Eli is a really good QB. Expectations were too high on him to start. I find it very interesting that he finally reached those expectations once Tiki and Shockey were out of that huddle.
I think it's time to let the young guys battle it out. The o-line and running game is prime for a young QB to succeed. Let the 3 battle it out in TC and see who steps up, then revolve the offense around it's strength and commit to the run.
FA would be Matt Cassel, no Garcia please! The Draft pick would be Tebow because he would bring excitement whcih means ticket sales. Plus like mentioned the best two would already be gone by pick 16-17. I personnel don't want Cassel unless we get McDaniels as the HC. Take Cassele out of his current offense and he may be less than average. Tebow would be exciting to watch but he is nothing more than a slightly slower Vick. For our current QBs, we gave Clemens eight games last year to see what he could do and hen an offseason to show improvement and he had nothing to show. I say goodbye to Clemens. Let Brett R & Eric A fight it out for the starting QB.
I loved how Ratliff looked for us in preseason. Yes he played against 2nd and 3rd string defenses but he had the same quality to work with on offense. Not saying Ratliff should be handed anything but I'd love to see him get an equal oppurtunity to compete
Tebow will probably stay in school and if he doesn't he may not have a lot of interest in the NFL anyway. It's not what makes him tick. That is one reason he is projected as a 2nd or third round pick. Cassell will never end up in the AFC east so he isn't even worth talking about. I can see the Jets with Anderson, I doubt they will go with a rookie in the final PSL sales year. Another trade may be possible or Favre could be back too.
PLease dont draft a QB in the first round, We should just use what we have and pray this huge offensive line can help whoever we put back there. Save our draft picks for our needs and future depths on the lines.
If the Jets waste a draft pick on that sorry ass Tebow, I'll puke. Florida QBs are garbage. Case in point; Rex Grossmen, Danny Wuerffel, Shane Matthews, Jesse Palmer and don't forget my personal favorite, Brian Schottenheimer(has nothing to do with this arguement, but easy way to pick on the scum bag) Let the Lions draft Tebow, they're used to shitty drafts. You guys can mull over this for the next 6 months if you want. The ONLY option we have at QB, IF WE WANNA WIN NOW, is Favre. Like it or not.
Are you serious? - Favre wasn't even a viable this option this season , the NE win was the only game that he made a difference in all season. This team is not gonna win now -- like or not we are in rebuilding mold. This team needs a QB , #1 WR , Blocking TE , Power Runner, 2 DE's and 2DB's and about 4 new Linebackers. Some guys this board is mistakenly too high on, ok starters but not stars or top 15 Rhodes - Not what you all think he is Harris - Didn't come close to looking like the player he was last year TJ - decent rusher (led AFC) but not a dominant power runner that can take over a game plus getting old Jenkins - I watched him alot in Carolina ,Better 4-3 DT than Nose, getting old D'Brick - absolutely poor run blocking skills , although his sacks against appear low still gets manhandeledd by strong pass rushers Guys that start or get playing time that just need to go. Brad Smith Brandon Moore Bryan Thomas Chris Baker Wallace Wright Kenyan Coleman Calvin Pace if we stay in the 3-4 , Could be a 4-3 End The Whole Secondary except for Revis, Elam and Rhodes
Mark Sanchez is the guy to draft if he declares. Good arm, athletic, mobility, good decision-making, and he plays in a Pro offense at USC. I think Sanchez will be the best QB from this draft if he declares.
There is a lot wrong with this post. We did a great job running behind Brandon Moore especially in short yardage situations. There is no way I want him gone. Wallace Wright is a Special Teams superstar. You don't get rid of players like that. Lowery showed a lot at the beginning of the season. With a year under his belt I fully expect him to keep developing. D'Brick was much improved in his run blocking skills, and I didn't see him get over powered in by strong pass rushers this year. We don't know if we need a new QB yet. We have 3 young guys on the roster. David Harris was injured most of the season. He'll be fine in '09. I agree we need to get younger at RB, but Jones still has one more productive season left in him. The only things I really agree with you on is that we need a #1 WR and we need to upgrade or DE's. And maybe release Bryan Thomas.
