Get a UDFA or a seventh round pick. I’d like someone that gives us hope rather than a well travelled career failure. The unknown is much more fun than the known-to-be-bad.
Those back up games when they play well should not include any against us, especially in the case of Moore, who we make look like Brady everyone lol I was just throwing out a name tbh I am not a fan particularly
McCown's worth to this team far exceeds what he does on the field...I'd love to see him back with the team as a mentor to Sam in some capacity, preferably as a coach. I"d love to see us develop Webb and maybe showcase him in the pre-season , possibly getting something for him in a trade, but we should have a vet to back up Sam. Maybe a guy like McCarron or Gabbert if they're available.
Should he have pumped the breaks a little? As far as Mcown, it’s time to move on from him. guy was bad when he came in last year, let’s get a little younger at the backup position this off-season. Mac can’t just give away money Jets might need to sign players that can actually help the team.
Totally agree here. As a backup last year, McCown couldn't win even one game. Ideally, the Jets need someone who can come in and win a game or two here and there. You can't expect a backup to win the tough games on the schedule, but he should be able to keep the Jets in the hunt for a playoff spot, which I think is a real possibility this year, by beating the weaker teams. Not sure who the answer is, but it's not likely you'll find him in this year's draft. Maybe someone like Blaine Gabbert. He has experience and has won NFL games. Blake Bortles or Sam Bradford might be others.
McCown wasn't here last year to play, he was here to teach and he did a great job of that. Don't be surprised if his next job isn't as a QB coach..for starters.
Totally disagree. No backup is there to teach. You have to be ready to play. If his job was to teach, he should have been hired as a coach.
And I wouldn't mind Bortles as a backup either. He hasn't been a good starting QB but the point is we're not going to want him to see a lot of action anyway. He's a former first round pick...he's had some success in the league. I'd have more faith in him than some total scrap heap guy Maybe Webb can step up. Who knows
Sure, he can be a backup, which must be his primary focus, not teaching. If he's there to teach, then I don't want him. And as a backup, he has to be able to win a game or two which he couldn't do last year, so I don't want him for that reason as well.
that's fair. I mean last year was a lost season but if he's our backup again this year and we're a desperate 6-6 with Sam out...he's got to step in and be fully prepared and equipped to win a game. At his age...who knows if he will be.
I'd be most interested in bringing in AJ McCarron or Brock Osweiler for a look. McCarron's done well as a backup, doing more than enough to beat Pittsburgh in a playoff game a couple years ago, and Osweiler had some success under Gase last year in relief of Tannehill.
Would Bortles be willing to sign a reasonable contract? With all his experience, he might want big money. I doubt he's ready to give up on being a starter, either. He may well think that in a different system with a better OC/HC/QB Coach he can be a successful starting QB.
