lol ok you are clueless or trolling if you think that. Sanchez didn't last two quarters last season when called upon. McCown is not a bad option at all for this team.
Just depends what you mean. As a back-up QB, who could potentially be on the field, he is horrendous. He was unwatchable last year. He is 40 years old. Not a good option at all. If you mean to be Sam's cheerleader and give him advice, plus be a good locker room guy, maybe he is an okay option. If I had to pick, I would go with AJ McCarron, Blake Bortles, Blaine Gabbert or Brock Osweiler. All with starting experience. @101GangGreen101 said Trevor Siemian. He also would be a better option than McCown.
Out of all the guys you named, the only guy I'd consider is Siemian. But is Siemian better for Darnold's dev? McCown wasn't good in the 3 games last year, but neither was Darnold nor the rest of the team during their worst stretch. In 2017 I thought he played well with such a shitty supporting cast. And the 40 thing is way overblown as many QB's have shown as of late. Only good QB option I can think of is Keenum, but he will cost too much.
McCown had his glory season. Time for him to be put out to pasture. Bums like him hang around longer than they should.
It's not overblown since he was literally awful last year. Agreed McCown played better than anyone could have expected in 2017. You do bring up a good point: Sam's development. I am not sure if that is the back-up QB's job anymore. Last year it was, and I think McCown did a good job. This year should be about getting a solid back-up QB who, if forced into action, can do a decent job. I think there are better options than McCown.
Osweiler sucks! I wouldn't take him if he paid the Jets $20 million a year. He would be a wasted roster spot imo.
I can't imagine there being ANY controversy. Sam is our QB. Period. No backup we sign is going to threaten him for the starting job. He will know that he's the backup and if Sam gets hurt and misses some time, he'll only play until Sam is healthy. I don't think Sam will get unnerved.
Bortles would probably be too expensive and probably still wants to start. Gabbert and Osweiler suck. I could be wrong, but don't think Sam could learn a darn thing from either of them. McCarron is the only one I'd sign from that list. I'd rather go with Webb than bring in any other of those guys. I also like Siemian. If Matt Moore was available, he would be a good choice, too.
Well, I guess "sucks" can be a relative term. I respectfully disagree that most backups suck. Just because they don't posses the talent to be starters doesn't mean that they suck. They may be solid game managers but not have the arm to make all the throws, may have limited mobility, or conversely may have good arms but have trouble reading Ds. They can be pretty good for short stretches or a game or two, but just don't have the talent or consistency to be starters. McCarron to date is a career backup. I don't think he sucks, he just isn't good enough to be a starter, but can be a guy who can play solidly for a game or two. The same thing with Matt Moore and some others. I think Siemian falls into that category too. He doesn't suck, he's just not good enough to be a full time starter. Maybe I was too harsh with Osweiler. As a backup, he may be just fine, but he isn't a starting caliber QB, and I've never seen him play well.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA What a great way to bless your future career as the New York Jets starting QB.
