This draft is not weak overall, but it's weak on QBs. Usually you would have a few guys who are top QB prospects, and that makes these trades possible, it also allows for better players in other positions to slide. Let's see though, after combines, Pro days, etc, maybe a couple of QBs make their way into top 10. I hope at least one! Then maybe we can get a decent value in trade down. Last year Philly traded up two spots (using Miami pick btw) from 12 to 10 to get Devonta Smith, and it cost them mid second rounder. Earlier they traded down from 6th to 12th, and got Miami's first round pick the following year and some change. Bears traded up from 20th to 11th and gave up first round pick the following year plus 4th and 5th. I think if we trade, our best bet is to trade out of 4th a few spots down maybe to 8 or 9 or 11, maybe pick up extra 1st in the process and something smaller for this year. From 10th, I would not trade too far down. Then we still get to grab two blue chip players say with 10th and 11th picks, plus have something extra for next year and this year. The good news is that Saleh knows how to evaluate Edge players. Had them in Seattle and SF. If he feels Karlaftis can be elite Edge, there will be no trade down from 4th. As far as Jameson, with him getting ACL torn, he is no longer a blue chip player. In the second round sure, I would take a gamble as it is high reward, but now who knows if comes back 100% of speed and agility, or has a propensity for injury again with his fragile body type, so the risk is higher than that of a blue chip guy. The point is, he is no longer reliable blue chip option, who may not even be productive first year, which means you can gamble with a second rounder and still need another WR in free agency. With Burks I am reasonably sure we will get solid production this year.
I would definitely mind. IMO that's totally the wrong way to go. We need a WR who has a different skillset, not one who is practically a clone of Moore or even very similar. Being smaller the DBs could have the size advantage, and with being shorter/smaller, the catch radiuses and windows are smaller for Zach. I just don't see the point in that. Berrios is also on the short side. If he's just going to draft one WR, I'd rather JD not take a WR at all than take a sub 6-foot WR. The only exception to that would be if he signed Mike Williams in FA to give us that taller WR, and then drafted Dotson or Olave or Wilson, or Wan'Dale Robinson. As I study the WR class more in depth, I may discover other WRs I would be happy with, but right now, if JD is only adding one WR this offseason and that via the draft, that is limited to Burks, and maybe Romeo Doubs and Bell of Purdue.
London is another one to consider. Though given he just broke his ankle, not sure if I would consider for top 10. If he falls though, may be an option. I think ideal scenario would be to get a guy like Mike Williams in free agency, then draft Karlaftis and Linderbaum to improve the trenches and see who falls in the second round.
i chose Burks cause his skillset is one we're sorely lacking, but I really don't think there is a WR who is worthy of a top 10 pick this year. I'd rather wait it out and see which one of these guys falls to round 2. Lot of mid-late first round type of guys and one is bound to get passed on for some reason (like a QB-needy team reaching). Much more open to a WR if we end up trading down
I didn't vote b/c I don't know anything about these guys and I don't know how to evaluate WRs anyway.
Check to see if they possess stone hands, if yes, that is the one the Jets will draft. Check to see if they can run their route, if no, that is the one for us.
His athletic profile doesn’t jump out at you honestly. He’s a GOOD route runner…kinda surprised he’s actually 6’2”…likely a 2nd rounder I’d guess with a shot of late first if he can run a faster time.
so we have this guy here called NC whatever who doesnt even watch Jet games but hes a draft expert???? hahahhaha what a clown show
@Jonathan_Vilma, you mentioned Robinson is not a good option earlier, I could not find the exact post. The question is why? He is coming of a year where we can probably get him for a much smaller price than ever. Maybe a 2 year deal - 13 mil, with 3d team option. We could drop Cole/Crowder, and still get a WR in the draft with either 10th or second rounder. I am thinking it is perfect time to get Robinson in a decent deal and improve the team. Then if Davis continues to suck, we could dump/restructure him next year.
damn that wasn’t nice , he’s still a Jet fan so we should treat him well. Maybe he watches some college football tho or more than he gets to see Jets for purposes of work or something
Add a wr in free agency and red shirt Williams wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. Davis isn’t guaranteed past this year so we really need to add 2 starters by 2023.
nah dude, he reads articles and then spews them out as his own thoughts...."Im still evaluating WRs" hahahah you think hes watching tape bro? hes not nice to anyone so I dont need to be nice to him. Im pretty sure im on ignore anyway so his feelings wont be hurt
Ik he has a shitttty year, but I think he will surprise us and he’s a hard worker. I can see a bounce back from him, he usually didn’t have stone hands in the past and was very good on a Titans team that didn’t pass much. But when they did he made plays. I agree if we can add another WR and resign Braxton plus add better TEs as that’s is the worst position on offense by far we will all be happy
I am fine with it if it makes sense, but last time he did, it turned out to be the WORST outcome. Mims has not turned out, and Davis is bad as well! So would rather get less of a risk player at 10, that would almost certainly be NFL starter, then a few fringe players that turn out to be cut in a couple years!
Robinson is either going to a bad team to price gauge them or taking a discount to go to a winner. Here are some points against him. He’ll be 29 years old entering next year. He has been noticeably upset with his young quarterback (Trubisky) missing him when he was open. He’s barely been on any winning teams. His next contract will likely be his last decent sized pay day (4th contract if you count the franchise tag).
Not just the season he had, his contract isn’t guaranteed past this year. 2023 is an 11m cap hit or 10m cap savings if cut. Time to line up his replacement is this year .
i agree this year was a dud and he proved his mental makeup isn’t good. I would draft a WR in 1/2nd round and sign one in FA because I don’t want Cole back sorry
