"Beg". You keep saying this and it further shows your lame agendum. Some anonymous source says that he asked to go on scouting trips and you say he begged to go on scouting trips. But yeah, you "hope he does well with the Jets". Give me a break, you are transparent.
He didn't beg, don't be silly. Idzik was the #3 most powerful man in the Seahawks building, he he didn't beg for shit. If you think Idzik wasn't a major factor in that team building process you are mistaken. He, Carroll, and Schneider all reported to the CEO individually, because he valued all of their opinions respectively. Idzik had the third most say in the organization, you really think they didn't get his opinion on players?
He was reported as being extremely ambitious. To me that means he kissed major bootie. If he was so great at eyeing talent why was he sentenced to (at least) 3+ years of cap duty late in his career? Bc i guess we can all agree that is a fact right. That was blatantly reported in the Seattle paper? Why was he assigned to cap duty if he was such an extraordinary scout. And I'm a huge Jets fan .... Of course I hope he does well. Duh. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Obviously he has been more relied most heavily upon as a cap specialist and operations manager as specified numerous times already. I don't think that has ever been under dispute.
Here is #1 when it comes to the ethics of anonymous sources, identify sources whenever feasible.#2 Always question sources’ motives before promising anonymity. It seems sports writers these days overuse anonymous sources to be able to write articles meant to stir things up not actually report facts. I won't call most of them journalists since they have long ago left that realm so no need to post any "educational material". It wouldn't help you anyway since your problem is acceptance that Idzik was in fact involved in player evaluations.
Show me proof that Idzik was 3rd in command in those Seattle war rooms and on personnel decisions (signings, cuts, trades, etc) and I will admit being wrong and withdraw every statement I ever made about Idzik being a cap guy first and foremost. #proofchallenge Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
I did read a quote where a Seattle front office guy was asked if John Idzik deserves credit for drafting Russell Wilson. The answer was spmething like .... No, absolutely not, no way, he had nothing to do with that (one of those exact phrases) .. so hard to give him SB credit if he had absolutely nothing to do with a decision to draft their franchise QB ...... Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Maybe in your own personal experience, you had to kiss peoples' asses to get ahead, and that's why it means that to you. That probably says more about you than it does John Idzik. Aside from some wormy anonymously sourced quotes in a Gary Myers (aka worm) article, it appears that he is universally respected by former co-workers and employers, and those of us that have been respected in our employment know that kissing ass and begging isn't the only way to realize ambition. He was steered toward cap management by Rich McKay because he was astounding with numbers and it shows wherever he went, but McKay specifically stated that he felt responsible for slowing his career down when he could have forged more of a niche in the scouting realm. Nobody is saying he was an extraordinary scout, however there are people who are saying that he had nothing to do with scouting, which is patently false.
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/lupica-jets-gm-idzik-sea-future-article-1.1329470 "You start here with John Idzik, the new Jets general manager: He comes to them from the Seattle Seahawks, who might have more talent right now, on both sides of the ball, than any team in the NFL. Idzik wasn’t the only guy in the room there, but he was sure one of them, along with general manager John Schneider and Pete Carroll, the coach." http://blogs.seattletimes.com/seahawks/2013/01/18/report-john-idzik-named-jets-gm/ "Tod Leiweke, then the team’s CEO, created a structure in which three different people — Idzik, Carroll and general manager John Schneider — reported up the CEO rather than the previous chain of command in which coaches and vice presidents reported up to the president, who was previously Ruskell."
No, you read an article where you assume "a source" means a Seattle front office guy, because it doesn't specify who "a source" is. Here's the sticky part of basing your argument on an article that is based entirely on vague anonymous sources. You can't really vouch for what capacity that invisible person worked in. Or even if they worked for Seattle at all. And this is the article you are talking about, because aside from that one snippet article from Seattle, this is the only article you have talked about: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...stick-flawed-formula-article-1.1242850?pgno=1 Yep, the same rag printed by Gary Myers.
Absorbing the Idzik stories in their totality I just have a feeling he is a weasel type. The Jets front office ppl who are already fed up with his unprofessional negotiating tactics .... I just get the feeling that he was a kiss ass. And there's nothing wrong with that .... Everyone knows yiu have to make nice with higher ups to get ahead in corporate America. Does the opposite ever work? Does hard work without ambitious politicking ever lead to good promotions? No, very rarely. Kudos to Idzik he climbed the ladder and now has his dream job can't hate on the guy. My only point here is that i don't think he is a talent evaluator ... I think he is trying to learn more in that area. But I don't consider him to be an Ozzie Newsome type GM. He's a Mike Tannenbaum type GM. Nothing wrong with that I think Tanny was better than ppl gave him credit for ..... But Terry Bradway and company still run the draft, otherwise he would have been fired. Bradway was a horrid GM but he is a decent personnel evaluator. We just need his team to strike gold in the later rounds finally. But a Seattle exec was quoted as saying Idzik had no input in drafting Russell Wilson .... That tells me he had no draft input period. Just my opinion Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Maybe so .... I forgot which article I caught that in .... But wouldn't someone who said that be a person who was in the room???? Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
These quotes tell me next to nothing in regards to Idzik's place in the personnel decision making hierarchy. He reported to the CEO ... Okay. Wasnt Jay Cross the CEO of the Jets at one time? What does that even mean ..... He was a "guy in the room" .... Great he had a seat with probably about 20-30 other guys in the war room. I've seen war room cams. Who's making the decisions ??? Who had strong input during draft debates. Im not getting any of that from these quotes. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
No Seattle Exec ever said that. It was anonymous source look it up. Show me anywhere that says the Jets front office people are fed up with John Idzik's tactics.
Okay maybe true ... But I believe the source. That kind of stuff is not made up. Why would someone throw him under the bus if it wasn't true? Clearly the source was in the room. I would hope, but have no reason to doubt. And as for the criticism of these sources ... There's one way to guarantee getting blacklisted in your profession .... Start publicly throwing ppl under the bus. I would be shocked if someone Still in the biz put their name to that statement about Idzik having zero input when drafting Wilson Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Maybe we should start a poll cause all this stuff is giving me vertigo, and not the good kind described in the U2 song .... Poll: who is most responsible for Jets draft room boards and rankings: A. John Idzik B. Rex Ryan C. Coordinators and Position Coaches D. Terry Bradway and his squadron of SCOUTS. MY opinion, they all have a collective voice, but I think Terry Bradway and his peeps are most responsible for their draft board, evaluations, and player rankings. I believe that at the end of the day, the decision making team will defers to Bradway's ppls board and rankings as per Idziks policy (which I love btw ALWAYs been a fan of BPA). So my main point is that Idzik is not the scouting God or the main trigger man on draft day). It's the scouting dept folks. Idzik was hired mainly bc of his cap expertise and woody kept Bradway and company to lead the evaluations. Why even debate this? It seems so obvious to me. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
