I'd like to see what happens in Seattle with their QB situation and see if they cut Whitehurst. I'm not sure of his contract or whatever but he'd be my pick over what's left to pick from. I say wait and see who becomes available as teams start making cuts.
If we get a RT we shouldnt need a backup. ...just saying And for the record I was always 100% dead against the signing of Brunell, "the bum". Obviously we need a legit replacement if something ever did happen. Knock on wood, nothing will ever happen that physically hampers #6.
Just throwing this out there... How about drafting Russell Wilson??? He will probably fall to the later rounds and he looked really good in college..
Tebow Whoever suggested Tebow has the right idea. If the Broncos were to release him due to Peyton, I would love to have Tebow. Tebow could be a great Brad Smith type player for the Jets, and could run our run-oriented offense ifSanchez were to go down.
I would love Weeden. Sadly without the Sanchez contract extension he could have potentially started for us this year. But with the extension I don't see how he works for us. But moving past that it is unlikely he will still be there when we pick in the 2nd round. There has been some buzz the last few weeks that he has been climbing up many teams draft charts. The drawback on Weeden is his age, he will be 29 in October. With Sanchez's extension it is likely he would not start for us 2 years or until he is 30-31. Sadly he is probably not a good fit for us as he is a guy that is ready to play right now. Rather we need a guy that can play this year is Sanchez struggles again or is injured. A secondary need is a developmental guy that can sit a few years. Which might be McElroy. Manish Mehta said that if we signed Quinn he would compete for 3rd QB with McElroy and we would still look at getting a number 2 like Stanton.
Id be surprised if Weeden is drafted in the 2nd. I think hes a surefire third rounder. In any case, he's younger than his age because he took several years off from football. That's important.
Mcelroy + minimum contract 6th or 7th round pick= excellent QB2 tandem option. Why waste a single dollar on a guy that will never see the field if our team is to have any chance? Especially when Mcelroy already showed some ability to get the job done. You know what I think? I'll tell you what I think. Here it comes. I'll bet you hate me now. Haha. Ok, but seriously. This is what I think. Tanny is just playing with you all's heads and hearts just like he did with Peyton Manning. He's just gently playing on your heartstrings courting these wonderful quarterbacks whom would so greatly satisfy your inner Sanchez hater to see on the roster. The type of quarterback Tanny knows he will NEVER put on the roster this year. Not with these salary woes. But mustn't tell the infants. Must make them think they have a chance to play with the new toy in their brains. Then **KERPOW** Tanny crashes all hope away just when you're feeling the happiest by backing out of the player of interest. Tanny quietly guarantees Sanchez's job for an extra year and retains McElroy as the 2nd option saving resources to more pressing areas. Another PR masterpiece conducted by yours truly, me. No I meant Mike Tannenbaum. Definitely him.
Does anybody seriously think that any of the following are better than Sanchez? McElroy, Quinn, Stanton Put your Sanchez hate aside, none of these guys are better. There is a reason they are being considered as backups. If they were better than Mr. T would've given them a contract and Sanchez and pay cut.
If Mcelroy is "ready" then Chad is the perfect move. He could mentor Sanchez and Mcelroy, he knows the offense and he would be great for the 10-20 plays he'd get in before being injured if Mark goes down. If it's not going to be Chad, you ideally want someone who can step in and win games if something happens to Sanchez. In that case I'd take Garrard or Stanton. After that would be Quinn. I'm not crazy about the QB's after that (Grossman, Delhomme, Carr, Young). If I had to pick from that group I'd probably take Carr or Young. To those mentioning Tebow, that would be awesome for some Brad Smith stuff with more of a ground and pound feel, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Tebow go to Jacksonville. Even though the GM there doesn't want him, the new owner does. He will probably go where he has the best chance to start, and behind Henne and Gabbart with a fan base that loves you is a pretty good place to be.
