No Hell no Maybe, but it would take way more than a 6th rounder. Yes.. But where is he? Seriously, IDK. No. I was actually hoping for Garrard. I think he was a victim of JDR having a panic attack about his inevitable job loss and seeing a Christ like figure in Blaine fuckin Gabbert. Dude was a solid competent QB throughout his career, but alas, not meant to be. But Im heavily in favor of Geno. We know what Sanchez is. Geno's the unknown, starting Sanchez is only going to drag this shit out. Give the season to Geno, the full season, and if it goes down in flames we'll be talking about Johnny Manziel or Teddy Bridgewater. And you know, he could be good... NOBODY saw Russel Wilson or Kapernick as franchise QBs at this time last year.
I think you have to realize Geno was drafted 2nd round, has a very small contract, and he's a backup QB. He won't get any amount of time to prove himself like Sanchez did. If Geno struggles this year we won't see him next year, end of story. Assuming Sanchez starts and stinks, gets pulled in week 5 Geno doesn't have long to prove himself at all, certainly not past this year. If Geno stinks the Jets are making a big move at QB next year.
It's not 1993 anymore. It's a terrible sign (though completely predictable) that this kid can't win the job.
Of course. Smith has 1 season if he starts now and less than 1 season if its Sanchez who gets the nod at first. Jets have draft choices galore and cap room next year. Johnson who is a terrible owner is smart enough to know he will be laughed out of football if he doesn't right the ship QUICKLY in 2014.
I live in the South and if I hear one more person ever try to bitch and moan that Romo sucks I'm going to punch them in the face.
Of course it is, Sanchez has been awful and Smith can't even compete with him. Smith is a 2nd rounder, he has probably half a season to cement his position as the Jets future, he has to be outstanding when he starts or he's out of a job next year.
I understand that, but most aren't giving him this year but just one preseason game. see what i mean? Be Great IMMEDIATELY or GTFO. thats stupid, we can;t just give up on him because of this game. he wasn't even irredeemably bad, just raw and in need of time... how much is likely within 2013 but we can get of our stupid sticks and stop calling him a bust because he could immediately separate himself.
When you're a 2nd round pick and can't beat out statistically the worst QB of the last four years, the odds of you ever getting crowned the jets future dwindle each and every game, even pre-season. He's a backup, some backups never get more than the pre-season. Simms looks more game ready than Geno, not what you hope for from a guy who was slated to go top 10. Basically as a 2nd round pick backup QB in the NFL you HAVE to be great immediately or GTFO.
Why can't Geno be somewhere in the middle and then improve as the season goes along? Geno won't get the same leeway as Sanchez, but to act like Geno will suck because of 1 preseason game is ridiculous.
What's the protocol for next week? I know they usually play backups 3rd and 4th stringers but is there a chance they let Geno back out there again?
You're either young or not a Jets fan. Not sure which. Terrible owners are what the Browns and Redskins and Cardinals have. Guys who slink from mediocre to bad and back again without anybody much noticing because their teams are rarely good enough to notice. The Jets used to have a terrible owner who was by all accounts also a very good man. They slunk from mediocre to bad and back again in the full blaring circus that is the NY tabloid media. It was an ugly thing to deal with as a Jets fan. Now we have a pretty good owner all things considered, who has done a pretty good job of keeping the Jets relevant in a decade in which the Giants have won two Super Bowls and a brand new stadium has opened up that again is home to both of them. Do you remember being second-class tenants in the Meadowlands? Not if you're young or not a Jets fan. Do you remember 1 playoff appearance in 11 seasons? 5 playoff appearances in 27 seasons? Not if you're young or not a Jets fan. I'm not happy with the state of the Jets right now but I'm also pretty sure things are going to get better again, even if we have another off-season before things start to brighten. That optimism is based on the fact that whenever the Jets have gone into a trough during the current owner's tenure they have figured a way out of it in fairly short order. This time around it looks like they're taking the long-view and that's where we're most likely to get a really good result.
thats my point, do all rookie QB's need to be Luck to be worth more than a glance? thats not a wining model to me. It doesn't have to be so extreme,we don;t need to give an inconsistent player 5 years but we don't need to throw in the towel so soon either. he can't even be inconsistent, it hasn't been long enough.
This is the problem I've had with a lot of the Geno proponents to begin with. Too much emphasis is being placed on short term / individual performances. NFL careers, particularly for high draft picks (fourth round and higher), are a marathon, not a sprint. Everyone wants Geno to sprint due to insecurity concerning what to do in next year's draft. The story hasn't even been written yet and already the fans are projecting the world to end. This fan base is clinically depressed.
Not after what happened with Sanchez and all the ripping Rex has gotten and will continue to get all week.
I have been a Jet fan since 1967. We have not had a good owner since Sonny Werblin. You are deluded if you think Woody Johnson is any good as an owner. He is a publicity hound. Team is 0-14 under him getting to the SB since he bought the team from the Hess family.
I feel like Junc predicted this thread. It is sad that one preseason game is all it takes..... /Smith is a rookie /Sanchez is mediocre Everybody chill.....
Why trade for someone, why not just look on our roster and let Sims start next week and play the whole game. I mean who else do we have anyways? If he looks good, shock the world and let him start week one. The love we would get from the media and all his dad's friends would be great.
Exactly, look at Russell Wilson last year. He started off iffy then got better as the season progressed. I'm not expecting Geno to be THAT good, but if he has a decent year (18 td's, 12 INT's, 57% completion) while visibly making marked improvement as the season goes on, then sign me up for that. You're right and I think Jets fans want to see a decent amount of film on Geno so we know what we have in him. It's just those that think that if he isn't RGIII or Luck then he's a bust are the ones I have a problem with.
