I feel they are going with Katnick he came from a big time program. If Mangold is on the board they still might take him and move Katnick to guard. If they get lucky and get Wiiliams at 4 then they can go corner or line backer at 29 if the o line is set.
Statements like this are so ridiculous. He sucked??? How can you back that up he played six games and played the same way he always played. The team sucked that for sure but Mawae play like Mawae always played. I think it is ridiculous that people act as if he is washed up
You must have missed the fact that he couldn't even exchange the ball with Chad or Vinny, that the middle of our line was like a parkway for the DL when he was in and we lost 2 QB when he was playing. I know how good Mawae was for years and last year he wasn't that guy, he was a guy barely hanging on.
I agree. If the FO thinks there is a better player out there at 29, I wouldn't be surprised if they passed up Mangold. Katnik played every position on the O-line in college. Not many guys have the ability and smarts to handle that (especially in a big time college program). Sounds like a Mangini guy to me.
The only player that might be a better pick at 29 would IMO be Bobby Carpenter, if he was still available. Still, I like the pass rushers that we can find in later rounds, more than I like the later round centers. So Id still pick Mangold
You never know though. The FO may see something in someone that we don't. It's a long shot but it could happen. With that said, I love the idea of drafting Mangold and giving Katnik a go at guard.
Like i said earlier Mangold is to good to pass on. If you want a natural edge pass rusher look for Stanley McClover. He as tremendous speed and can get to the QB. They can get him in rd 3.
as already posted, i like Mangold at center and Katnik at guard. LT- Adrian Jones LG- Pete Kendall C- Nick Mangold RG- Norm Katnik RT- Eric Winston/Ryan OCallaghan
i would be very happy if the old man came out and said this: with the 29nt pick in the NFL draft, the New york jets select Nick Mangold, Center, Ohio state
