I am very happy with how the DBs showed up at the combine. It showed how deep the position is and it would be asinine to take one at #6.
I like some of them but am concerned that they may not fall to their value. Foster's antics at the combine may have dropped him from a bad value at #6 to a better value in the 20s.
As long as we don't take him, I'm happy. His antics show him to be a hot head, and not able to distinguish when to use it and when to stifle it. Passion is a good thing, but unmanageable anger is not.
I really like Marlon Humphrey but I don't see him falling out of the first round with the combine he had. Someone really needs to get video of some of the better prospects smoking pot from a gas mask while partying with underage girls.
Anybody at 6 because that means all trade down scenarios would have failed and failure is not an option here especially with Mac telling the world we are open for business at our spot
Lattimore would be the first name that comes to mind in players that I do not want at #6 (or even in the first round). Jonathan Allen and Solomon Thomas are two more that are about as bad. Trubisky is another. With what happened at the Combine, Foster is another (although I might consider him lower down in the 1st round). Corey Davis is another. Cook (the FSU RB) is another. I don't want McCaffery or Peppers at all. Well, I might take them in the 6th or 7th round, but that would be it.
Just because he tells the world we are open for business doesn't mean that there will be any players at any of the Jets picks that other teams feel like they absolutely have to trade up to get. Even if there is, that doesn't mean the other team will make a fair offer. They may try to take advantage of the Jets. I really don't like that Mac made that comment. It makes him sound desperate and puts him in a worse negotiating position.
What you say is true...no one is forced to do any business with us at any time...however it does not make us vulnerable or desperate imo It just opens a door to reveal what other teams must have among the top 5 or 10 ranked players ( and believe me plenty of teams, lke Philadelphia who need defense or like Chicago and SF who need QBs bad, will not pass on a Watson or a Kizer for example) and then the Jets can weigh the offer to see if its fair On the other hand letting our intentions go public could a) attract more teams that otherwise would not be interested b) send the message that the Jets don't plan on taking a premier top 5 ranked candidate/or QB eg M Garret Kizer Watson Peppers etc or aggressively moving up I would be shocked if the phones are not ringing already
Any QB at 6 is a reach. I'd rather us grab Evans if he drops to the 5th, and use him as depth rather than sign a FA QB. A DB at 6 is also a reach, other than Adams, who I believe is a leader and can ball. There will be CBs to be had in the 3rd round.
I'm of the same opinion with regards to Mac making that comment, he has a phone, call the GMs of other teams and let them know that if the offer is right he might consider trading back. Keep it in house.
Those teams could have called the Jets anyway. You may be right, but I don't see how that encourages more teams to call Mac. If they wanted to take a player badly enough at a pick where the Jets have the pick, they were going to pick up the phone and call him anyway to see if he was willing to deal. Mac didn't have to say beforehand that he was willing to deal. If they had called him, he would have had the edge in negotiations since they were the ones suggesting a trade. With him having practically suggested that he wants to trade down (or at least is willing to), nothing is gained imo, and the negotiating position of strength is lost. If it suggests that the Jets aren't going to take a top 5-rated prospect, why should other teams call Mac to deal? If they don't have to worry about the Jets taking a player they want, they can trade with a team a little lower in the draft and give up less to move up. It totally weakens the Jets' position. One deals from strength in the draft when other teams have no idea what you're going to do. When you announce your intentions, it allows other teams to play accordingly and possibly outmaneuver the Jets. That's why GMs tell lies and don't announce their intentions this time of year. This is the first thing that Mac has done that I think is a totally dumbass move. Maybe he's not as smart as I thought he was.
.this is confusing tbh and you may well be right This morning YOU were defending him while ME and Mainjet had him in the doghouse!! AHAHAHA I had him as a solid B grade considering his entire body of work up until the Fitz deal and now it just seems he pulling a C at best Lets see what happens....
Marshon Lattimore Any QB Any RB Any player from Alabama. Not at #6 overall. If we draft DL Jonathan Allen just because he is available at #6 and he was the BPA on our board, -- I might abandon this team & choose to root for a team that is actually trying to get better.
