I like Barrett. He is physical and showed flashes of dominance under Donnie. His problem was obviously inconsistency... He could flourish under Mangini though. It's a good feeling knowing we have a potential star in Miller playing behind Dyson and Barrett right now.

I don't "like" or "hate" certain players, but I think Barrett is WAY overpaid, and another Boobway error. He gives way too much cushion because he is slow. I posted several times last season that he should be a safety because he is too slow for CB. IMO he should NOT start at CB this year.

if you look at those rankings and try to evaluate talent through that, YOU know nothing about football. Of course Miller would be at the bottom of the list, he had limited back-up role playing time learning a new scheme on a defense that was struggling because of bad coaching. In terms of talent, I agree that law and barrett would be much better than dyson and miller. However, dyson is a VERY solid young corner that is a great #2. Miller can definitely develop into a #1, and barrett was our #1 in 04 and flourished. I'd say we are pretty good in the CB department for now.

Can you really label Barrett a bust? He was a 4th round pick and a very unhyped free agent.

A lot of people seem to think that Justin Miller should be handed the job because he's young and has potential. Age and potential don't mean shit in the NFL. In a league with this kind of parity David Barrett (and Kevin Dyson, who I think is worse than Barrett for that matter) start until Miller or Strait or anybody else proves that they deserve to play more.

There you go with that site again. Is that like your primary source of research? Or just the only one that agrees with you?

He's pushing his site... there's no way he could believe it this much if it weren't his own.

Our Defensive Backfield lies somewhere between servicable and mediocre like about 90% of the teams in the NFL. Putting together an elite D-Backfield is gonna be the result of an superb drafting or paying out some crazy cash.

We can make the playoffs with this D-backfield ...

    FS - Eric Coleman
    SS - Kerry Rhodes
    CB - David Barrett
    CB - Andre Dyson
    NB - Derrick Strait
    DB - Justin Miller

We just need our offense to score more that 3 points/game.

he had 5 piks while playing in 13 games along with 50 tackles and 2 force fumbles..............i have no problem with him and think he should still start, unless justin miller makes a big surge this offseason and shows he can be an elite corner(which by the way might happen). i feel that miller should have to take the job from him tho, not just be given it.

I like him. He played at pro bowl level the second half of '04 after taking a while to get used to the Jets D. He had the eye injury last year and the entire D underachieved so I'll be looking for him to step it up again this year. He's a great tackler and he rarely gets beat (some of you may disagree with that comment but remember that even so called "shut down corners" get beat from time to time.) Barrett rarely gives up the big play but he does give up some passes underneath because of the large cushions. His solid tackling makes up for it though- you almost never see someone catch the ball in front of him and then get by him. I'd really like to see him start- if he plays anywhere near the way he did at the end of 2004, he's too good to be a nickel back.

Some of you people are blind...

Barrett is a good corner.. And with mangini's help he CAN be a stud, barrett has shut down recievers before and is a real good run stuffer...

He showed when he doesn't get burned that he plays the deep ball very well, mangini will minimize barrett getting burned, by playing in mangini's scheme's.

Barrett is fast and has hops...

I like Barrett. I find it hard to dislike any Jet player though. It's like if he's a Jet, then I automatically like him.
Anyways, I agree with many of you that Barrett can be a solid number two. However, I think a lot of you are giving Mangini too much credit and are expecting too much out of him. Let's not forget that Donnie Henderson is quite the defensive backs coach himself, having developed the likes of Ed Reed and Chris McCallister(sp?). I'm not sure that we should be expecting the play of our defensive backs to go up just because we have Mangini now.

Also, Rajensen's site is just ridiculous. I don't even know why he keeps on pluggin it. It only detracts from the little credibility that he has.

I'll echo what most others have said...

For the most part, I think Barrett is solid. You don't need a Pro-Bowler every position...Barrett brings good tackling, good run-support and likes to make plays...The thing is, he plays off WR's too much, that could of been the defense of Donnie for all I know, but that's just me. His speed is alright, he can get burned at times, and at times can look like a speedster...A solid #2 Corner.

I'm a Miller fan so i'd like to see him start over Barrett, but may the best man win the job.

I'm still a big fan of D.Barrett. Lets be honest, just about everyone stunk last year and he was no exception. I expect him to bounce back along with our whole team and surprise alot of people this year.

I also think Barret is best covering a team's bigger/physical wr. Signing dyson, whom i think is less physical but faster, helps in that they compliment each other well.
