not saying he baited him into mayfield specifically, but dorseys master plan could have been barkley at 1 and mayfield at 4 but with the jets hyping him he was forced into mayfield at 1 which allowed the giants to get barkley. Darnold was #1 on the jets board
the media info had to come from somewhere. likely controlled "jets leaks" you have to admit getting info on the jets these days is near impossible compared to the rex/MT days where shit was leaking everywhere. if anything gets out about jets plans now, it's for a reason. TB and Big mac are very tight lipped.
unless barkley wasn't there at 2. Big mac had to ensure cleveland didn't take barkley at 1, by threatening to take their QB at 3 before they pick at 4
The trade up guaranteed that the Jets had the ability to draft one the top 3 QB's, nothing more. How it played out is something that Mac could've only dreamed about. I believe they had Darnold going #1, as did most people, including Darnold. I assume they thought at worst, they'd be choosing between Mayfield and Rosen, never believing they'd be in position at 3 to take Darnold...
They wouldn't have taken Barkley if the Browns got him first. There's SGB's theory - and I think it's plausible - that the Browns wanted to Barkley, and bank on Mayfield being there at 4, and if true, when all the talk about the Jets wanting Mayfield at 3 spooked them into taking Mayfield first, thus allowing Barkley to be there for the Giants. That's why they owe Macc big time.
Macc won the biggest gamble of his professional career yesterday and for that he deserves all the credit in the world. Not many GM's would have put their jobs on the line first by trading huge draft capital to move up and then get the highest rated QB available. Luck certainly had a lot to do with how this draft developed but if it wasn't for Macc stepping out of character and risking everything to get what could be our FQB, we're settling for whatever comes our way. As I've said before: "Fortune favors the bold"... Good Job Macc! All sins forgiven..... for now..
exactly. Dorsey had mayfield as his best QB but also knew that other teams had darnold and rosen and maybe even allen higher. If he could get barkley at 1, and still land his top QB at 4 he would look like a genius getting his top 2 players on his board at 1 and 4. But mac spooked him into grabbing mayfield 1st costing him barkley and he was caught with his pants down at 4 and took ward over chubb and is being ripped a new one in the media over it. meanwhile the jets never had plans to take mayfield, darnold was their number 1, mac just engineered it so he'd fall to them at 3 instead of settling for rosen.
If you pay attention and can read between the lines, it's pretty easy to see. Of course you can not pay attention and just complain about things when people point them out. that's an option as well
show me where i'm making a guess. see how that works? you can add to the discussion if you like, or you know you can do what you are doing as well. I half thought you were fake account created by the jets to hype mayfield. no lie. Teams do that you know? use social media to smoke screen
your WHOLE response was A GUESS... you're making assumptions based on ZERO PROOF/EVIDENCE... Hence... GUESS.
I thought about that, but the emergence of a player is something that almost always happens in a given year. That's why I didn't mention it, but you're right.
had he not emerged form an UDFA to a WR1 in 2 years, our offense would have been much worse. kearse was solid and consistent, but anderson made the defense play soft for fear of his speed and still beat teams over the top easily. he was our playmaker. without him our offense had no explosion or threat of a deep ball
How about that we didn't hear shit from Mehta, Cimini, Costello and the rest them. I don't follow those guys anymore but I think they have been pretty much silenced if I'm not mistaken, and that is a beautiful thing. Mac and Bowles are immune to all that bullshit. They stay focused and just keep pluggin away. That's amazing to me how they stay the course considering the cacophony of bullshit spouted by the media.
One of the great things about this regime is there are no leaks. No circus. No drama. Heck, Cimini has had a lot of good things to say in his recent articles on ESPN.
