Sanchez was the worst starting QB in the league both years we went to the AFC Championship. We won because we had the best offensive line in football and because Rex was incredibly underrated.
O’Brien had 3 winning seasons, all he gave us was sacks and losses. Sanchez gets blamed for way too much that went wrong. He was not perfect, but I would take the memories he gave me versus what O’Brien and Pennington did. Who cares how teams get in? Is this now a box that has to be checked when discussing our QB’s? You say he sucked, you guys sit here posting highlights about some stupid Ken O’Brien and Wesley Walker game but don’t put up any highlights about Sanchez playoff victories. Go back and watch those throws he made in the playoffs, those were not passes that a terrible QB makes. In the mean time we drafted a QB who can’t even make a 5 yard pass, I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before he’s put in front of Sanchez even after he accomplishes nothing.
Rex was not underrated, if anything he was overrated, guys want a HC back who literally helped dismantle a good roster and made it a garbage roster because of his defensive philosophy. Buffalo quickly realized how bad of a HC he was when he turned a number one defensive unit into a mid tier defense, he only lasted 2 years, they couldn’t get rid of him fast enough and team turned it around immediately after firing Rex and hiring McDermott. I don't want to derail thread, this will be my last post on this thread.
I think Mark Sanchez has just outed himself as a member of this board. The stupid people who like Ken O'Brien like him for the fact he put up 25,000 yards as a Jets QB and lots of TD's Remember at the end of the day Marino is a ringless QB, it is always a team game and even the best QB's can not pick up their team and carry them to titles, got to have all parts pulling in the same direction. Sanchez played well in the playoff games but the Jets were in the playoffs because of him, a better QB on that team may very well have brought home the trophy and ended our hurt, then the Jets did him dirty and gave him no chance to succeed after that. As for Wilson, you surely realise there are a lot of naysayers on this site, plenty of cheerleaders as well. He has it all to prove next season, I was certainly disappointed but there are signs but Darnold had those signs as well and right about now I am just hoping he flips the switch in his head and comes good or it will be another long season and quite possibly the end of JD and the plan.
Reality dismantled the roster; not Rex. Tannenbaum spent a ton of money on good older players. Well, what happened? Eventually they got old. You act like Tannebaum wasn't in charge of player personnel. We basically had a three year window and during that window we lost in the AFC Championship game twice. Once we paid Sanchez (instead of trying to upgrade the position), we were in a downward spiral of having to start people like Wayne Hunter, Austin Howard, Kyle Wilson, Stephen Hill, and Jeff Cumberland.
I was exaggerating about Wilson because of the bias against Sanchez on this board. I want Wilson to succeed in the worst way, but I have no problems with Jets moving on from him if they don’t feel he’s the answer. With regards to Sanchez, this board forgets that he was a rookie QB, it’s the way a team is supposed to develop a QB in the NFL, not ask him to carry team but supplement the team. When he was not asked to carry the team he performed well and that’s why he was successful in the playoffs. I don’t want Sanchez to be in HOF, not even in the ring of honor for Jets, but to act like the only good memories we have are the Wesley Walker and O’Brien slug fest with Miami is outrageous to me. By the way, It’s what we are supposed to be doing with Wilson letting team carry him for first couple of seasons and then he can be asked to carry team but Jets need to maintain a talented team around him, not do what they did with Mark, strip team of talent and wanting same results. Also when you look at Chad, Vinny, and Mark, their numbers are very comparable even though Mark only played 4 years as a Jet. Mark has 70 TD, Vinny 77, and Chad 82, yardage is also similar.
Hackenberg. So good, that for parity reasons we were not allowed to give our second round pick any game time or all other teams would of refused to play us.
