Our genius fanbase still doesnt understand that we are better than most at getting off the field on 3rd downs.
its not perfect so there is room for improvement. i think we blitz a little too much, i think teams are definitely prepared for it. but we dont have the greatest secondary and guys like calvin pace and david harris are not able to defend tes or rbs. while davis has been phenomenal against the run this year and has gotten a bit better in coverage he is still confused and a few steps slow most of hte time. its a process, rex feels he needs to pressure to get off the field and good qbs can sometimes make plays against 1 on 1 coverage.
Yeah -- 3rd and 15 -- i have heard it for years oh Rex is gonna bring the blitz.. they never get there. Blitz on 2nd and 6...fake a blitz on 3rd and 15...force a hot read throw -- bait them QB into some mistakes.
Relax. The Jets are 14th in the NFL in opp 3rd down conversion. Still above average. Great? No, but hardly something to whine about.
As mentioned, our lack of talent at OLB is what hurts us in this area, particularly with Barnes being out for the year. The D is still plenty good enough to contribute to wins. The offense lacks big playmakers and is being led by a rookie QB who has been streaky. If our offense improves through the year and Geno limits turnovers we won't be complaining about our D not being perfect. This is not the 09 or 10 D, it is good but not smothering good.
Stop cherry picking games. The overall sample suggests that we are above average. It's impossible to be perfect.
It's that our secondary is shit. QB's are completing passes at a very high rate. Average at corner and bad at safety.
Actually we're 28th in the league the last three weeks. This pass defense flat out SUCKS right now. We're playing Tom Brady on Sunday ... I expect it to get worse now that he has some chemistry with his receivers.
You're misquoting me completely. We didn't look good yesterday, but as a WHOLE (a much larger sample size indicative of how the team is ACTUALLY playing) we've been above average. So one of the main points of this thread (and yours as well) is completely misguided and non factual.
We had 8 sacks against Buffalo and they probably think they can keep that pace up..and maybe they should be able to.
If you have any of that stuff you are smoking, save some for me. We have a fine front 4. The rest of the defense is not as good as you are trying to imply. Statistics are for losers. Its the won and loss numbers that are important! But for some excellent play by Geno vs Atlanta and Tampa we would look pretty sad in the won/ loss column! Just win baby!
we had 4 sacks yesterday Don. Still it was the third down blitzes that killed us. Ben is an experienced QB. He used the middle of the field as his personal space. Rex and the blitzes were too predictable.
