If they could get a surgeon to transplant his fingers to his forearms and chest he would be the best wr in the league
Those stats are all well and good but Stephen Hill didn't have anywhere near the amount of receptions and targets as those other guys on your list...
True ... Read my previous post ... I guess we can say the same thing about Tavon Austin ... Lets see of he brings his drop rate down to 1.7 in his 2nd year. I mean really .... Yikes. You ppl should research facts before poisoning the readers of the board with lies and misconceptions. Just sayin .... Lazy analysis. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Interesting ... He only had 47 targets in 2012 .... So I guess with 20% more targets he still improved from 10.6 to 1.7. Pretty damn good. Won't be hearing me making misinformed jokes about his hands .... Oh and Tavon Austin had 69 targets .... 10.1 drop rate. Guess he can't play WR either after one year huh? He should be relegated to kick and punt return duties if u were a scout huh?, Im not picking on u ... I've made some pretty stupid comments / projections on players too. We are all pretty stupid at sometimes and should do research before making comments as such. Especially a guy who is still only 22 years old entering his 3rd year and having shown significant improvement in his one area of major weakness. I'm sure his route running will get better too. I prefer OBJ anyway but you are totally incorrect that Cooks can't run good routes. His main knock is his size, and you are right many rookie WR's don't produce immediately but if Cooks doesn't, it's not because of his route running.
Thank you ... I will research the route running critique I heard some more ... You might be right, it could be totally bogus wouldn't be the first time. I'm just not that impressed with Cooks. And the kiss of death is that all the fans love him and that is a foolish red flag for me as a guy not projected to be a top 5-10 pick. Too many Reggie Williams flashbacks lol ... For those of u who were on jets boards back in the day lol. And I saw his highlights .... And I'm not blown away. Tavon Austins highlight reel put me in a daze they were so damn good and impressive .... Lets hope he pulls a Stephen hill and brings that 10.1 drop rate way down .... Or lets not hope, not like he's a Jet lol Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
The problem is that you are looking at stats over game tape. While Hill may have improved his stats, there is no doubt he catches with his body over his hands. This is a no-no because it increases the chance of drops. You also have to call into question how the drops happened, were they truly easy catches or a bit of a wild throw? The other major knock on Hill is that he is not at all good at using his routes and body to gain separation on a DB. You just have to look at the game tape to see that.
At 6'4" and 4.37 speed Hill should be a nightmare to cover. Instead he disappears for long stretches of time despite the defense not really paying special attention to him. It's not all about being big and fast. It's about being a good WR and so far in his career Hill has not approached that level of play.
Tavon has more speed but is even smaller than Cooks. In college his speed made guys look silly, especially playing at WV, Cooks has around 4.3 speed which is excellent for a WR, and I really like what he does down the field. My main concern with him is getting off press coverage successfully in order to preform the timing routes of a WCO. My secondary concern with him is that he won't be able to offer a whole lot in blocking for the run game. Any other issues I see with him I think will be tightened up with a season in the league, like his penchant for running backwards.
100% agree, so much potential in Hill, hopefully he turns it around this year and contributes early... if not he may not be around long.
All you need to do is watch Stephen Hill in a game to know why he's a joke. I'm shocked a whole page was dedicated to actually arguing about Hill. Although he actually makes good practice squad material for the Jets DB's. Next... Back to the topic at hand, Cooks is the safest of these 3. Lee has injury and other question marks, I'm always wary about overhyped SC players. Beckham fits the mold great like Cooks does but Cooks' college production makes me lean towards him still.
True in the QB sense but high profile SC skill guys in general scare me. Mike Williams, Dwayne Jarrett, took Bush a few years to get going, McKnight, on and on. I like Lee but I just like Cooks a bit more. Lee is more boom or bust to me with high upside. Cooks seems solid, steady with high upside.
I think he's underachieved so I won't argue with you there. But I do think defenses give him more respect than people acknowledge on this board. I've gone to several home games when defenses constantly had a safety over the top shadowing him. Maybe it's a case of his bark is worse than his bite..but nonetheless he DOES take some pressure off the other receivers.
I like all 3 players so It's really a hard decision. That said, I'm gonna go w/ Lee. This is a guy with some of the smoothest movement skills we've seen at WR in a long,LONG time. He runs every single route, gets behind defenses w/ ease & beats every type of defense you can throw at him. Yeah maybe he was alittle banged up this past year. Much of that can be attributed to defenses concentrating solely on him & trying to rough him up a bit. You can't deny the production despite a lack of a surrounding cast & some pretty formidable opponents. Movement skills+Production w/ little help around him=Winning formula It wouldn't surprie me one bit if he turns out to be a better pro than say Mike Evans.
If there are 3 first round receivers sitting there at 18, I'd keep trading down until there was only 1. Imagine picking up an extra 2nd and 3rd round pick only to be 'stuck' with Cooks at 24. Plus we'd be paying him a couple hundred thousand dollars per year less hahahaha. Now that right there's a GM with stones in his shorts.