I hope this is a joke. 1) Every team has problems. With a strong draft, the Jets could absolutely contend next year. Favre fell apart at the end of the season, and our Run defense suffered because Jenkins got injured. 2) Why the hell would we let Brad Smith or Wallace Wright go? Smith is a big playmaker when used correctly (Wildcat/End around/Screens), and Wright let the AFC in Special Teams tackles. Makes absolutely no sense to let either of them go.
Brad Smith --- Should have been let go last year. Brandon Moore --- Never did fit on the line always got burnt Bryan Thomas -- NOW he can really take it easy ( CYA ) Chris Baker --- Just was never used, Keller is the TE Wallace Wright --- Never turned into what they expected Kenyan Coleman --- Just gets BURNED all the time Calvin Pace if we stay in the 3-4 , Could be a 4-3 End ( I HOPE WE KEEP HIM - Love his motor and he never stops ) The Whole Secondary except for Revis, Elam and Rhodes --- ( AGREED )
That would probably require taking a step back for a year and the media and Woody are not willing to actually build a team that can win the right way by grooming a QB. All that matters is Psl's and making the first rd of the playoffs. They have forgotten the Sb is the real goal.
Brad Smith - Outstanding special teams player that adds some depth at WR and poses a threat with trick plays from time to time. His presence on special teams is necessary and we felt it when he was injured. Brandon Moore - Was very good in run blocking this year. Most of our big runs went right through the RG spot. Bryan Thomas - His contract should be restructured but I wouldn't ditch him until we know we have a replacement. Baker - CYA Wallace Wright - You're joking - another outstanding special teamer. We NEED these guys. Kenyon Coleman - Nothing more than an average 3-4 DE, but again - please show me his replacement before you show him the door.
Yeah, no fire. I recall him celebrating like a kid in a candy store against miami on that TD pass to coles. Or, does that not count as fire? I recall him amped the hell up against Tennsee and NE on the road, or does that not count. He has the fire. He's always been calm and honest in his press conferences: He's completely different in the locker room and on the field. He is a leader: There isn't a single player questioning favre's leadership in the locker room: Heck, even T.Jones comments, even out of context were more or less knocks against the coaching staff for not doing something about Favre's play. Either benching him, or trying toa ctually COACH brett, instead of letting brett sit on a island. This year of all years, on a new team, Favre needed coaching and didn't get it.
The obsession with Favre is nuts. What does he have to do with this post. It's about if Favre retires, what do we do. We know you think Favre is the anti-christ.
We give Kellen and Ratliff a real chance like other winning programs do and if that means we lose for a year to find a Qb of the future via our own or knowing if we have to draft one next year so be it. We will lose again next year or the next two but the reality is we will eventyally have to find our Qb. We can do it now or later but we will do it and no Sb will come before it.
AFAIK there is no way NE could afford to franchise him with Brady's massive salary and other top earners on the roster.
I don't understand why some people keep saying that "Ratliff was only good because he played against backups". Wasn't Ryan, and Flacco only good against college players, before this season? Isn't the next crop of rookies coming out? They look for certain criteria like poise in the pocket, not locking onto one reciever, reading coverages, leadership, etc, when looking at QB's. I think we've got a guy on the roster that shows some of these traits. Ratliff. Everyone's biggest bitch about him is that he has never been successful against 1st string NFL players. Well, if your gonna use that as an arguement, then Ryan, and Flacco, and Cassel, shoulda been kept on the bench. We need a coach that can develope a young QB, or at least get a QB coach who can. The problem with us as fans is, we always think we need another teams player, to improve our team, when imo, we've got someone on the roster worth giving a shot. Let's build the team the way we wanted to, before Favre come along. A ball control offense, with focus on the running game. If a guy who hadn't played a game since HS, could come along and look like the 2nd coming of Brady, then i think Ratliff deserves a shot.
