I was 13 and watched it with my dad, my uncle and I think a cousin or two. Kinda fuzzy but I watched it on our brand new 27" Sony Color TV! I even got to sit close to it as they figured out the radiation thingy by 1969...
Okay. Let me be heard by entire board. The folks who saw Jets winning SB 3 are the Royalty of this board and they shall never be disrespected. Or else. Lol.
To those who watched with their dads: was it a generational thing in your house? The NFL was our dads' league, with crewcuts and four yards and a cloud of dust. The AFL, however, was ours, with longer hair and guys like Namath,Lamonica and Hadl slinging the ball all over the field. It was so much more fun to watch than the NFL. It was the way we all tried to do it on the playground. In Super Bowl III, a lot of the fathers were rooting for the Colts but us kids and teenagers were pulling for the Jets. When the Jets won, it was vindication of us and our generation.
Also, just a couple of years later when I got my season tickets at Shea you could still see a few NFL throwback type of fan who would wear a suit, tie, hat and overcoat while the new generation fan wore jeans, hoodies and parkas. Wearing jerseys was still not a part of the wardrobe and I don't think wearing outlandish costumes was even a factor yet in Oakland. Call me a geezer but I still don't understand the facepaint and elaborate costumes big in some places.
I tuned in looking for Heidi and was pissed off something else was playing. Seriously, 1968 was the last year I paid no attention to sports on TV. The Mets hooked me the next year and by 1970 I was watching Mets, Jets and Knicks, followed by Rangers in 1971.
I was 11 at the time, and had to pursuade my parents to let me watch. I have seen the videos and DVD of the game so many times since, that I have to admit that sometimes I'm not sure what I remember from my first viewing, and what I remember from re-watching it over the years. I'm old.
I was in a house full of family and friends of my parents. All the men watching the game in the family room, wives in the kitchen. Remember the season pretty well to, was the first time I really started paying attention to the game. My father loved Namath and the Jets as much as he hated the Giants. I remember my father punching the table as Snell scored. Everyone was jumping around at the end and we were sure that there would be many more celebrations coming...
Coaxial cable was still a few years off for common folks so yeah, we had bunny ears and tin foil for better reception. Cable TV was in its infancy and being opposed by the major Networks.
You'd be surprised how many B/W TV's were still in operation in 1969. Primitive by today's standards but its all we had and was damn glad we had them.
For those that do not know a 27" Color TV in 1969, it like the equivalent of a Hi Def home theater set up with Dolby surround sound in today's world. Cman was living large. My folks watched the game, claim I did too - but I was way too young to remember. We lived within walking distance to Shea back then - or at least what was considered walking distance in those days. First one I actually remember watching was the Dolphins and Garo Yepremian,
15 and a Soph in High School watching the game in Black and Whilte on our new TV with Bunny Ears set up in the upstairs den..Already a big fan ..I was nervous as a cat squirming in my seat and screaming yay when the Jets were scoring or getting those intercepts. My Dad came in ..he had complete disgust for "the Pros" because of his love of Ivy Leaguers ("the REAL scholar athletes..." lmao) Brialliant game plan by Weeb executed perfectly by Namath Boozer Snell and don't forget George Sauer..I think Don M more of a decoy that day Anyway have firm remembrance of Namath getting those swing passes out to Boozer or Snell for positive yardage all day long...and finally Victory..index finger in air ..number ONE..ohwellohwellohwell..
Yep. Black/White TV was the norm. In 1983 I watched a color TV for the first time in my life. I still can't forget that day. You guys had it fancy here in the USA. Up until 1989 there was only 1 TV channel in entire Turkey. Just 1 channel and that channel was a government channel. Private TV's started in 1991 in Turkey.
Yep. Missed those bunny ears. Our home in Turkey was only 60 miles from Syria border and we would catch Syrian TV with big bunny ears. Good old days.
STILL in operation? LOL The first color TV in my house happened in the late 70's. My mother thought they emitted dangerous radiation.
