Maybe we can convince Goodell to issue us some type of NT-Fusion permit, where we are allowed to put Pouha and Robertson in at NT at the same time. Perhaps with the both of them out there they could equate to one adequate NT.

He is Mid to late, and might be available at the top of the second.

THats my thinking, Pass rushing 3-4 OLB, Okam, and then take a flyer on Shirley in 4 or 5, who just got suspended a second time at Fresno State (he has a little alcohol/maturity problem, but can play...)

We have Ferguson and Mangold. THey LOVE Moore. That leaves two spots, One of which will be filled by Bender, who is raw, but by all accounts a beast.

Considering his size, my guess is he gets Clements spot, that leaves Left guard....

    Are you kidding?

The guy has been taking on double teams for two years.

You put a true NT in between him and Coleman, with a Pass Rushing OLB, on the outside?

    There will be no pocket.

    Are you stoned?

Okam, will be draftable by the Jets, and so will Jason Shirley. Both are 6'5" plus, and over 320.

My sig is talking about my avatar and I made that before we collapsed this year so this isn't applying to the Jets

And we need a helluva lot more than 1 man to turn this despair around

Please show me where I said we had to draft OL in the first round? I said we should draft Oline AND Dline for the first 3 rounds, because those are the two most glaring areas of need on the team. I also predicated that on what we do in free agency. That means I would not care if they went DE or DT/NT in the first round, and Oline 2nd and 3rd (if nothing else for some decent depth).

But the idea you can get any guy "in the supermarket" and plug him into the line and expect great play is ridiculous. That doesn't mean you can't find great lineman in the 7th round or UDFA, but you can also find QBs there too. Anyone who has ever played the game, ran or was a QB behind the Oline, knows how important it is. It is the backbone of the offense, everything falls in behind it. It should not be an afterthought, as was suggested in the post I was replying too.

That is an optimistic view of the Oline. Moore can be upgraded. And they aren't paying him that much, even with the new contract, so I wouldn't be surprised if they made him a backup or cut him completely.

There is potential in Bender, but there is a reason they don't even activate him for games. He is extremely raw, and is a good 2-3 years away from playing, IMO. To me, he is a long term project. So I wouldn't count on him replacing Clement next year, and Clement can't stay another year, not if you want to improve the run game.

Dorsey is Dewayne 2.0 except people like to deny Dewayne is good in a 4-3. his only average year in it was when the NT next to him was James Speedbump Reed.

if you have the cap room, you can sit him his first year - letting play here and there - and then start him his second year, demoting Jones to a #2 back.

Trade down and possibly get a 2009 1st rounder, use the pick to draft Quentin Groves. Or stay put and draft Chris Long.

OK!!! Dorsey Fans.............forget it.........he's a square peg in a round hole in our 3-4 defense.

Chris Long........not even close to a Top 5 Pick.

Anyone wanting to draft a OT with our 1st rd pick (Because we are heading for a top 5 pick) is nuts. You don't draft a RT with such a high pick.

Trading out of the Top 5 is our very best option and picking up a 2nd rd pick and some more later picks........draft Oher or Derrick Harvey (IMO, Harvey is a Seymour clone) in the mid teens would be ideal.

If we stay in the Top 5....our picks will be limited and there is going to be some unhappy Jet fans. I love McFadden, but will Mangini spend big money on a RB???, when TJ is fetching 20Mill. I Think McFadden will be Next year's Peterson......these kind of Franchise RBs don't come around very often. As much as I like TJ, he's not an Elite back.....like LT & AP....McFadden has all the ability to become that elite player in the NFL. I'm not saying McFadden should be the Slam dunk pick, but he has to be strongly considered.

A player that people aren't mentioning is Kenny Phillips. IMO, Phillips is the Best Safety to come out in a decade....even better than his UM alum....Reed and Taylor. Phillips will be a Top 5 pick and would be a nice tandem with Rhodes. Phillips can cover deep and support the run and hit's hard. I'm tired of missed tackles and alligator arms of Coleman and Smith. Phillips would really improve our run defense, his only weakness, is he's not a great Blitzing Safety, but that is more of the product of UM's defense. Eric Smith may become a good Safety, but isn't in the same class as Phillips. The Safety positon will probably piss off a lot of Jet Fans with a Rd 1 selection.....but Phillips is worth the investment. Revis, Rhodes & Phillips is 3/4s of an awesome secondary.
I was just throwing out some options for Jet Fans to consider. Too many people are saying..."we need O-Line or Dt in Rd 1"......there isn't many OT & DT choices for the Jets in Rd 1, if they continue to pile up losses.

Again, trading down and aquiring more picks is the best way to go

That's why I said maybe. This season is the first signs of being top 5 pick he has shown. It might be the case they would think about moving away from him, I not saying that will be the case though. I'm just saying right now alot of the teams in the bottom five with us have franchise backs already.

Show me were I said we had to sign our holes at OLine off the street??? The percentages are there for undrafted FA's and 3rd-7th round picks on the Offensive line more so then any other position outside of Kickers and Fullbacks. Those percentages aren't there for finding players of Mcfaddens level, or DT's or OLB's in the 4th round to unsigned.

That's were I would go first, even in free agency. I would rather try and sign a linemen first, OLB second, because they are easier to find. I'm not wasting second and third round picks on Olinemen. That's over kill and the areas that can be found is why they really should be an a lesser concern.

Depends on how Clemens performs for rest of year. I would trade pick and draft a couple of offensive lineman. Clemens will need protection and an offense starts with the fatties up front.
