there yet, and "greatness" is probably a bad word to describe his ceiling but I'm hoping most people can understand it was just a figure of speech.
A blind squirrel will find a nut eventually, something else that has to be considered is how Rodgers has made adjustments to the scheme to eliminate Sharron Lee getting destroyed. The Jets are now employing a 4-3 under look with the strong side LB(Bass/Jenkins) putting their hand in the dirt. This forces the oline to make adjustments in their blocking assignments where the guard can't just peel off a block like he normally would and blast Lee into space. I give credit to Rodgers for seeing the tape and making the adjustment to prevent lee from being humiliated out there. Watch the tape, every time Jets went traditional 3-4 with 3 down linemen tying up tackle and guards the Browns were successful running the ball against that formation. Why? because guard peeled off helping to block and engaged second level LB which was lee and Demario, unlike Demario who could shed off blocker, lee was neutralized. Please watch tape and you can confirm what I'm taking about. I want more than anything for Lee to become a star, I'm not rooting against him, but as I stated before I don't put on green glasses when I watch the jets. Looking at them objectively is what I have always done, unfortunately not every player or coach is going to be the HOF I want him to become.
You are correct. I'm failing to see why this is a bad thing though. It's a lame way to attack Lee when it's not really warranted. DC's are supposed to design their scheme based off their talent. Its why Morton has been a good OC for us so far. Should we take a dump on Jermaine Kearse because his lack of route-running ability is being masked?
Hey don't get me wrong, I would love to see more from a guy we picked in the first round. But I also think considering he was hurt last year and was pretty raw to begin with, we should be taking these mini flashes as positive signs rather than an indicator that he can't do it consistently. He can't, but we knew that day 1. Like another post said above... Demario Davis is a perfect example.
you nailed it. And I'll just add that Bass has been here 2 weeks and he's shown more "flashes of greatness" than Lee has shown in a year and a half. Lee, 1st round pick. Bass, picked up off unemployment line after being waived by 4 teams
I mean you'd hope so considering he's got 5 years of experience, 54 games and 9 starts under his belt.
Lee is probably still another year away from being an impact player. However, you do notice he gets into the back-field very quickly on certain plays. Needs to get better in coverage, but I think the kid can contribute on this team should he continue to improve. He's still very green at LB.
+200 High end draft picks are supposed be ready at go imo He and Hack have to be 2 of Macs worst blunders
Take a look at the 2016 first round and tell me how many of those guys are "ready to go"... Eli Apple - awful Vernon Hargreaves - struggling Sheldon Rankins - invisible Shaq Lawson - who? That's just a few defensive players drafted ahead of Lee. Should those teams all bail because they aren't stars in year 2? Foolish.
True On the hand Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye fit right in I don't have a list or the time but I bet plenty high rounders over 32 teams do very well That said if Lee needs help he should be coached up...look for improvement like last game
Just goes to show that every player has a different developmental path and ceiling. Lee was a high ceiling guy that probably isn't going to reach it, but can still be very good as long as we continue to develop him the way we have. Kudos to Rodgers really, as has already been pointed out. Set him up for success, build his confidence and keep giving him more.
