Jim Harbaugh and Lincoln Riley are likely out without giving full control, which we should certainly not be doing. The jury is obviously still out but Joe Douglas(hopefully still Darnold too) just may be the only good thing the Jets have going for themselves. He needs to have full control to bring whoever it is he thinks is the best choice to be the next HC. If Joe D is as good as everyone suspects he will be and we all hope then the Jets won’t be as far away as they feel right now. That means hiring the right HC as well as nailing this past draft and the next one. If he’s not though.. oh boy we will be in for another decade of misery.
I think we will be lucky to win 3 games tbh.. if you look at some of my past posts I try to be optimistic but I also call it as I see it... if you look at our schedule it’s really tough and our team looks really bad. Sam is going to get beaten worse than a red haired step child by SF... He’ll be lucky to get out of that game without injury.
Duce Staley is another name to consider. Currently assistant HC for Philly and that was Douglas' last stop.
Ha. Imagine a coach of the Jets lasting 9 years (without winning a SB). My man would need to win the division every year and go deep into the playoffs. Basically be the Jim Kelly Bills.
I didn't say he was perfect. The Johnsons hire first time/rookie GMs mistakes should be expected. That's why I now say to stay the course with Douglas/Gase/Williams.
If we can get Harbaugh or Riley, and they want total control, I'm sending Douglas packing in a heartbeat.
We should hire a football coach that coaches football. No more specialists. No more coordinators who ignore a side of the ball. Hire a guy to coach football. Let the offensive coordinator call the offensive plays. Let the defensive coordinator call the defensive plays. Advise them on adjustments. Don't take stupid timeouts. Challenge plays correctly. Fire the team up and keep them discipline.
I wouldn't have wanted to hire Matt Rhule to that big long contract with full team control. He had one good year against a garbage Big 12 schedule and they barely won 3-4 of those games. We'll see what happens with him in Carolina. I'd rather we fire Gase this year than have Rhule for 6.
Somebody tell me why with a young highly touted quarterback who has always been identified as someone who needs coaching the Jets are among only three teams in the NFL that does not have a coach designated to the quarterbacks. There is only one person responsible for this decision. How's that for judgement?
You'd be willing to give complete control to someone who hasn't coached in the NFL? That's a big risk IMO. I'm all for Riley as HC, but only in that capacity.
Isn't he a DEF coach?? I don't get it. I'm not a fan of Garrett and not advocating for him but he's done more with the giants offense in the first half of this game than Gase has with ours in 17 games
He's the offensive coordinator under Andy Reid. I was just thinking about how Garrett will be strongly considered by the Johnson's. Which I definitely don't want.
I'm all for anyone not named Gase but didn't Bienemy interview for a lot of jobs and not get hired? Wonder what's up with that...
For one he fits the Rooney Rule. That could check off a couple of teams. Otherwise, I'm not sure. It's tough to analyze disciples of great head coaches. Andy Reid calls the plays and obviously has big influence on the quarterback and offense. These are mostly all good coaches except from Shurmur. Wilks was awful too but that's off Rivera's tree.
