None of them are great. The classic, pick your poison.

    With that said...

Cimini is the best. He had actual sources, inside info, first to inform, and is at least credible. A huge dick, but, credible.

Mehta is always making shit up and never has legit sources.

Everyone else is basically just regurgitating what others have already established for the fan.

Amazing that the PodCast/Twitter guys are getting more love than Serby and Mehta combined! :)

Can't stand that guy. Never admits when he's wrong. Acts like anyone who disagrees with him is an idiot, the worst kind of fan.

Ha, what made you bring up Luis? The Jet Press dude. I actually wrote for them years ago, just a few pieces, but he seemed like an odd guy and definitely more just a fan than anything else.

Mehta is the worst. King of the agenda driven, click bait, sensationalism writers......

I can't believe he is still granted access to the team to be honest.

Cimini is as bad as Mehta imo.
They are both snarky narrative trolls.
Still can't believe the druggy comments Cimini made after we drafted K Ellis.

I'd like a beat writer that actually likes covering this team for a change, and one who understands football.
    We are long overdue.

I actually like Cimini, but this is simply not true. Remember that whole fake Twitter account thing he did with another reporter? He was knee deep in high school drama there.

He also constantly has to remind Jet fans of the "butt fumble" or New Englands dominance any chance he can, even when its not necessary.

Mehta and Cimini are fighting for their professional lives.

The Daily News is in deep financial trouble. Not too long ago, they laid off a ton of staffers, including John Harper, the best baseball writer in New York. Just last week, the News laid off its sports editor and eliminated the position. The Daily News without a sports editor? WTF? I'm sure Mehta is auditioning for his next job. As others have noted, the guy has an agenda and sucks up to those who he thinks can help him. Last week, his criticism of Maccagnan on the Trumaine Johnson signing shows that Mehta probably thinks Maccagnan is on thin ice and may be out the door next year. He no longer needs to suck up to him. His recent push for Kingsbury is just as cynical. If Kingsbury got the job, Mehta would probably try to cozy up to him as an instrumental early supporter.

Look at ESPN's local sports coverage. They've cut Cimini's space. He writes far fewer articles than in past years, and a lot of his stuff is limited to one-paragraph blurbs. He's undoubtedly auditioning for his next job, too. He's probably the most knowledgeable of the Jet beat writers, but his snarkiness gets real old. He could be a lot better if he cut the shit. He tries too hard to be clever, and it just doesn't work.

He doesn't do that but his job is dependent on viewers.

I spoke to Rich a few weeks ago, and he is looking to do a Pre-Draft thing with Peter King/Gary Myers. Ira from Staten Island came to the one last year, hope some of you attend if he does it.

BTW, Serby is NOT a beat writer....hasn't been since Richard Todd threw him into the locker. LOL

Neither guys is "audtioning for their next job." They each are OK financially and they have spots lined up if the NYDN goes under (likely) or ESPN lets Cimini go (unlikely, NYC is their flagship).

Rich is a class-act and does his job well.

In fact, ALL these guys do their job and do it well. I read all of them and have met many of them over the years (or emailed or spoken with them). We are lucky to have them.

If you guys want sterile, boring, just-the-facts, no color and no emotion.....read AP/UPI/New York Times updates on the Jets.

    I sure as hell don't.

Except Serby hasn't been a beat writer since the Locker Incident (though he made up with Todd long ago.) Spoke to Richard years ago and he said the whole thing was overblown. But still had issues with Joe Walton that disappointed him.

Serby got my vote just because he followed Paul Zimmerman at The Post when PZ left to join SI.

PZ was to Joe Namath what Dick Young was to Tom Seaver. Larry Merchant was the 1960's/early-1970's version of Serby.

    Good times !
