Least: Mike Nugent (self explanatory), Kyle Brady (I remember mimicking my father yelling about not getting Sapp), Calvin Pryor (I wanted Brandin Cooks), Jace Amaro (There were so many WRs in that draft I liked and we got him. I was PISSED) Most: Revis (my all time favorite Jet), Vilma (there was no doubti n my mind he'd be good), Shonn Greene, Jeremy Kerley (he was a dynamic returner in college )
First, let me say every draft under Rex Ryan turned out like soggy shit. Least favorite pick and a huge waste, especially since we traded up to get him was Dewayne Robertson in 2003. The Patriots suckered us by telling everyone they wanted him. Most excited pick I can remember the Jets making was Chad Pennington in 2000. Couldn't believe he was still there and we actually got him.
biggs i know all that stuff..... my issue is how can these self proclaimed expert team executives be so easily fooled and sacrifice a second round pick for a non-position player? thats crazy. i dont care if we missed 5 fg's against pitt.
Least favorite 1. 2014 Calvin Pryor - Never jumped off the screen to me and the last thing we needed was a box safety. Horrible, horrible pick. 2. 2015 Leonard Williams - At the time I just didn't see the need in Williams and I am more of a need person than a BPA believer, thus why I'm on here and not employed by an NFL organization. Boy was I wrong after everything that transpired with Richardson and Wilkerson. 3. 2012 Quenton Coples - I wanted Melvin Ingram. Didn't hate Coples, but I wanted Ingram. Favorite 1. 2000 Chad Pennington, Anthony Becht, John Abraham and Shaun Ellis - Loved watching Pennington to Moss connections when Marshall was on TV. I was 12 going on 13 and loved the amount of picks we had. 2. 2006 D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Nick Mangold - Got to meet D'Brick at the Jets draft party afterwords and we needed to beef up the OL badly. Watched Mangold destroy my Wolverines and thought he'd be a good (although not as good as he turned out to be) player. 3. 2001 Santana Moss - Back when The U was fun to watch and Moss tore apart college defenses. Thought he'd give us that big play ability, and he did. 4. 2017 Jamal Adams - I watch a lot of SEC football these days and Adams always stood out on the screen in those big LSU games. 5. 2004 Jonathan Vilma - Again, back when The U was fun to watch and he was a tackling machine.
Least favorite: quinton coples...i just remember reacting terribly to this pick. I don’t even remember why. Actually I think bc I wanted Melvin Ingram. Most favorite: I’m embarrassed to say this but geno Smith. I was elated when he “fell” to us and was jumping for joy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
"Terry.... you gimme a good kicker, and we're in the SUPER BOWL!! YOU SEE THAT GAME?!? A good kicker and we're there! Nah, why hand it off to our HOF bound running back when you're in a spot to get 3 points?! YOU KICK TO WIN THE GAME!!!.....HELLLOOO.....It's called FOOT - ball for a reason....GET IT DONE TERRY!!.... "
While 2006 was great (stocked class) and they made some good moves in 2007....... The dude had the WORST draft pick in the history of shitty JETS draft picks on his watch (and can be argued one of the worst draft picks in NFL history).... that negates alot
The Nugent pick could have been okay-- The kid was team MVP at OSU as a kicker. If he turned out to be the next Janikowski, or even the next Pat Leahy and given us 15 or 20 years of consistent kicking, a second round pick would have been well spent. It would have helped appearances tremendously if the Jets had held onto their first pick and taken Heath Miller (the guy I wanted, who was available at their pick)--I'm sure Nugent would have lasted 10 more spots and we still could have taken him instead of Justin Miller. It really looks worse because he was our top pick, but it doesn't help that he just isn't that good at kicking and is now on his 7th NFL team. The problem with that draft, IMHO, wasn't the Nugent pick, it was the Jolley trade.
And to think that if Coples didn't get hurt and came out a year earlier they were talking about him being a top 5 pick IIRC
Agree. In addition, when you have a strong team as the Jets did that year, that's when you have the luxury to look at your roster and try to upgrade at non-impact positions like kicker, OG, safety, etc. at the top of the draft. If the Jets had been 6-10 instead, then it would have been a terrible choice.
I disagree. I dont care if he's the greatest kicking talent ever - - you dont waste a high pick on a kicker, ever. ALSO, nugent wasn't the greatest kicking talent ever anyway
Picks I loved on draft night: -Mark Sanchez (I was desperate, but in hindsight, he lacked the necessary experience to succeed) -Kellen Clemens (Thought he was a steal) -Vernon Gholston (Woof) -Jonathan Vilma -Darelle Revis -David Harris -Chad Pennington -Jamal Adams (Didn't love Mahomes or Watson) -D’Brickashaw Ferguson -Nick Mangold Picks I hated on draft night: -Dee Miliner -Christian Hackenberg -Sheldon Richardson -Bryon Thomas -Marcus Maye -Kyle Wilson -Mike Nugent
1996 Draft, first pick of the second round-- are you glad we took Alex Van Dyke (42 Games, 1 Start, 219 Yards, 3 TDs and 1 brutal fumble)? Perhaps you would have been happier with Adam Vinatieri (22 years in the NFL, 84.3% FG, 98.2% PAT, 4 Super Bowl Rings, 6 Super Bowl Appearances, 2,487 Points)? Maybe I'm crazy, but I'd make that trade in the time machine right now. You can't tell me that guy isn't a primary factor in some of those rings, either. The guy kicks game winners to get his team in the super bowl, and he kicked two game winners in the super bowl. That's not worth a 2nd round pick to you?
Adam Vinatieri is better than Alex Van Dyke, sure. But no way should he have been a 2nd round pick. The fact that he was undrafted tells you all need to know. You can find a great kicker as a UDFA. Why the hell should you ever draft one?
Did you forget how Bradway became GM and Herm Head Coach? Woody Johnson let Bob Kraft steal BB from the Jets. Groh had enough after 1 year. Hess didn't care and Johnson is incompetent. That's why we drafted a kicker in the 2nd round.
Can't lie, I loved the Sanchez pick. We gave up so little to get him. Unfortunately, reality bit me that he would be nothing more than a game manager who can occasionally make big plays even during the first 2 years when we went to back to back AFC Championship games. The less he did, the better off we were most of the time.
Lot of people were fooled on Gholston. Horrible pick, Jets have had many of them. his other 2 drafts were arguably the best jets drafts ever with exception of I believe 1977 if i remember the year
