Why can't Darron Lee cover anyone?

I am a man of integrity and willingly will give credit where credit is due. Guys I've killed in the past like Mac, Bowles and Davis all deserve huge amounts of praise but not Lee. I think he's set the bar so low at this point that making a couple of tackles where he was unblocked and shockingly shot the appropriate gap now equates to a good game. He did not play well; his PFF grade should reflect that. The rare times he fills the right gap it's never with any kind of physicality and the rest of the time he is completely lost, over pursuing, taking false steps, poor angles you name it. I plan to rewatch the game to see if I missed something that everyone else saw. Maybe I'm wrong but from my vantage point, he is seriously handicapping the defense; the Jets are playing a 10 men defense. I am a bit confused by the mix signals Bowles is sending by benching Burris but continuing to trot Lee out there.

Remember the play where Davis de-cleated the RB deep in their territory? I think it was Fournette. On that play Lee beat Fournette to the hole. It was like lightening fast. Fournette veered to his left and Davis crushed him. If he didn't get an assist he should've. When Lee plays fast to compete all the time maybe he'll look better overall. But when he played fast it was impressive and he made plays. I think he's still thinking about too much shit outside his responsibility, like he's distracted, and he may not have a full set of football smarts, instinct. It'll be about that, not his size, that will hold him back. If Stanford can do better he will emerge eventually. People want to label him a bust. Let's see towards the end of the season if they were right since the day he was picked.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about? Claiming he had a nice game? He was horrible as always from everything I saw. He got faked right out of his cleats by Blake Bortles of all people to lead to that 1st down run Bortles had. He doesn't keep gap integrity ever. He gets annihilated whenever he gets engaged by a lead Guard. Sure, he had a few decent tackles. But for the most part this guy is very much hot garbage and certainly even close to being worth the 20th overall pick.

I've yet to label him a bust but I am labeling him as a bad LB at this point.

Lee might be the best athlete on the Jets defense, maybe the whole team, but he needs to learn so much to be a football player.

Lee thinks far too much and reacts far too late. I think once he gets that together, he'll be a much better LB. That Fournette TD catch, Lee just waited like an extra second or 2, just stood there. Needs to be more proactive.

He had 2 big plays though in this game.

Lee will be fine once we find a role for him. Give the guy some time on the field before we lay down the bust hammer.

he was looking at the QB and got tangled up with others .... he had 7 tackles yesterday, davis had 8. I with the group that says he needs more time and he I believe as others do that he is thinking or maybe he is just daydreaming ... whatever it is, he is "usually" late to the party

He got caught peeping in the cookie jar, and Fournette caught the easiest pass of the day. Needs to do a better job of reading and reacting. He's still very green at linebacker so he needs more time.

I've always been a fan of drafting Lee due to his athletic talents. I for one also understand last year he was a raw rookie and still only 5 games into his second season.

Once the game slows down for Lee (still moving 110 mph) i feel he'll develop into a household name for NY.

Today Lee made a play against the pass and two badass tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

Bottom line is he is completely miscast in a 3-4 and way too undersized. The only time he can make plays is if he is totally untouched. Honestly, I think he just guessed about running through the right gap? The only way Sharron will ever start making consistent plays is when the Jets switch to a 4-3 and Sharron plays OLB.

I think Lee just needs to start being consistent... He goes from Zero to Hero and back to zero on each possession!!
We can't have that from the LB position. You can't consistently be a liability.

1 a game, 2 maybe but not on almost every damn drive..

Guessed? Umm... One of his STRENGTHS coming out was reading and reacting. There was nothing "lucky" about either one of his tackles behind the l.o.s today.

I will say that even though he makes a lot of mistakes, he looks much better than last year. Last year he looked like a total bust. This is the play I was expecting him to have during his rookie year. He just needs to continue to go out there and get better.

For a high Draft pick from a Nat Championship team he is an extremely low average NFL player...

Today I saw some flashes: a pass breakup and a sack

Perhaps trash recycles to at least something that's usable going forward

Jamal Adams and Marcus Mayes have been exposed to Blowes defense for 5 games and they are already making an impact.

We are still making excuses for Lee, the reason we are making excuses is because he is not a good football player, he has physical talent but that's not the part that's failing him, he just doesn't have the instincts or high IQ needed to play the position at the level required.

He isn't the brightest bulb in the pack is he? Has the physical tools and meanness but not the instincts. Made some great hits today though.

Lee needs to be used as a blitzer only. He should not be covering anyone.

I missed my first Jets game in a long time due to work. Did Darron Lee learn to cover anyone today?

DVR the games so you can get a somewhat objective view with the idea that you actually have a clue what to watch for. I watched last weeks game twice and will watch this one later.
Of course don't bother with the next game. I've read here that it's stupid to bother even thinking anything good will happen at all
