Actually I think Tanny thought he could cover both the short term/win now approach with a longer term one, which is why they picked Sanchez. The problem is they hoped they could throw him in there as a rookie, and lo and behold they got as far as the Champ game with that approach. And back next year. One game short each year. Of course Sanchez's limitations were key in falling short, not so much in the CHamp games but in terms of regular season record and worse playoff seedings. But now we seem at least through four games to have Sanchez developing too slowly, and the vets falling by the way side. The corps group of solid players is still there, but the rest of the team is falling short.
I think there is flawed thinking that starts at the top. The Jets hadn't had any problem selling out the stadium for a long time. The PSL issue is insane as is close to $100 to sit in the next neighborhood. Beginning with Farve we began a star attraction draw mentality. While some have been good acquisitions the Jets have neglected other areas notably the O line. We also have let too many good players go to save a buck and kept others for no other reason than they were cheap. Everyone should have realized that a shortened training camp was going to cause injuries but we did next to nothing in anticipation of that. I have to give Callahan a pass because I don't believe he is responsible for the lack of depth. You can try all you want but you can't make shit shine. Rex needs to get a bit of Buddy in him and go off on Schotty during a game. Rex is the head coach and needs to assume the role in total. Personally if I owned the Jets I would give Mike Westhoff a 5 million bonus and give him complete control of the team. He's the only person I fully trust on the coaching staff.
For the record, I didn't vote. I believe the blame for our current problems is shared by the front office, coaching staff, and players. I object to inclusion of the phrase "[t]his won't end well." That was unnecessary and stupid. I still believe in this team.
It was absolutely necessary and quite astute. Put the koolaid jug down for a minute, look at the trending, and you might start to see a pattern here. Its been going on for a long time going back over the last 3 seasons with the personnel moves among other things. You're not gonna believe what's in front of you? Even Rex isn't spouting that SB nonsense anymore. Unless there's a seismic change in the philosphy and vision of this CS including the HC of the NYJ's, 2011 will be a lost season. Without a better plan during the offseason, the future of this franchise is in question to say the least.
we have been in situations like this before under Rex and we have prevailed. All we need is a win this week and we're right back in the mix. Dont get so upset here. I drove all the way down to Baltimore to watch this horrific game and even Im not that down on us. The season is a long way from over, and even though we dont realy look that great right now, Im confident that we will get this turned around.
Agreed. Jets have shown good resiliency over the last couple years. Even if Pats win by blowout, Rex will be able to guide this team into the playoffs. Right now the biggest problem is O-Line and the best Center in football is going to join this team either next week or the week after. Not only is Mangold the best player @ his position, he will take over a leadership role when it comes to blocking assignments. Jets O-Line won't dominate but it'll improve enough for the offense to make plays.
You're absolutely right, the team is in trouble atm. You can't count them out this early, but we still have the same problems from day one of the RR era but now add the Oline troubles. There needs to be big changes after the season ends no matter what happens. There is no room for stubbornness in this game at all. Rex and Schotty both seem very stubborn and they need to understand they are not the best and respect their opponents even if it's the Rams. I got annoyed with Joe Namath's comments but in the end we have lost stupid games the past three years to teams that we shouldn't and beat good teams, which means we respect the good teams and overlook the shitty ones, that has to stop. The lack of in game adjustments shows that the CS doesn't like having their precious game plan countered, especially by an inferior team, which is a huge problem. Rex can keep talking shit about how awesome they are, that's fine with me, I like it. Just don't actually walk onto the field thinking it, there is a reason the phrase "Any given Sunday" exists.
Totally agree, although perhaps "seismic change" is a bit of an overstatement. But the trend is not good.
I blame Tannenbaum for pandering to Rex Ryan during the off-season. While we were busy trying to make the best unit on the team (our cornerback corps) even better, we took big hits on the side of the ball that needed more help. I think every Jets fan now realizes how good Damien Woody was- I think he was the best right tackle in football last year before the injury. The biggest problem with the right tackle is a systemic one- the FO can't bring itself to admit when they've missed on a roster move. Vlad Ducasse is a miss. Wayne Hunter is a miss. Cut your losses and get a real right tackle. A couple posters here were banging the table that Mark Sanchez was going to take a step back with a brand new receiving corps and they've been proven right. Braylon Edwards was/is a douche, and Jerricho Cotchery might not have been the player he once was, but they KNEW HOW TO HELP OUR YOUNG QUARTERBACK. Their jettisoning was hubris, pure and simple. The most frustrating thing about Nnamdi-mania is that we weren't even trying to add to the defense where we needed it. This franchise has not replaced John Abraham. This franchise has not replaced Kerry Rhodes. Say what you want about their softness, but their contributions are exactly what the 2011 Jets defense is lacking. One thing I don't blame Brian Schottenheimer, Rex Ryan, Mike Tannebaum or Bill Callahan for is our current situation at center. We had Nick Mangold, the best, toughest center in football, and Rob Turner, an excellent back-up. Luck's a bitch, bad luck's a cunt.
The point about the FO not admitting mistakes and cutting losses is a pattern going back to how they mishandled the Pete Kendall situation. I agree, and if I were Woody I would have a serious talk with Tanny about this. It should not be acceptable. My quibble with your last paragraph is the problem is really not so much limited to Turner backing up Mangold, as it is that a roster spot is wasted in VD, and that AFTER Turner got hurt, Tanny didn't take adequate measures to replace him.
http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/jets/broken_line_DLZTFKYNIJFpBblCl4WrvN I mean I said all of this and got criticized, no? Then my thread gets closed cause of too good a point. Now let's all read together,,, WOODY RETIRED CAUSE THEY CUT HIS SALARY. ALSO,, BIG QUESTION WITH JETS IS THAT THEY GET RID OF THE TEAM LEADERS.... I mean it's in black and white, no? Yeah, I know,, this guy doesn't know what he's talking about ,,, yeah, I know.
your thread didn't get closed..it got moved to the cesspool where all attention-whoring threads belong. I see you didn't take the hint.
Cesspool for what? Being right? You see how I got blasted for those two opinions, told I didn't know anything. Then the guy writes what i've been saying word for word. What's fair is fair.
Here's the difference. Nobody gives a shit what you think. That was a "Hey, look at me" thread you posted. Nothing more, nothing less. And posting that same link in other threads just reinforces that.
3 step Shotty about time.... That's all you got. You have to play 2 strengths. Where is the sprint pass if the oline is horrible. Don't pull Baxter. Jets got rid of the players with the heart. End of story!!!! I mean this is Jenkins blog..... Read the Jets got rid of players part... I mean I said that, no? Whole thread saying how Jenkins is right on it. Yeah, so was I.
Well at least that last part I agree with. Perhaps you don't remember, but Woody tore his Achilles in January. Do you think he would have had a miraculous recovery to be ready in August and play at the same level? Im sorry you are upset the Jets cut your heroes like Again Ellis (3 tackles this year, not as good as Wilkerson at all), 40 year old Tony Richardson, injured Damien Woody, and 5 touches per game for 14 million dollars Brad Smith.
It's not hey look at me... It's hey,,, thanks for the 1,000 insults putting down my correct opinion and congratulations for being wrong... That's all....
Jenkins seems to agree with me on his twitter... And then the whole site writes how he's making good points.
