Yeah, we keep hiring these retread NFL coaches with experience. Give me an unknown with wild ideas. I’m half joking about Penny, a QB coach for sure. The other half says go for it, what’s the worst that could happen? What’s nubs do you mean?
I notice that a lot of Super Bowls have been won by guys named Bill and Mike. Let's give Bill Cosby a shot ... or Mike Tyson. Picking a coach that way makes as much sense as they way we do it now.
Bienemy Arthur Smith I would even take a look at Garrett because he turned an undrafted Romo into a borderline HOFer and look at Dak who was another late round pick.
A possible replacement. https://www.musiccitymiracles.com/2...d-among-25-potential-head-coaching-candidates
Eric Bieniemy for obvious reasons. He's now in his 3rd year as OC under Andy Reid and is currently coaching the best QB in the NFL. Arthur Smith's job with Tannehill and that Titans offensive is impressive and speaks for itself. And finally, you can't truly have a head coach thread without Jim Harbaugh being mentioned.
I want someone who has been a HC, even at the college level. They need to have the experience of running an entire program and not learning it OJT as we've been hiring guys to do.
I'd rather have Bieniemy or Riley, but another possibility might be Green Bay's OC, Nathaniel Hackett. https://www.packers.com/team/coaches-roster/nathaniel-hackett https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathaniel_Hackett From 2013 through 2018 he coached under Doug Marrone. In 2013-2014 it was with the Bills as OC. In 2013 the Bills were ranked #2 in rushing. From 2015-2018 it was with the Jaguars, first as QB Coach, then OC. In 2017 his offense was ranked #5 and they were #1 in rushing. Last year with GB his offense was ranked #15. This year his offense is leading the league in points scored, yards per game, rushing yards, and rushing yards per game.
Two options find a good College Coach and roll the dice like Zona Or lure Cowher Marriucci or Jimmy Johnson out of retirement Longshots ...but got nothing to lose This is a Business ..show me a winning record for the same job And yes CJ blew it passing on McCarthy
I don't agree. I want to see what Joe Douglas will do in the next few years. We can't be sure but he might be a legendary GM. I rather have a good GM for long term than any HC.
I'll take any HC that can beat top NFL teams, on the road, with THIS roster!!! (What??? There aren't any??? DANG!)
If the Johnson's allow the front office to make this pick (which they should), look for someone with the Ravens/Eagles connection: -Marvin Lewis (Ravens w/ Douglas) -Jim Caldwell (Ravens) -Mike Nolan (Ravens) -Gary Kubiack (Ravens) -Jim Schwartz (Eagles) These are just some names that have HC experience and are from those offices. I would bet we hear these names mentioned when that time comes.
But that's what we've got now. Also, we did the same thing with Rich Kotite. In fact, the only prior head coach who's had success with the Jets was Parcells. My thought is this: Either a guy has got what it takes to be a head coach, or he doesn't. Prior experience doesn't usually matter. I just want the right guy for the job. It doesn't have to be a former head coach, or an offensive genius, or defensive guru...just a guy who knows football, knows how to use his players, and knows how to tailor his team to use its strengths.
I'm not saying that my only criteria is that he has HCing experience. He has to have a proven track record of success wherever he's been. And must have shown a grasp of offensive football and what it takes to build an offense-driven team. That doesn't mean he can't have been a defensive guy most of his career, as you mentioned Parcells was, but he needs to show that he understand the CRITICAL nature of offense in the modern game. And to reiterate, I'm not saying he needs to have been an NFL HC, but by being a college HC he will have proven he can handle the complexities of the HC job. I don't know how you can determine if "A guy either has what it takes to be a HC or he doesn't" without him having done the job at some point in the past. Sure, you can always roll the dice on yet another "hot" DC or OC, but how many times have the Jets done that and shot craps? But whoever it is, I want Douglas making that decision, for better or worse.
