At this point in time for the New York Jets, Marty Mornhinweg is more valuable. Think about it, if either one were to leave how worse off would the team be as a whole moving forward? Who is more replaceable at this point in time? Smith has potential but this isn't some novice OC paired with the next up incoming version of Joe Montana, losing MM would be a major setback for the jets, especially if Smith were still starting QB (too many new coordinators in a crucial time of development is asking for trouble) Now should Smith be all world and tenured in this league that all changes, but for now we NEED Mornhinweg more than Smith.
From Randy Lange: 2. Ground Assault The Jets have the NFL's No. 1 rushing offense after one week, thanks to the 1-2 punch of Chris Ivory and Chris Johnson that led to 212 yards against the Raiders. The Packers have the next-to-last run defense thanks to Marshawn Lynch and the Seahawks' 207 yards in the Thursday night opener. It doesn't take a rocket surgeon or a brain scientist to figure out what one of our methods of attack on the Pack will be. me: If Shotty was still our OC, Geno would throw 60 passes Sunday. True story.
Even against the elite teams the plan will work. Screens and short slants and curls are very hard to defend unless you're pressing and if you're pressing you risk giving up the deep ball when one of the receivers beats his man. Throw in 52% runs and it's a very tough game plan to defeat. Now if the opponent is scoring beaucoup points, well they're going to win the game most of the time but to do that they have to be able to run successfully and keep their QB out of 2nd and 3rd and long all the time.
Can't understand the logic to this topic? Is either of them going away any time soon? A BIG resounding no..... Unless MM has a heart attack or gets run over by a car.... really , lets talk about Wilson of Seattle and if a meteor hits him from outer space. What is the point? They'll both be here when the season ends.....shheesssh I don't get it..
It's called an internet forum. here...read this....it might help you understand http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_forum
That is correct. Despite the blame sharing yesterday, Marty is a proven talent in a league that has many questionable OC's in it.
Before the game on Sunday I was thinking that it was pretty even between who is more valuable but after the Packer game and thinking back at his first 18 games with us, I think Geno is much more valuable. I like Marty's system but he is just horrible at managing the scenario's within a game. Bucs 2013 - Geno's 1st game he throws the ball 38 times and has 6 rushes. Essentially there were 45 plays that depended on Geno and 22 plays that depended on Powell / Ivory. That lopsidedness almost cost us the game against a really bad Bucs team. Patriots 2013 - Jets hold Brady to the worst game he has had in a decade. We have the ball on the New England 27 at the start of the 4th down 3 points and instead of making sure to get the tie, he has Geno throw the deep pass, and it get's intercepted. Same shit next drive. We were running for about 6 yards per carry that game too. The Pats couldn't stop the run yet Marty insistented on passing and threw the game away. Steelers 2013 - Steelers are 0-4 and reeling badly. 37 plays for Geno. 17 for Ivory / Goodson / Powell. Steelers literally did nothing impressive the entire game, they just let the Jets sit back and lose. Bills 2013 - Geno is obviously struggling badly without Kerley, but we still only ran the ball 20 times, even though we were getting 6 yards per carry. Jets end up getting blown out. Raiders 2014 - Jets have 2nd and goal on the Raiders 3 and runs a designed QB run, which leads to a fumble. Vick was also on the field this play for whatever reason. The game at that point should have been 10-7, and with the TD later on should have been 17-7 at halftime. On top of that there is 8 minutes left in the game and we are leading 13-7 on the Raiders 20. Marty calls a pass and Geno takes a huge loss on the sack, which kept the Raiders in the game. If we just run it up the middle and take our 3 points, it becomes a two score game and with the way our defense was playing, it would have been game over then. All of the shit he messed up during the Packer game isn't something new at all. I'm sorry but any decent Offensive Coordinator with 2 minutes left to go in the 1st half and up by 12 against an Aaron Rodgers who was starting to find his groove, would know to run the clock out, and take your points regardless of whether it was 3 or 7. If we go in to the 3rd quarter up 15, we still win the game even with our secondary getting blasted.
Obviously Marty doesn't trust geno but geno did fix the formation without "the timeout" Marty wanted and scored. 1up Geno.
It just cracks me up how the Rex era has gone. We have Sanchez and Shotty / Sparano trust him WAY more then they should have when he clearly didn't have the mental ability to do what needed to be done during the game. We have Geno and Marty doesn't trust him enough to fix a fucking pre-snap formation, so he calls a timeout, while Geno is fixing it. Geno right now is better then Sanchez ever was for us, yet we treat him like he is still a rookie. It's like the Jets are so afraid of having a QB that might actually be NFL quality that they don't believe it.
Well besides Favre we really never had a "go ahead and do your thing" type QB in a long time. I guess were just playing it safe, but they gotta let the kid grow into his own. I think geno can be a poor mans Aaron Rodgers i felt that way since his college years. Just let that boy ball.
